The Arts Award participants have been
working tirelessly on making their
portfolios a credit to themselves. All
participants aimed to achieve outstanding
portfolios both to view and to read. They’ve
immersed themselves in the arts. Becoming
arts leaders, leading workshops, as well as participating in many of
the skill share sessions run by their colleagues. Finally last
Wednesday they were able to showcase their work to an Arts Award
expert, trainer and moderator: Ms Philippa Beagley.
Ms Beagley was so impressed with the student’s work and was quoted
to say:
“These are beautiful portfolios that demonstrate individuality,
creativity, reflective learning and the beginnings of
leadership. The young people I spoke to clearly enjoyed
their Art Award experience and communicated their
learning with enthusiasm.”
The Arts Award is a national qualification; students work
is marked, validated and moderated at the same standard
as low grade GCSE level. Trinity Level 1 Award in the Arts,
Known as the Bronze award is the official title that will
appear on the certification which is due to arrive within
six weeks. And I am of course extremely pleased to
announce that all 12 participants passed.
Congratulations Arts Awarders, I look forward to starting
our Silver Award in due course.
Many thanks for all your hard work and enthusiasm.

Woodlands Festival
Olivia, 7B was asked to be involved with ideas for the
kids activities at the Woodlands Festival on the 9, 10,
and 11 June 2017. She had to help brainstorm what they
like to do, as well as put together a playlist for the kids
silent disco. Olivia is very excited and wants to run a
Mufti day after half term to help raise extra money and
awareness of the two charities we’re supporting. It
would be great if a few families from Claremont went
along and supported this very worthwhile cause.

Joseph Patel had very beady eyes last week and
spotted these Slow Worms next to the Prep School
car park. Despite their name and appearance, slow-
worms are neither worms nor snakes, but are in fact
lizards - they're given away by their ability to shed
their tails and blink with their eyelids. This find fits
in very nicely with several Science topics currently
being studied. Year 4, 6 and 8 have all been studying
different areas of Ecology, looking at adaptation of
organisms, habitats and the interdependence between
organisms.
Swimming
In the space of a couple of weeks, we have faced some very strong swimming schools.
First up were the Year 7 & 8s v Battle Abbey. This was an extremely close gala
throughout and a lot of the individual races were shared out amongst the swimmers in
terms of first and second. The highlight of the gala was our Year 8 boys, who have had
a really good season to date and won both their relays once more. The team includes
captain Archie Wright, Sam Webster, Jasper Bowyer and Henry Sheppard. A special
mention to Archie Wright and Tippi Willard who have led their teams really well this
year and Archie, more or less, winning all of his races that he has competed in this
year. The final score was Claremont 126-145 Battle Abbey.
Next up were the Year 5 & 6s v Dulwich Prep and again this was another tough opposition. Our Year 5s have
tried very hard this term and have battled hard. We were missing a few girls’ swimmers and those that swam
had to swim more often at times. Our Year 6s, who are a match for anyone, have come out on top in everyone of
their galas on points. It has been a great effort by all the swimmers this past year. The final score was
Claremont 122-141 Dulwich.
The Years 3, 4, 5, & 6 had their annual gala v Bricklehurst and this was a lot closer than in previous years and
huge credit to Bricklehurst for swimming as well as they did. Again, we were a little short in numbers for our
Year 3 girls, and a massive well done to Lilli Lewis who swam in a lot of races! The results in each age group were
very close and overall it was a very exciting gala! We were slightly stronger when it came to the relays. Again
our Year 6s were very strong throughout and finished both 1st and 2nd in all of their races. Final score
Claremont 193 - 175.
Cricket
U13 cricket v Vinehall
(first game): Claremont 251 - 218 Vinehall
(second game): Claremont 260 - 242 Vinehall
POM: fielder - Cathryn Garner, batter - Amelia Coomber
An absolutely fantastic sporting performance from all the girls. The team spirit, as
always, was on top form resulting in excellent teamwork and good backing up in the
field. Great catches were made by Tippi Willard, Julia Malcom, Amelia Butterworth and Cathryn Garner. Mary
Woodfear organised the team well in the field. Amba Sharma showed great attacking of the ball in the field.
Cathryn Garner and Amelia Butterworth bowled two players out. Lucy Bate's wicket keeping 'Z position' was
awesome. Amelia Coomber hit some cracking shots over the boundary to secure our win in the second game. Top
job girls! Miss Compton.
U11As Kwik Cricket v Vinehall
The U11As had a closely contested match against Vinehall at home this week.
Both teams played well, but Claremont had the edge when it came to bowling and batting. The most prolific
partnership this week were Olivia Cox and Phoebe Mathews scoring 24 runs off two overs when batting. When
they bowled Vinehall only scored 4 runs off their respective overs and Phoebe took two wickets!
Final score: Claremont beat Vinehall 251 runs to 226 runs. A well deserved win. Well done. girls!
Player of the Match: Olivia Cox ( nominated by Vinehall ) and Rosie 1st VII Cricket Team
Burrows ( nominated by Miss Hurst ).
Miss Hurst.
U11 Rounders v Vinehall
We were treated to yet another beautiful, sunny day for our second
match of the season against Vinehall. It was a friendly and exciting
match with some excellent batting and fielding skills on display. Despite
Claremont's best efforts, Vinehall were the overall winners.
Congratulations to Amelia who was voted Player of the Match for her
outstanding all-round performance. A special mention should also go to
Lizzie for her brilliant batting and Hattie for her fantastic fielding.

All Stars cricket - much excitement as
our kits arrived this week! Thanks to Mr

To encourage sensory play and boost language skills, a big tray of strawberry jelly with scoops
and pots was set up on the messy table in Foxes. The children spontaneously commented on how
the colour of the container affected the perceived colour of the jelly, and how the jelly looked,
felt, and smelled.
Our small world tray features the characters from “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” along with
materials to suggest the different terrains. The children have loved ordering these materials
and retelling the story to each other.
We have been encouraging groups of children to build together, using an assortment of
construction toys at the same time. This has resulted in the creation of some amazing, large
structures.
At Forest School, we went on a long adventure to the deep, dark woods. The children ran and ran
and ran. It was gloriously sunny on the field, but refreshingly cool in the shade of the trees.
This week we made use of a large cardboard box. We had many suggestions of what to turn it in
to, suggestions ranging from; A spaceship, a car, a house but in the end we decided to make a
tent. We spilt the class into sections, one end decorated on half of the box with coloured chalks,
felt tips and glitter while the other half decorated their box with different materials. This
provided the children with the chance for some imaginative role play, where we created fires,
toasted marshmallows and ran away from bears! In our maths sessions, we have been pairing
numerals and quantities, by using number wheels and lollipop sticks.
This week the Hedgehogs have taken advantage of the
warm weather. We have been on several adventures to
the fairy trail, stories in the glass house and enjoying
running in the fields. We have talked about healthy
snacks and on Monday we made a small picnic which we
took on our adventure.
This week in Robins, we have been carrying on with our topic of frogs and have enjoyed lots of
sensory play, with the aqua balls, which we kept in water. We pretended this was frog spawn. We
loved watching the aqua balls bounce around in the water. We have also had a lovely, messy, time
playing with the green cornflour play. Later in the week we made tadpoles to carry on from our
frog topic.
This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have had a lovely week in the sunshine. The Butterflies
enjoyed a trip down to the Adventure Playground where they enjoyed exploring and playing in the
tunnels and on the slide.
The Ducklings enjoyed going for a walk down to the fields where they loved watching their siblings
play cricket.
The Butterflies have carried on with their beach theme, by painting their crabs and fish for our
fishing net and using their shells to print patterns with.
A big thank you to all of the Butterflies who have collected shells for us, pleases feel free to keep
on collecting objects you find on the beach, as they will look beautiful on our interest table.
This week we have been looking at healthy eating and where food comes from. We made fruit
smoothies, healthy fruit kebabs and lemon flavoured sensory play dough. We did painting using
apples and had a special treat watching the Badgers, Foxes, Kingfishers and Pre-Prep perform
their play.
