Mr Nick Rugg and Mr Piers Frazer from the International General Enquiries:
Schools Partnership conducted a question and answer session at the [email protected]
Prep School on Monday. They spoke about their desire to invest in
Claremont, particularly the Prep School site. ISP’s ethos is to “Put o.uk
children’s learning first” and the most important question they al-
ways ask is “Are their children learning?”. Mr Rugg spoke about ex-
change opportunities with our sister schools for both pupils and
staff and answered a range of questions from our parents. If any
parent was unable to attend, please do contact either Giles Perrin
or myself, with any questions that you may have.
Miss Jackson and Miss Rebbeck were excited to announce
that our summer play will be a School’s Production of Little Shop of
Horrors. There will be plenty of scope for pupils to be involved,
both on and off stage, through our Tech Team, set design and pro-
duction and costume design. Rehearsals begin next week.

Goodbye Lorenzo!
Unfortunately we had to say our goodbyes
to Lorenzo Long in 5S on Friday as he will be
moving to the beautiful Sot de Chera in
sunny Spain.
He did a really great presentation to show
his class where he will be living for the next
year, he will be missed very much.
He gave Mrs Stoakley a beautiful red choco-
late shoe as a goodbye gift.
Wishing you the best of luck for your next
adventure Lorenzo!

U9A Hockey v Bedes
The girls get a little bit better every week. Defensively we are much stronger as Sarah and Amelie
are beginning to work well as a team.
Emilia moved up a team this week and did well, making some thoughtful passes.
Goals came courtesy of Isabella and Lilli who followed in their shots really well to get an all im-
portant touch in the ‘D’
Result: Drew 2-2
POM: Amelie (pictured with her ‘game face’ on!)
U8A Girls Hockey v Bedes:
The U8A’s were on fine form this week. It’s great to see these girls progressing every week and thoroughly
enjoying their hockey. They showed great team work and were deserving winners thanks to goals from Ama-
risa G(3), Ava E(2) and Jia Jing Y (1). Well played girls!
Final score: Bedes 2, Claremont 6.
Player of the Match was Amarisa G
U11C v Bricklehurst
The girls were pretty excited at getting to play in the Senior School sportshall this week and were par-
ticularly taken with the viewing gallery! Against an older Y6 Bricklehurst team, the girls competed well.
We lost 8-4 but were delighted to win the final quarter and end on a high.
POM - Tabitha
U11B v Moira House
The U11B netball team played Moira House on a chilly afternoon. In the 1st quarter we were fortunate
to be 1-0 up against the run of play. The 2nd quarter couldn’t have been closer with goals being scored
alternately, finishing 3-3 at half-time. Both teams maintained their focus scoring one goal each in the
3rd quarter. In the final quarter this close fought match, we ran out winners 6-4, our shooters having
the slight edge.
A thrilling match – well done girls!
Player of the Match – Lizzie S
U11 A NETBALL VERSUS SAINT RONAN’S
The U11 A Netball team had an exciting match against Saint Ronan’s this week. Once
again, Claremont demonstrated some excellent movement on court and played well as a
team. Both schools were equally matched, however, crucially, we struggled to get the
ball into our shooting circle which limited our goal scoring opportunities.
A special mention must go to Amelia B who was voted our ‘Player of the Match’, and to
our supportive parents, who could be heard cheering from the side-lines.
U11 A NETBALL VERSUS MOIRA HOUSE
Wow! What a difference a week makes! The U11 A Netball team dominated their
match against Moira House this week, winning by an impressive 14 goals to 2.
Claremont responded positively to all coaching points, worked brilliantly as a team,
timed their movements to perfection and fed the ball into the circle with accuracy
and power.
A special mention must go to Amelia B who was voted our ‘Player of the Match’ for the
second consecutive week. Thank you once again to our supportive parents who trav-
elled to Eastbourne to encourage and praise the girls from the sidelines.
Ms Heidi Smith
U13B Netball v Bedes:
The B’s lost their home game against Bedes this week but battled hard. The girls progressed with each
quarter and showed some good link-up play in the mid-court and even dominated play in the final quar-
ter. Sadly, we failed to put away all our opportunities to score and this made the difference. Final
score: Claremont 6, Bedes 13.
Player of the Match was Lyra Cookson.
U10 Rugby v Rose Hill A & B
Claremont 4 - 5 Rose Hill A
The U10's played there final Rugby matches of the year against a very strong Rose Hill A team. There
was some good tackling but in particular from captain Max W who ripped and rucked consistently well.
We kept to the game plan well, using the speed of Harvey W and Will B and encouraging to worked the
ball down the line to them to run in the channels. Arthur F and Hector W showed good handling and
running with the ball as did Henry S. The boys who had only lost one game in the last 2 years by a single
try led at half time 4-2. Unfortunately Rose Hill where running downhill and ran in 3 tries to pip us at
the end. However the boys kept trying to do the right things throughout. Tries scored by Harvey W (3)
and Max W (1).
Claremont 7 - 1 Rose Hill B
Our second game of the afternoon saw us play Rose Hill B team and we were slightly stronger in this
game and the tries were shared around in this game with Luca R and Henry S scoring their first ever
tries. Harvey W ran over the line another 2 times and Max W scored 3 tries. A solid all round perfor-
mance.
Well done to the boys over the last 2 years for playing some exceptional Rugby and adapting well to
new rules at U10's with confidence. Having been undefeated at U9 and only losing 2 games by a single
try they proved a strong team for any opposition.
Swimming Gala - Years 5, 6, 7 & 8 Girls
Claremont 95 - 114 Moira House
The girls had a really exciting afternoon of swimming against Moira House. Claremont came out on top in the
Butterfly and Medley Relay races, however Moira did likewise in the Freestyle races. So many races were
within an arm’s length of each other that it made for intriguing viewing. Special mention to our U10s of An-
na B, Tess R, Olivia W, Liberty B-M and Amelie F who swam up a group and for Year 4 which won both the
Medley and Freestyle relays. Our U11s were up against a strong Moira House squad however a couple of
highlights was Galina B winning her Butterfly and Ruby C her two length breaststroke. The U12/13s were
combined as Moira House only had one Year 8 girl swimmer but we had the same problem with illness hitting
the squad. However Tallulah S deputised as swim captain and did a superb job. Our Year 7 girls who are
quite a strong group, had Eve S to thank by winning her Butterfly race and Ell F for the breaststroke race.
Well done to all the girls who competed so well. Breakdown of the results are as follows;

Year 2 at Forest School!
Miss Buckingham has been a fabulous
assistant to Reception, we wish her all
the best on her travels and we can’t
wait to hear all about her adventures!
1L talked about Valentine’s Day and made ladybirds to show someone how much we love them this February
14th.
Preston has gained his first gymnastics Well done, Isla, for winning the
badge! Pre Prep quiz!
Over the last week we have grown cress seeds in our classroom. We have observed and recorded how
our cress has grown in our cress diaries. Here are the pictures of our cress. As Valentine's Day ap-
proached we have created our own little love bugs in Year 1. We hope you all enjoyed Valentine's Day
with your loved ones.
Ducklings &
Butterflies
This week the Babies have enjoyed making cheeses straws which tasted delicious. They have also been busy mak-
ing Valentine's cards using lots of pink and white paint and joining in with ice play with the cups and spoons.
The Butterflies have had great fun this week playing in the snow where we made lots of lovely patterns, painting
and sticking to start our Valentine's cards and listening beautifully to a story about a Penguin.
Robins
This week in Robins we have been so busy making some lovely red and yellow pictures to coincide with
Chinese New Year. We made some wonderful mobiles to hang and Chinese lanterns as well. We really en-
joyed watching the snow fall in the week which was so exciting! and we started making Valentine’s cards
for our mummy and daddies.
Hedgehogs
Since Monday brought a scatter of snow, we thought it would be a good time to talk about the dif-
ferent kinds of weather. We discussed the importance of wearing warm clothes in the cold weather.
Some children have made snow and rainy pictures for their books.
Squirrels
This week the Squirrels have been focussing on shapes colours and numbers. We have made
bright coloured shape pictures for our new display board, played the shape match game, and
created our very own number line.
Badgers
This week in Foxes & Badgers we started off the week exploring and playing in the snow! We collected snowballs and
watched them melt we also tried to catch many BIG snowflakes too! But the snow didn't last long so we began to focus
on our theme of the week 'Space'.
We have started to learn that we live on planet Earth and that the stars and moon are still out in the day time but we
just can't see them.
We got to create our very own planets out of balloons and even made our own shaped rockets too.
We have enjoyed walking on the moon and jumping into space in our moon-boots and weighing moon stones too. We have
really extended our learning this week in our physical development; mathematical skills and understanding the world
around us.
We have had so much fun this week! We cannot wait for our rocket race next week!
