In2Hockey County Tournament

The U13 1st team went over to Eastbourne earlier in the week to compete in a tournament. Unfortunately due
to some schools being on half term there were only
three schools competing on the day.

Claremont 1 - 5 Bedes

In the first game we played a very strong Bedes
team. However it was Claremont that went 1-0 up
after a really well worked short corner routine.
Ned P injecting, with Thomas S stopping the ball
for an in-rushing Sam W to smash the ball through
a body of players. We didn't keep the lead for
long as Bedes pressed and scored a few goals
more! Jasper B played very well in goal to keep the
scores down.

Claremont 4 - 3 Battle Abbey

This was a very end to end game with a lot of
chances created by both sides. We played some
good quick Hockey and in the end we could have
scored a few more. We scored some good goals
through Sam W and Thomas S. In the end we
stood firm and some good tackles and blocks from
Jacob R in defence meant we kept hold of the win. Overall the boys finished 2nd!!

Swimming Gala Years 5, 6, 7,& 8 v Ashford School

Claremont 250 - 278 Ashford School

This was a real monster of a gala. One of the biggest we have held at the school with around 90 swimmers
taking part. All races were 1 length. The swimmers were very patient as there was a bit of a wait between races.
The standard of swimming again on show was extremely high. The races were very close to call on a few
occasions and had to be called a tie. Our Year 6 boys and girls squads both won there relays. As did the Year 7
boys relay team. Over eight groupings the gala was very close in scores. all the swimmers were a huge credit to
the school in the way they performed. A breakdown of the results are as follows;

Year 5 Girls CL ASH
Year 5 Boys 25 40
Year 6 Girls 26 39
Year 6 Boys 35 32
Year 7 Girls 39 26
Year 7 Boys 26 39
Year 8 Girls 38 30
Year 8 Boys 34 34

U13 Hockey

U13 Hockey v Marlborough House

1st VII 3 - 0 Marlborough House 1st VII

Our 1st team had a fantastic game v Marlborough House on Wednesday afternoon. The work rate of all the
players was excellent off the ball. We played with good width from both Henry S and Toby C. We played some
quick Hockey and got into the 'D' at almost every opportunity. Some good intricate play and getting our shots
away early meant we scored 3 really good goals by Sam W (2) and Henry S. Man of the Match - Sam W.

2nd VII 3 - 0 Marlborough House 2nd VII

The 2nds played a really good game against a resolute Marlborough side. Archie W and Xander S both standing
firm to stop any attacks. Ned P played a really good game in the middle and got a good goal for his efforts. Max
G got himself two goals and being a real threat all game.

Man of the Match - Ned P.

Hockey

3rd VII 2 - 1 Marlborough House 3rd VII

Claremont started slowly in the game and went a goal down in the first
30 seconds. However after that the boys played really well. Keeping the
ball in the Marlborough half and regaining possession quickly. Dan M was
strong down the left. Harry M and Killian K worked very well together at
the back. It was a good comeback as Bert B scored both goals with the
second one coming in the last couple of minutes of the game. Man of the
Match Bert B and Killian K.

U11A v Dulwich Prep U10A

This was a really gritty, 'roughty-toughty' game where we had to battle
hard to keep and regain possession of the ball. It wasn't always pretty
netball but it was great to see our girls play with such determination. I
was delighted to see that the defending set plays we have worked on
this week, worked so well. The game was quite low scoring and remained
tied at 2-2 as we went into the final quarter, however, the Claremont
girls grabbed a vital winning goal to clinch a satisfying win.
Won 3-2 (Eve x 3)
POM - Izzy W (voted by St.A) and Eadie (voted by Miss H)

U9A v Dulwich Prep

On a wild and windy 'Storm Doris' day we provided our own whirlwind version of hockey! Slow to start we
eventually got into our stride and began to play some nice hockey at times.
Lost v DPS A 5-0
Won v DPS B 2-0 (Summer and Olivia)
POM - Tess

Netball

U13 v Bethany
We made an excellent start putting the pressure straight on Bethany, lots of pace and movement around the
court and excellent phases of play demonstrated from the previous training session. Amelia C stepped up as a
shooter after only one practice session before the match and was outstanding, Julia M, as always, was a force in
defence and Amba S moved into space well. Player of the match: Tippi W who played both defence and attack
and worked tirelessly until the end. Well done final score Claremont 11 - Bethany 6.

U11B v St Andrew’s
The U11Bs continued their winning run this afternoon, with a resounding 10-0 win over St Andrew's.
Well done girls, a great game, keep up the good work! Miss Taylor

Goals Scored by Amelia B (4), Evie S (4), Anna I-C (2)
Girl of the Game (voted by St. Andrews team) = Evie S (GA)
Most Improved Player (voted by Miss Taylor) = Tarran B-D (GD)

U11C v St Andrew’s
Claremont 3 - 2 St Andrew’s
POM (St Andrew’s vote): Diya B
POM (Miss Compton vote): Saffron A
The girls played an excellent game of Netball. Our target was to play sharp successful passes and we achieved
this throughout the game. We must continue to work on creating space. Top effort from all the girls, well done.
Miss Compton.

Pre-Prep having fun building 3D structures using ice lolly
sticks and Play-Doh.

In Forest School, we have been collecting firewood from new areas of the
forest, ready for the spring time. We looked at the depletion of resources in the woodlands over
the winter and properties of sticks that would make a good fire .... "happy snappy" Not "bendy
Wendy"!

Well done.

Rehearsals took place all last week for our concert, which took place last Friday. Here are some of the photos our intrepid
Pre-Prep teachers took of the children during
rehearsals. I hope to have a lot to show you of the
concert in the next newsletter. If anyone took a
particularly nice picture that they would like included,
please do send it through to me. I can’t promise
anything, but I will try!

Trotting poles this week in a jumping
position!

In Super Science we made a “rain-cloud-in-a- jar” and watched as it “rained”. The weather theme
continued as the children worked in pairs to create rainbow hands from six different pots of
paint. This required good trust and communication between partners.

We made “rhyming soup” in a cauldron to boost our knowledge of real and imaginary rhyming
words and in maths we began to add two numbers together by counting on, using the spotty
ladybird cards.

The children adored meeting the animals which visited on Wednesday. It was wonderful to be
included in a “big school” activity with Reception. We are very grateful to Miss Schofield for
inviting us to join in. Taking part in the “songs which make us happy” concert was lots of fun too.

Excitement was in the air on Wednesday in the Badgers class, awaiting our animal visit. We
discussed and predicted some of the creature we would be seeing and some interesting
suggestions were given! When the time came, all the children were engaged and showed massive
amounts of courage and bravery to handle the animals - much fun was had by all including staff
and parents! To add to this, we have been reflecting on our amazing animal experience, painting
the different creatures we observed.

Alongside this, we have also been exploring the use of magnets and have been 'fishing' for our
favourite letters and sounds. To add to all of this, we also had a successful concert on Friday,
singing all of the songs that made us feel happy! Watch out for the photos in the next
newsletter.

This week the Hedgehogs have been looking at insects. We went on a bug hunt in the garden and
made our own insects out of Play-Doh. We also made lovely butterfly pictures to hang in our
classroom.

This week in Robins, we have been looking at the colour brown. We all went off down to the woods to explore
and collect lots of browns things for our Robins display. We also enjoyed lots of brown sticking with
different materials to go up on the board.

This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have been really busy enjoying the lovely weather, by going for a nature
walk to collect objects for our interest table. Once back in Nursery, we looked at all the objects we had collected
which they used to paint and created a Dinosaur world. The Ducklings have really enjoyed potato play, free
colouring and jelly play this week.

This week we have spoken about people and things that make us happy; we have
painted pictures of what makes us smile and we sang songs that make us happy, in our
concert on Friday. We also had fun playing in our very own park in the classroom.

Squirrels rehearsing for their Concert last Friday.

We would like to use this opportunity to
welcome a new addition to the boarding house,
Feifan (Robert) Yu. We have many exiting
activities planned for this term, including trips
to Bewl Water and bowling. Any day students
that want to join the boarders for activities
should contact Mr. Tony Tayson, the Head of
Boarding - [email protected].

Statement from Feifan Yu

“Greetings,
My name is Robert and I’ve come from China. I’m 15 years old.
I have been honoured to come to Claremont School to study. My hobbies are mainly
sports. I like badminton, basketball, swimming and etc. I have chosen three
subjects at school: economics, business and maths. The courses are excellent and I
love the school environment. I am ready to start my new school life. I am honoured
