credibly challenging course as runners from over forty schools compete WEEK 11 17:15

to Eleanor Strevens, who came in 7th, and Elliot Wilson, who was our first 22 Wed Girls Hockey v 14:00
boy to cross the finish line. Elliot has recently been appointed Deputy Head Battle Abbey:
Boy, so he has a lot to celebrate! U11A (H)

Last week, we had thirty-seven children sitting our scholarship assesments, Sacred Heart:
so it was a very busy few days in the school. We had both external and inter- U11(H)
nal candidates and were really proud at how our existing children looking af-
ter our visitors and made them feel so welcome. The standards, whether aca- Girls Hockey v 15:15

so pleased to see our Claremont pupils performing so strongly. (H)

There is so much to look forward to in the coming weeks. The Winter Warm- 23 Thur Rugby v 14:15

when I hear the singing in the chapel; our choirs are preparing for the carol Marlborough
service… It is beginning to feel very festive at Claremont. House U9 A&B VI

FOCS, Chair

Children in Need

FOCS are pleased to announce their dona-
tion of £155.78 to Children in Need—
FOCS will make it up to £200.00. The
money was raised during the Dobson Tro-
phy through selling, teas, coffee and cakes. Thank you for your support
during this wonderful event. I also have to thank Mr Chris Catt for allow-
ing us to hold our stall for such a well worth cause.

Edward Marsden put a lot of
time and effort into his

guy. Edward thought of how
to include 1605, a barrel of

gunpowder and matches.
Well done Edward!

Myself and all the committee members would like to thank you for support-

ing our Annual Bonfire Night, it was lovely to see so many of you there. It was an-

other fantastic fireworks display by Wizard Fireworks. The amount of mud most

of the children were covered in tells me they also had a great time! I would like to

take this opportunity to thank my committee for all their hard work and time they

give up to support this wonderful event. I have to say a special thank you to Dan

Brownbill for all his help on the day. It would not have run so smoothly without

him. Next year I will be wrapping George up in bubble wrap a week beforehand to

keep him safe and healthy!

The boarders from Pyke House made great Marshals on the night, we hope to con-
tinue this tradition in future years.

Last week we held our annual cross country event in true cross country conditions. The weather was great but the conditions on the
ground were getting trickier with every race. We had eighteen schools and 400 runners competing on the day. The races ranged from U9
girls up to the U13 boys’ races. The standard of running was exceptional and everyone managed to get round what is deemed the most
exciting race on the cross country circuit. Taking in fields, through the woods and around our scenic lake, it was certainly a challenge for
the most determined runner. With around 65 runners in each race there were some fantastic performances from Will Staley, 13th in
the U9 boys’ race, Orlando Soucek 17th in the U11 boys’ race and Artem S 11th, Elliot Wilson 14th, Ellison V-R 15th. In the girls’ races
the U9's - Lili Lewis came 18th, Dora Glass 19th. In the U11 girls’ races Olivia Wilson came in 22nd with Rosie Burrows finishing in 24th.
The stand out performance of the day, however, was from Eleanor Strevens, who came 1st out of 64 girls racing. Our U13 boys finished
3rd place overall in the team event. Well done to all the runners who competed on the day and made it another memorable event. Thank
you to all the staff for helping on the day. Also big thanks to the FOC, who helped raise a fantastic £160 from the afternoon, selling
teas & coffees.

U11A’s Hockey V Marlborough House

Wow! What a comeback from the U11A’s at home to Marlborough House this week. Having gone 0-2 down at half
time they fought back to win 3-2! Claremont produced some great hockey in the second half and showed great
team work and determination. Amelia Barrett pulled it back to 1-2 with a great solo effort from the top of the
D before Emma Patel finished off a well-executed short-corner routine to make it 2-2. Emma then scored her
second of the game to clinch victory in the last minute of the game. Well played girls, you were deserving win-
ners! #proudteacher

Player of the Match—Lili Rose Hancock

U11C’s v Marlborough House

The U11C’s have made good progress in recent weeks. They are starting to link up better and their positioning
has improved. Their target is to attack with greater speed and to work on their decision making. Liberty Brans-
byMiles was a deserving ‘player of the match’, defending well and producing a couple of through balls to our for-
wards. Final score: 0-3 to Marlborough House

1st VII Hockey v Marlborough House

For the second week running we dominated in attack and yet
failed to do our basics in defence which led to our conceding
goals! It is such a shame as the result did not reflect the
game.

U11B Hockey

The U11B team had a great match against Marlborough
House School, winning 5-3. They displayed some excel-
lent skills in attack and defence, working hard to imple-
ment everything we had discussed and practised during
the warm-up. Their target for next week is to create
more space in attack so they do not accidentally tackle
their own players in their determined efforts to gain
possession of the ball! The girls played well as a team,
but special mentions must go to Fife who scored an im-
pressive hat-trick and to Olivia who was voted our
‘Player of the Match’.

Claremont U9&8 Netball Festival

In previous years we have suffered with poor
weather but today we were blessed and managed to
play some great Netball over the course of the af-

which we played at break time!

Year 1 made scientific observations using ice cubes today.
We noticed changes by adding salt, food colouring and
placing some in the warm sun. Well done Year 1!

Arrival of Sir Mo!

Two little teeth fell out this Monday! We
are feeling rather gummy in 1L today!!

This week in foxes we have focused on our new fairy tale story - Jack and the Bean-
stalk.
The foxes have really enjoyed reading this story; re-enacting this tale and creating
different props for their play too.
On Monday Foxes and Badgers went on a beanstalk hunt in the jubilee garden - All the
children were looking for tall and green plants which could possibly hold a giant and a
castle. We didn't find a beanstalk but we found plants that looked similar.
On Tuesday Foxes enjoyed creating their very own golden egg which the giant hen had
laid for them in the castle!
On Wednesday our lovely Foxes really enjoyed exploring the forest with Mrs Exley.
We even got to create a safe fire by collecting leaves and logs with Paul and Mrs
Exley.
On Thursday the Foxes loved the idea of re-enacting the tale of 'Jack and the bean-
stalk' using our castle; magic beans and eggs!
And on Friday we enjoyed finishing off the week with a role play of the tale and using
all the props we made throughout the week!
FEE FII FOO THUM!!

The Badgers have thoroughly enjoyed focusing on the story 'Jack and The Beanstalk'
throughout the week. We started off the week by taking a trip to the Jubilee Garden
on a cold morning for some inspiration of what a beanstalk may look like, the children
came out with some wonderful vocabulary, this soon turned into a minibeast hunt! Later
in the week, we created our own castles, categorised different , beans discovering their
shape and size, we cut out and then ordered beanstalks by their height and even creat-
ed our own class giant! However, I asked the class what they enjoyed most and they all
agreed with the 'golden biscuit making!'

This week the Hedgehogs have continued to look at
problems. We got our wellie boots on and warm winter
coats and went for a walk to the Head teachers lawn to
find leaves to make leaf kebabs. We counted
the leaves as we added them to our sticks.

This week in Robins we have started making some lovely
blue and white pictures with lots of glitter for our winter
wonderland display. We also made full use of all the
beautiful autumn coloured leaves in the garden. We loved
throwing them up in the air and putting them into a variety
pots and pans.

This week the Ducklings have enjoyed sensory play using the sand, jelly and lots of
lovely paint. They babies have also enjoyed painting their Ducks for their birthday

board.
The Butterflies have carried on with their fireworks theme by chalking and colouring to

make fireworks, sensory play using different fabrics and materials and colours.
The children have also loved playing outside with the leaves in the garden with their

friends in Robins.

This week the squirrels have
been talking about trains they
have created tracks and train

stations with boxes and we
have looked at the different

sounds trains make.
We have also started creating
the winter grotto in the role play area with stars
snowflakes and a grotto for Father Christmas.
