We had a great time enjoying the "Le Plus" Science museum and
Planetarium in Dunkerque on Friday. We actually managed to see
Jupiter with our own eyes, at dusk in the night sky, as we had been
invited to look out for. The planetarium show was "L'aveugle aux yeux
d'etoiles" (The blind man with stars in his eyes) all in French and the
children were taught a few words and phrases beforehand by
Didier; the man projecting the film, who spoke a mixture of languages
to them, explained about the planets and what to look out for at this
time of year in the night sky. He also encouraged them to understand
and respond in French. Bravo 5A! We enjoyed the park in St Omer,
bowling on Friday evening and the market on Saturday morning, as well
as tucking in heartily to delicious French food, both in the three
restaurants we visited and at "home" in La Maison Claremont. The
children spoke confidently to the waiters and waitresses in French to
order their drinks and food and in the boulangerie to buy their
breakfasts of croissants, pain au chocolat and baguettes. They all
behaved very well and were great ambassadors for Claremont. Many
thanks to Mr Wood for driving us and to the children of 5A for making
it such an enjoyable and worthwhile trip!
Anna: "Our trip to Saint Omer was fantastic. My favourite
bit was the 3D planetarium because it really felt like we
were moving. The food was amazing and I enjoyed every
bit of it!"
Sebastian: "My favourite part was lunch and dinner. Lunch:
Flunch - fast food - minibus - baguette - Euro Tunnel -
baguette. Dinner: Le Rialto - pizza, bowling ally - steak
hache"
Ciaran: "The thing I liked the most about Saint Omer is when
we went and bought things and going to eat at Le Rialto".
Zac: "Going to France was a sensational experience for
me. The food was divine and the atmosphere was amazing. I
would definitely recommend going there when you have the
chance."
Matt: "I liked shopping at Auchan and the market. I also really liked
having lunch at Flunch and dinner at the Italian place - Le Rialto."
Galina: "I really enjoyed going to the planetarium as we found out we
could see Jupiter and that night after bowling we saw Jupiter as we came
out of the restaurant!"
Reuben: “My favourite part was going bowling. I also enjoyed shopping in
Auchan, Decathlon and the market."
Year 6 have been learning about the periodic table, and as part
of this chemistry-based topic they went outside to watch a spontaneous exothermic
reaction. There is a time lag with this reaction, set up by Mr. Slattery and volunteer
Joe Cook. Form 6S stood well back and their patience was rewarded when the
Potassium Permanganate and Glycerol eventually ignited!

(captain), Charlie G, Ben R, Freddie S (goalkeeper) and Alfie S,
who have been on fire this year and played amazing football. This
league is the strongest in the area and they fought of the likes
of Sevenoaks, Raw Skills, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells Foresters
and Langton Green, to claim the league title. They move leagues
next season, remaining a Saturday team, as the Crowborough
League changes to a Sunday. As our boys are multi talented they
wanted to keep their Sunday commitments too, notably rugby,
and the club were happy to accommodate. We look forward to
many more cup wins.

Double success in the pool
Claremont 212 - 139 Sacred Heart
We hosted a swimming gala v Sacred Heart on Monday and it
was a fantastic effort by all the swimmers involved. Our
youngest swimmers in Year 4 came up against a strong Sacred
Heart squad. So close were the races that at the end it was a
tie in the scores of 29 points a piece! Our Year 3s swam up in the Year 4 races and a special mention goes to
Alfie H who did really well to come up and help as we only had two Year 4 boys. The Year 5s, who have got two
boys relay teams and are all very competitive amongst each other, came out on top in their group. The girls, who
swam really well this year, came first in all their races, with the help of the Year 4s that swam up to help them.
Galina B again swam really well throughout and a special mention to Liberty B-M, Anna B, Tess R, Summer M, and
Olivia W for all swimming up to help the Year 5 team. Our Year 6 boys and girls squad, who are one of the
strongest year groups for swimmers that the school has had, once again produced a great performance. Evie S,
Eve S, Hattie H, Saffron A again winning their relays to carry on a great season. The boys who have Barney M,
Will de W, Freddie S, Jae M, and Thomas F all putting in great performances to again win both their relays.
Well done to all our swimmers; a really brilliant team effort at the end of the day.

Claremont 99 - 53 Bethany
Our Year 7 & 8 swimmers put in a great display over at Bethany on Tuesday afternoon and from the first
race they were really up for it. We called up Evie S, Eve S, Barney M, James G from the Year 6 squads. The
first races were all 25m and the second races were 50m races. Archie W and Jasper B finished 1st and 2nd in
the 25m Freestyle followed by a 1st and 2nd by Tippi W and Natalia R in the girls 25m Freestyle. We then had
a joint first place with James G and Barney M in the Backstroke race. Evie S and Olivia then matched that with
a close 1st and 2nd in the next race. The Breaststroke races followed with a 1st and 2nd for Barney and Henry
S with Cohen finishing a close 3rd. Evie and Olivia 1st and 2nd again in the Breaststroke. The 50m races
followed suit with first places to Archie in the freestyle and Evie in the Breaststroke. Some 2nd place finishes
by Tippi W, James G, and Barney and Olivia followed in their respective races. We entered 3 boys Freestyle
Relay teams to give as many swimmers a chance to swim and we came 1st, 2nd and 4th in each race. We had 2
girls Relay teams and they finished 1st and 2nd in the Freestyle Relay. In the final race, the Medley Relay we
put in 5 mixed teams and we finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd. It was a really good display by all the swimmers. Well done,
great effort!
Cricket
In-House Pairs Cricket Tournament
Some of the U13s and U11s had a lovely afternoon playing an in-house pairs cricket
tournament in the sun. It was great to see the girls using the 'Z position' when wicket
keeping, and 'grip, stance, pick-up' when batting - we have been practising in games this
week.
1st: Purple team
2nd: Oranges team
Joint 3rd: Green team and Banana team Miss Compton.
U12/11 v Sutton Valence
Finally some 'proper' cricket weather arrived this week in time for our match against SVS. Our girls batted
first and were a little tentative at first, struggling to hit off some erratic bowling. The girls were encouraged
to hit off any wide balls but this became our undoing as we were caught out on four occasions when in reality we
would normally have been been rewarded with 'wides'. This happened less often for SVS as our bowling was
more accurate and therefore it is disappointing that the official result was a loss.
Olivia H was awarded POM as our best bowler with 6 runs off her bowling and no wides/no balls conceded. Our
most successful batting pair were Rachel and Elizabeth (who did not concede runs by being dismissed)
Result:
CPS 121 for 8
SVS 154 for 3 Miss Holmes.
Cricket
U9s v Ashford Prep
The U9s had their first kwik cricket match of the term this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was pleased with
how well each of the girls bowled, despite some of them lacking confidence in this area. We were confident with
the bat, with each batting pair managing to score over the boundary. Olivia W and Fife P were the most prolific
batting pair scoring sixteen runs off two overs. Unfortunately we didn't take our chances to score singles when
they arose and this gave Ashford the edge.
Although there is still plenty to work on there were many positives to take from the game.
Final score:
Ashford 259 for 3. Claremont 237 for 2
Player of the Match this weeks was Fife P.
U8A v Ashford Prep
Claremont 248 - 269 Ashford
POM Ashford vote: Georgia C
POM Miss Compton vote: Beatrice C
Georgia C and Sarah B were the top batters scoring a total 45 runs! Beatrice C and Isabella L were the top
bowlers taking a wicket. A great first cricket game. To improve, when batting we must work on running singles
to score more. Miss Compton.
U8B v Ashford Prep
The sun shone on the Y3 girls first proper cricket match this
Thursday and it was fantastic to see them in action. All of our
girls scored with the bat and also bowled with a good degree of
success. Dora was so accurate that she bowled out one of the
opposition. Eva was voted our best bowler, whilst Lilli and Amy-
Lou were our most successful scorers with the bat.
Miss Holmes.

To end a busy week they’ve been practising typing their

Nursery/Reception sports transition morning.
Having maintained their fascination with the fairy village in the woods, Foxes tackled making
fairy bread during their cookery session this week. This involved weighing ingredients and using
measuring spoons to add the right quantities. In Mathematics, the number aliens were decorated
with felt pen stamper marks to express the numerical value alongside them. Forest School was all
about making a class journey stick as a team activity.
This week the Kingfishers have been busy problem solving. We have been using scissors to cut out
different pictures that all follow a sequence. After cutting them out we then stuck them in the
correct order. We also explored estimation with our bee bot. We used our Beebot map and took
turns to try and get the bee bot to our chosen destination on the map by directing him with the
arrows on his back.
The Badgers have been exploring in the forest this week, by going on a memory walk. Here the
children were given some paper (divided into four sections) and a clipboard. We walked and
walked with our clipboards drawing memorable items along the way. We managed to spot some
flowers, fish, a ginormous tree and somehow a fairy...! We have also been getting creative in our
maths sessions, ordering beanstalks from biggest to smallest and even creating our own . This
brought on lots of role play from the children surrounding different fairy tales including Jack
and The Beanstalk and Snow White!
We have continued supporting the newer children this week by encouraging lots of group activities and
games. The children are forming wonderful friendship groups and are getting along really well with
each other.
This week in Robins we have been looking at the colour green, we made lovely green pictures for
the green display. We also enjoyed a lovely walk down to the duck pond and we saw lots of tadpoles
swimming around. The Robins also enjoyed cooking, we made yummy cheese swirls. It was lots of
fun rolling the dough and spreading the mixture out.
This week the Butterflies and Ducklings have had great fun painting a giant box, which we made into a
den using the rollers, paintbrushes and sponges. Then they enjoyed playing peekaboo and games inside
it.
The Butterflies enjoyed a trip down to the Jubilee garden to look at the vegetables growing and to
water the flowers.
Both rooms enjoyed making pizza which where delicious.
A big welcome to Rosie who started this week in Ducklings.
This week we have been talking about the farm and what we can find there. The children have
been making different animals using all sorts of materials. We have also been checking on the
Jubilee Garden and watering our seeds.
