National Quiz Club Mathematics Challenge

3 teams of Year 5 and 6 mathematicians visited St Andrew’s in Eastbourne to take part in the National Quiz Club Mathe-
matics Challenge on 23rd May.

Twelve pupils were chosen to represent Claremont. Well done to Eddie, Arjun K, Diya B, Max W, Javier G, Reuben D, Amelia M,
Arthur F, Reuben B, Oscar R, Galina B and Zac B on being selected.
During the challenge,, the Claremont pupils answered some very tricky questions and performed well against teams from Battle
Abbey, Hampton Prep and Ashdown House. The battle was long and hard with one of the Claremont teams emerging as victors.
We are very proud of all 3 teams. The team consisting of Diya, Eddie, Arjun and Max will now go on to the Semi finals at Hampton
Prep School.

U10 v Battle Abbey

With the absence of Mrs Gurney I had the opportunity (and pleasure) of spending time with the U10 team this
week. The progress they have made is really great to see. Most of the girls are now ‘backing up’ well when batting and
sneaking lots of singles and generally making better decisions. This aggressive running can be risky and we lost 4
wickets (which ultimately cost us the match). We looked the better team, however, and these foundations are going
to hold the girls in good stead as they progress through the School.

Dulwich Pre U12 Cricket Festival
Claremont U11s beat Claremont U12s and progressed to the final of the Plate. Good cricket!

Colts A v Rose Hill
Claremont won the toss and decided to bowl first. All season our bowling has been our main strength. The
wickets were shared around as Tom O, Max R, Javier G, Rufus B and Reuben D all got a wicket each. Max R is
demonstrated some excellent fielding to run out a Rose Hill batsmen with the final ball of the innings. They
finished on 75. The message being that 75 was an achievable target to get in 20 overs. We went into bat and
made steady progress. Reuben D scored a couple of fours and Arjun played a couple of nice shots. Unfortu-
nately we just couldn't quite build an innings. We were ran out on three occasions, so our decision making
needs to be better. We lost a couple more wickets and we stayed on 39 runs for about 3 overs. However Os-
car R came in and scored 11 not out and built a good partnership with Rufus B. In the end Harvey W came on
and scored the winning runs with a four in the 19th over to make for an exciting finish. A good performance
by the boys earning them a solid win.

Dulwich Prep Girls’ Cricket Tournament:

The U11s took part in the Dulwich Prep School cricket tournament on Wednesday. Having finished runners-up
in their group they went on to play the Claremont U12 team in the Plate Semi-Final and won by 15 runs.

This meant that the U11s were to meet St. Ronan’s in the Plate Final. There was very little separating these
two teams and Claremont looked to have the edge. Sadly a couple of late wickets made the difference and
St. Ronan’s won 143 runs to 136.

However, a great experience for the U11s who showed great teamwork and dedication. Well played, girls!

U8As Girls’ Cricket v St. Ronan’s:

The U8As are starting to improve as a team and it was great to see the progress they are making with
every match. The strongest batting pair this week were Amarisa and Jia Jing with a total of 24, including
five 4s! The strongest bowling pair this week were Ava and Olive.

Final score: Claremont 250 runs. St. Ronan’s 221 runs. Claremont win by 19 runs.

Player of the Match was Amarisa.

A well deserved win, well done, girls.

Well done to Elizabeth and Frankie, this

Zara is always well mannered and patient
showing respect to others.

Ducklings &

Butterflies

This week the children have loved messy play with the Robins class where they enjoyed making sand pies and playing
with the pasta and bubble play. The babies have also enjoyed hand and foot printing for our display on a fish that could
wish which was great fun and looks amazing. Towards the end of the week both the Duckings and Butterflies went into
the playground to do ball and balancing games.

Robins

This week in Robins we have been exploring the colour pink. We enjoyed pink drawing with felt tip pens,
pink sticking and pink painting. These look lovely displayed in our room. We have had lots of sensory play
including pasta play, water play and sand play this week.

Hedgehogs

This week we have been focusing on dinosaurs! We made dinosaur footprints in the play dough, also mak-
ing prints on the paper. We have been archaeologists and have been digging for dinosaurs in the frozen
ice.

Badgers & Foxes

This week the Badgers have been very busy. The
Badgers showed off their kind and caring side,
when we invited the Kingfishers to one of our For-
est School sessions where they showed them where
the forest boundaries are, and took their hands and
showed them the way. We then read some stories
together. We have also been reinforcing our phon-
ics knowledge by creating our own 'dinosaur world'
and using the lettered dinosaur feet to help. Some
of the children have been noticing the change in the
flowers in our garden and in the environment and
helped water them.

Squirrels

This week the Squirrels have been doing lots of Sports Day practice: running, jumping and throwing
bean bags. We've continued to explore the fairy-tale, ‘Jack and the Bean Stalk’. The Squirrels have
thoroughly enjoyed re-enacting the story through role play; they have been dressing up and playing in
the castle.

Kingfishers

This week Kingfishers have visited the Jubilee Garden and saw how much their vegetables had grown.
We explained about how important it is to weed the vegetable patches to let the vegetables grow, the
Kingfishers then did a great job helping clearing all the weeds up. The Kingfishers also went with Badg-
ers and Foxes to Forest School and read Going on a Bear Hunt in the forest, and had great fun playing
with their new friends.

We also had a Sports Day practice on the sports field with Pre-Prep ready for Sports Day!
