Forest School

Last week Year 3 Forest Schoolers we’re looking after the birds and this week we moved onto the
care of small mammals, reptiles and insects with the construction of a rather grand big hotel aka
‘Bugingham Palace’

As you can see it didn’t take long for a rather ‘speedy’ snail to see its potential and become its first
resident.

Environmental Geography

Paper bags versus plastic bags
Year 4 have been investigating the dangers of pollution to our environment. Well done
for the best designed paper bag, with a suitable environmental message:

Sarah and Lilli 4C, Cosmo and Summer 4J

Pupils in Year 6 have been investigating the coral reef biome and the impact of human activities on this
special place.

Pupils have been absorbed in creating models using collage, artificial aquarium fish and plants, sand, shells
and other craft materials to make an array of colourful replica reefs found all around the world. Most of

the models were on display during our recent open day and our visitors were very impressed with the
amount of research undertaken by individuals and the realistic detail of the models.

Pupils have been tasked with finding out how we can protect the reefs for future generations.
Mrs Francis was very pleased with the hard work shown by all pupils who took part.

U9/8B v Beechwood Sacred Heart

A lovely little afternoon of hockey with this bunch.
We fielded two teams against Beechwood playing 2 quarters each. We were 2-0 down after the first
period. Our 2nd team came on and secured a 3-2 lead at half time. The third period saw us increase
our lead by one more goal and finished the last quarter with 3 more goals.

South Regional U11 Girls’ In2 Hockey Finals:

The U11 Girls’ competed in the South Regional finals in Woking on Thursday having qualified as runners-
up in the Sussex finals last week. The girls played with confidence and worked well as a team. All but two
games were very closely contested. It was a great experience for all the girls involved and they thor-
oughly enjoyed the day.

These girls have had a fantastic season and I am extremely impressed with their commitment, progress
and passion for the game. I’m sure that they will continue to go from strength to strength.

The results were as follows:

V St. Piran’s: Drew 0-0 ( we hit the post )

V London 1: Lost 5-0

V Chandlings: Lost 1-0

V Surrey 2: Lost 5-0

V Durlston Court: Lost 1-0

V Thomas’ Fulham: Won 1-0 ( Emma P)

U13 B Netball v Battle Abbey:

The U13B team produced some of their best netball this term against Battle Abbey. They linked well as
a team and created space well. Our shooters worked very well together in the circle and finally found
some form; Georgia T couldn’t miss!

Final score: Battle Abbey 2, Claremont 25.

Player of the Match was Amelie S-B.

U11 A NETBALL VERSUS THE SACRED HEART
The U11 A team had a closely contested match against The Sacred Heart School this week which ended 3-3.
They took a while to settle into the game due to the angle of the court, but they were soon displaying their
excellent team work despite missing two key players. Olivia W and Lizzie S were promoted to the A team in and
should be proud of their contributions. The girls’ tactical awareness improves every week and they should be
encouraged greatly by their progress, both as a team and individual players.
A special mention must go to Emma P who was voted our ‘Player of the Match’ for the third time this season.
Ms Heidi Smith

U9 A NETBALL VERSUS BEDE’S PREP
The U9s match versus Bede’s Prep was filled with smiles and laughter. Our girls seemed to enjoy every minute
of the game and were very excited to win 4-2. I was particularly impressed with their level of play considering
this is their hockey term. Every member of the team played their own part in securing the win, but a special
mention must go to Lilli L who was voted our ‘Player of the Match’.
Thank you once again to our supportive parents who travelled to Eastbourne to encourage and praise the girls
from the sidelines.

Max Wilson has worked extremely hard on home-
work over the weekend!
Dear Parent,
On Wednesday 21st Claremont is opening its doors at 2.30 for the grandparents of our Squirrel,
Badger, Fox and Pre-Prep children.
We will have a variety of activities in our O'Byrne Theatre that grandparents can complete with
their grandchild.
It is vital that we know if grandparents are attending and if you are happy for your child to be
taken into the O'Byrne to spend time on the activities with their grandparent. If you wish your
grandparent to take your child home you must ensure your form tutor/room leader or we will not
be able to facilitate this without specific permission.
I look forward to an afternoon full of craft and fun activities next Wednesday. If you have any
questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Laura Flanigan

Musical Theatre club this week focused on set design. They had to think about the size re-
straints that occur in the theatre, and base it around the song we have been working on; ‘In My
Treehouse’ from the musical ‘The Most Epic Birthday Party Ever’.

World Book Day!

1D enjoyed celebrating World Book Day this week and we loved sharing our favourite books and charac-
ters. Here are 1D dressed up as their favourite character!

Ducklings &

Butterflies

The Ducklings this week have been busy cooking ,painting and sticking to make lovely gifts for their mummies.

The Butterflies have had great fun playing outside in the garden making lunch in the sensory kitchen, building
towers with the soft blocks and making music with the sensory bottles. As the weather is still cold could all the
babies please come in with a warm coat, hat and gloves please.

Robins

This week in Robins we have been very busy making our mummies or main carers some beautiful Moth-
er's Day cards. We also celebrated Holi with Sia and Neel, which is an Indian festival. Sometimes called
‘Festival of Colour’. We made some lovely spring pictures and threw coloured sand onto them. We also
had great fun playing with the large box of pasta.

Hedgehogs

This week in Hedgehogs the children have been working hard at making special cards for their mummies
or main carers. Everyone spent a long time making sure their cards were just right. We have also been
carrying on with the spring theme and been looking at different types of flowers that are starting to
grow.

Badgers & Foxes

This week in pre-school we have been focusing
on our theme of the week 'SUPERHEROES!'

The children have really enjoyed reading our
class story 'Supertato' and have enjoyed all our
activities linked around this theme.

This week the children have saved the small
world from the evil pea after being frozen in an
ice cube with their water powers! They have
also caught evil peas in strawberry jelly which
they enjoyed getting their hands all sticky and
gooey.

The children have really loved letting their im-
agination run wild dressing up as superheroes of
Claremont saving the day in and around our
classrooms by finding shapes, numbers and
stopping the evil pea from causing mayhem in
our school!

We have also been focusing on our construction
skills in creating our own Headquarters for our
classroom superheroes.

Foxes and Badgers are all 'Superheroes' in
their own way; some are super at writing, some
are super at jumping, some are super at smiling
and others are super at dancing! This week we
not only learnt about 'Superhero' powers but
also how we are all super in our own way!

Squirrels

This week the children have been working hard at making some special treats for their mummies or
main carers. Everyone helped plant some sunflower seeds into pots that had been decorated, and we
are eager to hear about how big they grow! We also looked at the first letters in their names and
what sounds they make.
