Key Club International
Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim Sponsors local Key Clubs
Key Club International is the largest co-educational high school service organization in our Nation and Internationally. A local Key Club must be
organized and continuously sponsored by a local Kiwanis Club. Key Clubs are self-governing and elect their own officers, determine their service
projects and fund-raisers and operate under the rules of the school administration. Key Club objectives include the objectives of Kiwanis.
Key Clubs are unique for their aim in the development of initiative, leadership ability and good citizenship practices of its members. Each individual
Key Club is a member of the International Organization with his or her own annual District, International programs and conventions. Each Key
Club’s service activities are designed for their local high school and community needs.
The “Key” in Key Club stands for “Kiwanis Educating Youth”.
The Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim sponsors seven Key Clubs. The newest one is at the all girl Rosary High
School. KCGA also sponsors clubs at Anaheim High School, Katella High School, Loara High School, Savanna High
School, Servite High School, and Western High School.
Each Key Club meets once a week, on campus, with an Academic and Kiwanis advisor present. Just as their title
implies they are there only to advise. The students run the meetings and present projects which their board has
approved. These leaders have been trained and many have attended the yearly District Convention which alternates
between Sacramento and southern California.
KCGA’s Key Clubs are in Division 30 South of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of Kiwanis International.
.
Key Club’s Motto is “Caring Our Way of Life.” The members of the Key Club demonstrate this caring by raising funds
for various organizations with which they partner: UNICEF-Operation Uruguay through the Trick or Treat for UNICEF
raised more than $5 million dollars over the year, most recently raising more than $3 million to fight HIV/AIDS in
Africa; March of Dimes-Key Club International began partnering with the March of Dimes in the 60’s and continues to
collect dimes in hopes that someday children will be born free of birth defects; and Children’s Miracle Network-this
non-profit raises money to benefit hospitalized kids .
KCGA Key Clubs volunteer in local events such as the Disney Half-Marathon, Relay for Life, the Anaheim Children’s
Art Festival, the Anaheim Halloween Festival, Anaheim Paint Your Heart Out, the Kiwanis CHOC Carnival, and
supports Kiwanis projects such as this All Star Baseball Game; providing lunches for the Orange County Special
Olympics Regional Track Meet; and our annual music festival/pancake breakfast in December.
Key Club turns 85 this year and the members continue to pledge to uphold the Objects of Key Club International, to
build their home, school, and community; to serve their nation and God; and to combat all forces which tend to
undermine these institutions.
The Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim is proud of its Key Clubs which inspire by their shining service and give
everyone faith that the future of this nation is in good hands.

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim has participated
in the Special Olympics since it began in Orange
County in the early seventies,
thanks to the efforts of Ralph
“Pete” Esten. Through 1997,
Pete “ran the show” for
KCGA, taking care of all thee
details necessary for us to
provide free lunches to
the competitors, coaches and
counselors. On May 22 of this
year over 1,400 lunches were
served at the Special Olympics
Regional Games held at
Irvine High School. It’s
estimated, since the Kiwanis
Club of Greater Ahaheim
intiated this program, over
30,000 free lunches have
been provided.
