Claremont Prep Science Week will take place the week commencing 13 March. This exciting week will culminate
with a Science Fair on the morning of Friday 17 March. All pupils in Y3-8 are invited to take part. There is an entry
fee of £1 per pupil. Fair entries can be completed either be independently or in pairs. Pupils should think of
a Science question they would like answered, investigate the answer at home and then be prepared to present their
findings to the rest of the school. In the past, pupils have presented their work as models, films, songs and
posters. This is always a fun, energy filled event, demonstrating the imagination and ingenuity of our pupils. Pupils
should complete the entry form that is in their form rooms. Parents are invited to attend the fair which will take place
in the O'Byrne Theatre from 10am -11am.

Netball

Week 9 was Inter House Week at Claremont for the Prep Girls The challenges of Inter House
U11 Inter House
Netball!
The U11 competition was run on a 'versatility' Netball format with each

girl changing positions and experiencing play in both defensive and attacking

positions. Every girl also had the opportunity to shoot and score goals for

their team, providing a real all-round team experience. As with any great

competition, the result came down to the very last game between Corinth and

Sparta, with Sparta winning by the narrowest of margins.

Final result

Sparta 23 points

Corinth 21 points

Athens 11 points

U13 Inter
House
1st Athens
2nd Corinth
3rd Sparta
Athens 9 - 6
Corinth
Sparta 7 - 8 Corinth
Athens 10 - 2 Sparta
All the girls played fantastically. It was good to see them using their new centre pass and backline routine,
which we have been practising in lessons this week. Beautiful play, top job everyone. Miss Compton.

Cross Country

A few of our runners from Year 3-6 went over to the annual Ashford Prep School Cross Country. Each school
could enter up to 12 runners, boys and girls combined in each race. Here are some of the standout
performances from the afternoon. In Year 3 - Emil V-R and Ben C finished 10th and 11th respectively out of
60 runners. In the Year 4 race, Orlando S came 11th, Henry S 17th, Max W 20th and Harvey W 21st out of 58
races. Javier G was our first placed runner in 16th, Eddie C-T 18th in the Year 5 races. Finally the Year 6
runners saw our highest placed finishes of the afternoon with Ellison V-R 6th, Luca de O 7th, Barney M 19th
and Charlie G 20th. Well done to all our runners who competed very well all
afternoon.

Cross Country

Hockey

The girls put up a tough fight against Vinehall. Vinehall came out as
overall winners, however, sterling performances from Amy-Lou
helped keep Claremont in the game until the final whistle. Claremont
took a lot away from the game despite it being a defeat, as the girls
started to grasp the concept of positioning themselves
appropriately, when attacking, as plenty of chances were created.

The Y3 and Y4 girls of Athens, Corinth and Sparta combined to
battle it out for the honour to become Inter House Hockey
Champions of 2017. Each house fielded two teams to play in
their own draw and the results combined to find the overall
winners.
The progress that the girls have made this year has been
impressive and it was great to see the Y3 girls hold their own
against their older opposition.

Final result
Athens 30 points
Sparta 20 points
Corinth 14 points

POM
Athens - Summer and Dora
Sparta - Tess and Sarah

Corinth - Amy-Lou and Izzy P

Reception found a fairy trail in the woods and enjoyed listening to the music in the
music from the fairy party tree or the mutterings in the fairy workers tree! We then have made magic wands and left

them by the fairy firs hoping they will sprinkle some magic on them!

Year Two are studying habitats. They went to the woods to search for habitats and link them to the food chain
surrounding it. Joshua found evidence of bats. We also found rabbits, foxes, birds and Leo talked keenly about mini
beasts and how they are important … and form a micro habitat themselves.

We used playdoh to make our 'un' prefix!

went on a spectacular science trip last week, to the Herstmonceux Science Centre. The children
enjoyed exploring, playing and discovering all things in science and space. We all had a fantastic time!

A big thank you goes to Mrs Chessell, Mr Edwards, Miss West and Miss Buckingham who helped with the trip.

This week in the Kingfishers we have been talking all about
Spring! The children wanted to make their own spring
flowers using tissue paper and pipe cleaners to take home.
On Tuesday we decided to go on the hunt around the woods
to see if we could spot different signs of Spring. The
children enjoyed pointing out the different flowers and
exploring the woods.

This week we have enjoyed some of the glorious sunshine,
by taking our learning outside! One afternoon we went to
the 'Harry Potter Tree' and explored the concept of
adding one to a number. The children represented this
problem using sticks and pinecones, this also reinforced
our counting skills. To aid us in our numeral recognition we
have also been decorating ladybirds with spots, according
to a numeral chosen at random by the children.

On top of this, we have had a trip to the Adventure
Playground, the children loved this, exploring their
surroundings and gaining confidence climbing over and
under the apparatus!

This week the Hedgehogs have been expressing themselves through mark making. We have been searching
for numbers in the sand, making patterns in the play dough and have been drawing on the white boards.

This week in Robins we have been super busy down on Robins Farm. We have been having lots of fun with
tractor rolling; we rolled it in different coloured paint which made lots of lovely patterns, we also had fun
jumping in paint with our wellie boots on, making lots of patterns. We also made yummy piggy cakes, which
was loads of fun mixing and decorating.

This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have been busy starting their theme on Spring by painting
beautiful pictures of daffodils for our display board. Both rooms then went on to make their own
daffodils out of tubes, card and paint which look lovely on our Spring Interest table for all to see.
The babies made the most of the lovely weather this week and went for a walk where they enjoyed
looking, touching and smelling the different kinds of Spring flowers in the school grounds.

This week the Squirrels have been busy planting their sunflower seeds. The children cannot wait
to see them grow.
On Wednesday, we flew to the moon during music and movement time: lok at them walking on the
moon in their best costumes!

It’s been a great term in the boarding house filled with many exciting activities. We have said goodbyes to
Jonathan Sommer, Yann Schiller and said hello to Robert Yu.

Maja Matyja, Canelle
Veschambre and Carol Zhou
have recently celebrated their
birthdays, Maja, our head girl,
turned 18. Carol is not a big fan
of chocolate cakes, so she was
rewarded with chicken nugget
cake!

We also looking forward to Everyone is looking forward
