~1~ 44TH EDITION ANNUAL RUGBY INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY MATCH SEKOLAH DATO’ ABDUL RAZAK, MALAYSIA & KING’S COLLEGE, THAILAND The bond between Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak and King’s College Thailand (KC) has been established since the 70s. This bond was formed by the late Tuan Haji Rahman bin Yeop, the principal of Sekolah Dato’ Abdul Razak and Mr Vinai, the director of King’s College during that time. After an agreement by both parties have reached a mutual understanding, a strong bond has been established. And it remains strong to date. Both institutions continued visiting each other’s establishment. Rugby, is the main agenda and the factor that kept this tradition going strong throughout the years. Since both KC and SDAR are elite school, rugby is the main niche area for both. In addition, during every meet, a cultural exchange session will always follow suit. Both host and guest will participate in cultural performance, as an effort to showcase their country’s heritage. We hope that this continuous initiative by both institutions would act as a way to strengthen the relationship between both Malaysia and Thailand. Conduct a friendly match to test the players’ readiness to compete at an international level. Continues the international networking with institutions from other countries. Expose the students to international level tactics and strategies. Learn the ethnic and culture of international society.

~5~ – SDAR and King’s College’s relationship was formed in December 1976, when SDAR won the Under-20 MSSM Rugby Tournament. This success had opened up an opportunity for SDAR rugby players, led by the captain, Mr Mahadir Ayob @Kodet, to represent Malaysia in the Asian Schools Rugby Football Tournament. In the same year, King’s College (KC) and Vajiravudh College (VC) rugby teams represented Thailand in the same tournament. Apart from these three, there were also participations from 6 other countries which added intense competition to the tournament. Unfortunately, Malaysia had to settle for the 4th place after being defeated by the indomitable KC and VC. Despite the defeat, both teams had expressed interest in having annual friendly matches with SDAR. However, since VC had already established ties with the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, SDAR opted to choose KC. KC initiated the visit and partook in a friendly match with SDAR in mid 1977. Although KC won the match against SDAR, they lost to the Negeri Sembilan State Team. SDAR once again succeeded in winning the 1977 MSSM Rugby Tournament and represented Malaysia in the Asian Schools Rugby Football Tournament for the second time. In the ASRFT- 2 1977, SDAR lost again to KC and VC. However, the close ties that were forged through friendly matches have strengthened the bond of friendship to this day. 2023 marks the 44th year of friendship between KC and SDAR. It is hoped that this friendship will continue to grow stronger with the help of former and current rugby players from both schools.
