Dear Parent, WEEK 4+5
Our pupils were so lucky to have Colin and Michael Pritchard visit us last May 8 Tues Swimming Gala v 16:30-
week. They vividly recounted their experiences at Claremont during the war and in its Bethany & Cranbrook 17:45
aftermath. We were shown what a week’s rations looked like (Colin and Michael were School - Years 7 & 8 17:00
very impressed that the Claremont cooks managed to be so creative with limited re- 14:00-
sources). Michael spoke movingly about his experience of VE Day. The pupils were Believe in You - 17:00
given a holiday and celebrated by lighting counselling drop-in 14:00-
a bonfire and baking a potato in it. Mi- session 17:00
chael said, “Mine was a bit raw on one 14:15
side, and charred black on the other, but 9 Wed U11 Cricket Festival
I have never, ever tasted such a wonder- 14:30
ful baked potato”. An odd-job man named Claremont U11 Girls
“Cookie” guided the boys (Claremont was Cricket Festival (h) 14:15
a single-sex school at this time) in com-
munity singing around the fire. Cricket v Bede's. 1st XI, 17:15-

Colin and Michael Pritchard also Colts A&B (H) 17:00-
recounted the story of when the Princess 18:00
Elizabeth visited the school (pictured at Girls Cricket v Sutton 10:20-
Claremont). She was on her way to Has- Valence: U13AB (a) on 11:00
tings, but the Mayor wanted her to arrive grass, U12AB (a) on 14:30
in his car and Claremont was chosen as a astro
staging post. Princess Elizabeth enjoyed a 14:15
short tour of the school before continu- 10 Thur 7Al leaving for la 14:30

history come alive with their detailed,
and often poignant, memories of their Saint Omer
time at Claremont.

Their visit came at an opportune U9A, U9B, U8 (H)

London coped with the Blitz. It is going to be a fascinating day which will allow the Abbey - Years 7 & 8
children to gain real insight into life in the capital during World War II.

The Year 4s enjoyed the sunshine during their own trip to Windmill Hill last Dulwich - Years 5 &
week. Challenging themselves and overcoming their fears, it was a thoroughly enjoya- 6

the centre praised our pupils for their willingness and energy – as well as their excel- Wed Year 8 CE French

Swimming Gala Yrs 4, 5, & 6
Claremont 199 - 149 Scared Heart
Our first gala of the term against Sacred Heart and we swam fantastically well. We swam Year 3 swimmers in Year 4
races and Year 4 swimmers up in Year 5 races. We were pretty much stronger in most races but still the races were
competitive throughout. We won the majority of the relays and it was great to see so many of our swimmers doing as
many strokes as possible. The atmosphere was great throughout and all the swimmers handled the occasion really well
having that some from both schools were competing in there very first gala. A breakdown of the results are below:

Swimming Gala - Yrs 7 & 8
Claremont 138 - 138 Dulwich
This was a really exciting gala. We gave a fantastic account of ourselves where we more than competed in every
stroke. We were missing a couple of swimmers and a couple of our Year 7's swam up in the Year 8 races. Our Year 7
boys again carry on this fantastic effort of being undefeated on all relays for the past 3 years! Our Year 7 girls have
displayed a great team bond where they are swimming at a consistency high standard. The Year 8 girls winning both
there relays was another highlight. Finally the Year 8 boys who have some strong swimmers and a couple just have to
realise they have great potential. A breakdown of the scores are below:

Year 1 Forest School—We built structures using sticks and string. Teamwork was very important! It
was lovely being by the lake listening the birds sing!
Ducklings &
Butterflies
This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have enjoyed planting their sunflowers, bulbs and bedding plants. Both
rooms have also been busy vegetable printing and playing with the pasta play with their friends in Robins.
Robins
This week in Robins we have been exploring the colour blue. We have been doing blue car rolling and
sticking of different materials and practising our pencil control with the blue felt tip pens. At circle
time we loved joining in with old McDonald with the puppets. We all joined in with a lot of the actions to
the wheels on the bus and baa black sheep. We have also helped the Butterflies and Ducklings put some
of our new plants into pots for our garden.
Hedgehogs
This week we have been looking at the changing weather. We have enjoyed indoor activities, working
together to build towers and creating art work for the display board. When the weather brightened we
continued the build our towers outside.
Badgers & Foxes
This week we have had fun making finger painting
snail patterns. We did stream splashing in Forest
School and followed animal tracks that we found in
the mud and made obstacle courses outside in the
sunshine.
Squirrels
This week, the children started looking at bugs and have used them for paint printing. They talked
about the different patterns that different bugs made and loved the way the colours mixed together!
The squirrels spent lots of time playing with the small world and building houses with the bricks. We
also enjoyed using the instruments to create different animal sounds; for example, if we were being a
loud lion, we shook our instruments as loud as we could! Finally, the children loved the dressing up…
they pretended to be police people, doctors, nurses and even rock stars!
Kingfishers
This week we have been encouraging the children to be independ-
ent and had a fun afternoon down at the adventure playground.
The children have also been preparing their own food, and cutting
up fruit at snack time. The children have gained a good under-
standing of which foods are healthy and which we should limit.
