The snow made for a challenging week and I am very thankful for our staff’s determina-
tion to get into school under very difficult circumstances. Thank you to you, as parents, Boys' Hockey v St 14:00
for your patience and understanding, as we concentrated our efforts on opening the Ronan's. 3rds, 4ths,
Nursery and Prep School each day last week. Those children who did come into school 5ths 6ths (A)
did enjoy the snow, but also got back into lessons when our staffing (and pupil) levels
were sufficient. Thankfully, we do not often get a snow event of this magnitude and I Boys' Hockey v St 14:00

A huge well done to Year 6 for taking part in the Year of the Dog competition for schools and achieving a masterpiece!
“Thank you for submitting an entry for the Year of the Dog creative competition for primary schools. I am delighted to
announce that your school has been chosen for the project. Congratulations!”.
Creative project outline:
Please create 1) a dog AND 2) a short video (no more than 5 minutes) with your students.
1) A dog: you could make a dog using cardboard, textiles and other materials, draw a poster of a dog or make a col-
lage. They are just examples and we would like you to be as creative as possible! The creating of the dog can in-
volve the use of any medium and/or mixed media.
2) A short video should present the dog your students have made and demonstrate the creative process.
You can view the video over on our Facebook page—https://www.facebook.com/claremontschool/
After playing in the snow watching a film it was very fun!

U13 In2 Hockey Tournament
After a really solid 0-0 result v Marlborough House last week we went into this with great confidence. We were
in a group with 4 other schools with the top 2 schools progressing onto the regionals at Worthing.
1st VII 3 - 0 Battle Abbey
We started off the tournament really well. Attacking and keeping the pressure on the opposition throughout.
We scored good goals from Max G who got his first goals of the season along with Elliot W who scored a great
goal by weaving his way through a couple of players before cracking his shot away at the top of the 'D'. Man of
the match - Elliot W
1st VII 0 - 1 St Andrews
This turned into a frustrating game as we started slowly in this one as St Andrews scored very early on. It was
all Claremont after this as we played some excellent hockey and had several good opportunity's to score but St
Andrews defended well. We had a goal disallowed in the last minute as we worked a good short corner routine
but the ball as adjudged not to have traveled outside the 'D'! Man of the match - Xabder S
1st VII 0 - 2 Bedes
We came up against a very strong Bedes side who in the end finished top of the group. We defended very well
for large parts of the game and kept the opposition at bay with some solid defending by Xander S and Charlie
G. The midfield of Elliot W and Will de W worked tirelessly in the game to track back and getting up to support
the attack. However Bedes scored two late goals to secure the win.
1st VII 3 - 1 Gildredge House
We showed great character to get back in this game after going 1-0 down. We rallied and played some excellent
fast hockey. The best goal was the equalising goal when Ned P reversed hit into the Max G who smashed the
ball home with a sweeping shot. Max G got another goal and Ned P also scored an excellent goal at the end.
The boys finished 3rd in the end and just missed out on the regionals. Well done to all the boys who played re-
ally well throughout.
Sussex ‘In2 Hockey’ U11 Girls Tournament.
On Monday 26th February the Claremont girls’ U11A team travelled to Eastbourne to compete in the
Sussex ‘In2 Hockey’ tournament.
Despite the Arctic conditions, Claremont played some great hockey and finished runners-up. This result
means that these girls have now qualified for the regional finals which will be held at Woking Hockey
Club on Thursday 8th March.
A fantastic achievement, well done, girls!

Ducklings &
Butterflies
This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have had great fun playing with the snow, listening to snow
stories and ice cube play. They have also enjoyed Butterfly printing for our display board in Ducklings.
Robins
This week in Robins we would like to welcome Ryan who has joined us from Butterflies. We also made the
most of the snow and brought some of the snow indoors to play with which we loved playing with as well
as making some lovely winter pictures.
Squirrels & Hedgehogs
This week saw lots of snow, so we have engaged in lots of indoor activities such as dancing, singing
and Mark making. the children enjoyed watching the snow from the window, and we spoke about how
to stay safe outside, and well as keeping warm and cosy in the role play area.
