While the major news of the week is, of course, the fact that Mark Beaumont is stepping @ CSS
down as Director, there are still other events to share with you. In assembly on Monday Safer Internet Day—
morning, I was delighted to welcome Tallulah Stitchbury to the prefect team. She will be Parent Drop-in
joined by her colleague, Natalia Ramus, when she returns to school. Both girls are fantastic Session
role models for the younger pupils in the school and have impressed staff by their willing-
ness to devote their time to school duties. Safer Internet Day—

We all felt inspired to raise money for Yellow Day which takes place on Friday. Each year, Session
fundraising for St Michael’s Hospice is coordinated by Galina Baxter, who unfailingly man-
ages to bring something fresh and new to the event. We are very excited that she is run- Feb 7 Wed Netball v Bedes Prep: 14:00

Forest School
A bit of Harry Potter wand-making this week. Elder was a bit elusive but we managed to find some
magical pieces. We also made a few new spells.... ‘Trumpify’ apparently turns you into Donald Trump!
Is that empowering or a curse..... we will leave that up to you!
Becket’s trial
On Tuesday 4C class held a trial because
we have been learning about Henry II and
his involvement with Becket’s death. I
was Henry’s defence but the three main
people were Isabella as Henry, James as
Becket and Tom as the 4 knights, it was
hilarious when Esme B put her Judge’s wig
on and Becket’s mitre kept falling off.
Henry Becket and the knight looked
amazing. Afterwards we voted and the
knights were accused of being re-
sponsible for the murder!
In 4J, Eva was the judge, Tom was Henry
II, Teddy was Becket and Yagiz
represented the four kings.
This class decided that Becket was re-
sponsible for his own death.
Digital Makers Club
Participants in Mr. Slattery's Enrichment club have been having fun and really extending their
knowledge in their first two weeks. Children attending are those who love computing and they are
getting experience with some physical devices. We have been lucky enough to have had a 'Fable'
robot on loan from the kind people at Shape Robotics - the robots have been programmed to use
lasers and throw ping pong balls around the class! We have also been making (not just playing) a
'Frustration' game using Microbits, where a steady hand is necessary to avoid touching the wire.

U9A v St Ronan's
A bit of a slow and tentative start saw us concede a goal within seconds of the start. On the back
foot, their confidence was rocked a little and by half time we were four goals down. As in previous
games, however, the girls began to gain a grasp of their roles and started to link together more. The
second half remained 0-0 so much improved.

U8 Hockey v St. Ronan’s:
The U8 Girls A team had a tough game against St.
Ronan’s on Thursday. St. Ronan’s took an early lead
and were 1-3 ahead at half time. Claremont fought
back in the second half and slotted the ball home
early in the second half to make it 2-3.
St. Ronan’s scored again but Claremont responded
brilliantly scoring another two goals in quick suc-
cession to pull it back to 4-4. Unfortunately, St.
Ronan’s scored in the last few minutes of the
match to seal a 4-5 win.
Goals scorers for Claremont were:

Olive D (1)
Jia Jing Y (1
Player of the Match this week was Ava E.
Colts Hockey
The Colts Hockey team played in the Sussex In2 Hockey tournament on Monday. The annual tourna-
ment had been brought forward this year resulting in the boys giving up many of their breaks and
lunchtimes to train.
Our first game was against Bedes and although it was a close run affair we deserved to beat them.
Arjun K was MoM for his ball manipulation in a nil-nil result.
Our second game was against Ardingly. Renowned for Hockey, they have won the tournament con-
vincingly for the last few years. Reuben D was called into action on numerous occasions but stood
tall and made vital saves. At the other end, Charlie W hit the post, and Rufus B almost scored. The
score finished nil-nil. Harvey W was Mom for his close control and excellent vision.
Our final game was against Battle Abbey and we had to beat them by three clear goals to go
through. Javier registered five, one of which was a reverse stick finish from range. Rufus and Louis
L chipped in two more in a dominant team performance. MoM Javier G for his decision making and
directness.
We had qualified for the regionals but with 3 minutes to go in the Bedes Vs Ardingly game we near-
ly won the tournament. Ardingly, however, took one of their many chances and scored to retain the
trophy.
An excellent team performance epitomised by Eddie C-T whose tireless running and dynamism in
defence earned player of the tournament. Next step, the regionals.
U11B Netball v Vinehall
We were evenly matched against Vinehall with both teams creating opportunities to shoot. They scored
three goals but, unfortunately, we were unable to convert our chances.
Player of the Match – Lizzie Simou
U11C v St Ronans
The girls played against two teams this week. Their first match, against the tougher of the two, they
lost and the second they drew 0-0.
POM Tabitha (captain on the day)
U13B Netball v St. Ronan’s:
The U13B’s started well in their game against St. Ronan’s this week. The first two quarters were close-
ly contested with Claremont having a one-goal lead at half time. St. Ronan’s started to dominate in the
third quarter and were four goals ahead going into the final part of the game. Fatigue started to show
and our defence didn’t quite have enough spring to defend the high balls into the VERY tall St. Ronan’s
GA! Final score 8-13.
Player(s) of the Match were Georgia T
(chosen by St. Ronan’s) and Lyra C (chosen by Miss. Hurst ).
U11B Netball v St Ronans
The team supported each other with consistent and fluent passing. The majority of St
Ronan’s attacks were intercepted by tenacious marking. Our shooters were able to
score six goals, with a mixture of long and short range shots. This 6-1 victory was en-
joyable to watch and a great improvement on last week.
Taking on the mantle of captain and voted Player of the Match was Anna I-C.
A well deserved win!
Years 5, 6, 7, & 8 Boys Swimming Gala v Bedes
Claremont 144 - 130 Bedes
First gala of the year saw Bedes Prep come over to our senior school on Monday evening and this turned out
to be a really close and exciting gala. With our Year 5 boys light in numbers we called up Stanley Y from
Year 3 and James S and Ben F from Year 4. They did a superb job in supporting the Year 5 boys. We have a
good group of Year 6 boys swimmers, where we can field 2 strong relay teams and they had a close match
up with Bedes and narrowly out scoring the opposition. Our Year 7 swimmers were dominant once more and
showed how strong they are even with a couple of swimmers missing. They carried on their staggering unde-
feated run. The Year 8s have a welcome addition to the squad in Jack C who swam very well throughout. The
Year 8' have a strong team and when they are fully at the races can match many school in all races. A great
overall performance by all our swimmers and a solid start to the term. Breakdown of the results are as fol-
lows;

This week in DT club we made Magical Mystery
Boxes, personally designed to keep hidden
treasures safe.
Sophia, Freddie and Zara with their gym certificates!
Year 1 showed their appreciation for our beautiful trees by giving them a hug! We also looked
at the different textures of bark and did rubbings to show the patterns.
Reception have been having fun practising our ball skills in PE and matching nu-
meral to quantity in PE. During our Forest School sessions we have been making
the most of the wet weather we’ve been having by jumping in puddles and making
magic muddy potions!
This term’s gymnasts, jumping!
We looked at making 3, 4 or even 5 digit numbers from a card selection- it was quite tricky but
we all survived!
We made beautiful blossom trees from different shades of pink we mixed ourselves.
The All Stars Cricket Club are
having a blast this term!! Lots
of batting and bowling, which
helps to develop hand and eye
coordination, gross motor skills
and good team work!!
Ducklings &
Butterflies
This week the Ducklings have enjoyed free sticking, bubble play and
playdough play with the cutters and rolling pins. The Butterflies have been
making the most of the weather by splashing in puddles in the garden, wel-
lie printing and water play where we made lots of lovely bubbles. We fin-
ished the week by reading a story about splashing in puddles.
Robins
This week in Robins we have been busy making some multi coloured playdough which we all helped to
make and it looks fantastic. We also made some Peppa Pig muddy puddle cakes to take home.
Hedgehogs
The Hedgehogs have been looking at the numbers 1,2 and
3 on the whiteboard. we have enjoyed filling and emptying
bottles in the water play. some of the Hedgehogs have
been busy making new sensory bottles to play with.
Squirrels
This week we have been looking at healthy and unhealthy
food. The children looked at why certain foods are very
good for us, and why others should be limited. The children
all spoke about their favourite healthy food and then
helped prepare snack. We even planted some of our own
vegetables to take care of.
This week Badgers and Foxes have been exploring capacity by using aquabeads developing their
knowledge on mathematical terms such as full and empty. We also learnt how to order items on their
capacity using the terms; full; half full and empty.
We have also really enjoyed learning a new song in French and music 'Frère jJacques' with actions and
also translation into English.
In addition to this, we have also been exploring and developing our spatial awareness by playing running
and listening games. Remembering not to pop our bubble and keeping a safe distance between one an-
other.
We have also been very interested in where we have all been on holiday! A few of our children have
just got back from holiday and have enjoyed discussing where they have visited and trying to find it
on our classroom globe.
