Articles คือ คำนำหนา้ นาม เปน็ คำส้นั ๆทีจ่ ัดอยู่ในกลุ่ม
Determines (ตัวบง่ ช)้ี ทว่ี างไวห้ นา้ นามหรือกลุม่ คำนาม เพื่อใหค้ ู่
สนทนาเข้าใจว่าส่งิ ทพ่ี ดู ถึงกันอยนู่ ัน้ คือสงิ่ เดียวกนั หรือเป็นทเ่ี ขา้ ใจ
ตรงกนั และยงั มไี วเ้ พ่อื เตมิ เต็มให้ประโยคทีพ่ ดู ดูสมบูรณ์มากขนึ้

คานาหนา้ นามท่ีไมช่ เ้ี ฉพาะ

1) การใช้ a นำหน้าคำนามนับได้เอกพจน์ท่ัวไปไม่เฉพาะเจาะจง มคี วามหมายว่าหน่ึง
ใช้ an นำหนา้ คำทขี่ ้ึนต้นด้วยสระ a, e, i, o, u หรอื ออกเสียงสระไมว่ า่ จะเขยี นขน้ึ ต้นดว้ ย

พยัญชนะกต็ าม
- She lives in a ginormous house. = เธออาศัยอยู่ในบ้านหลงั ใหญ่โตมโหฬารหลังหนงึ่
- I see an elephant in the zoo. = ฉนั เหน็ ช้างหนง่ึ ตวั ในสวนสตั ว์

2) ใช้นำหน้าคำนามที่เกร่ินนำเป็นนครัง้ แรก
- Rumor has it that we will have a new homeroom teacher soon.
ข่าวลือวา่ เราจะมีครปู ระจำชั้นคนใหม่กันเรว็ ๆน้ี

3) ใช้นำหน้านามท่หี มายถึงชนิด ประเภทหนง่ึ ของกลุ่ม
- A child needs love. = เดก็ ทกุ คนกล็ ้วนตอ้ งการความรกั
- A box has six sides. = กลอ่ งใบหน่งึ มี 6 ดา้ น

- My cousin wants to be a psychologist. = ลกู พ่ีลูกน้องฉนั อยากเปน็ นกั จติ วิทยา

5) ใช้นำหนา้ คำหรือวลีบอกปรมิ าณของคำนามพหูพจน์ หรือนามนบั ไม่ได้
- a lot of water
- a good/great deal of money
- a couple of days

6) ใช้นำหนา้ นามทเ่ี กย่ี วข้องกับเวลา มคี วามหมายว่า “ต่อ” สามารถใชแ้ ทนคำว่า “per” ซ่งึ แปลว่า
“ตอ่ ” ได้

- Oranges cost 50 baht a kilogram. = สม้ 50 บาทตอ่ กโิ ล

7) ใชน้ ำหนา้ คำนามท่ีพดู ถึงอาการเจ็บป่วย
- I have eaten papaya salad at lunch and now I have a stomachache.
ฉนั กินสม้ ตำตอนเที่ยงและฉันจึงปวดทอ้ งตอนน้ี

8) ใชน้ ำหน้านามที่มีคำ Adjective ขยาย หรือมีประโยคย่อยตามหลัง
- A good knowledge of philosophy = ความรู้ดเี รือ่ งปรชั ญา

9) ใช้นำหน้าช่ือคนท่ีไมร่ ูจ้ ัก หมายถึง “คนชอื่ น้ีคนหน่ึง”
- A Mr. White called when you were out.
มผี ู้ชายชอ่ื มิสเตอรไ์ วทโ์ ทรมาหาตอนท่ี เธอไม่อยู่

10) ใชน้ ำหน้านามในสำนวน S+ is/was/has + such + a/an + ADJ + N เพอ่ื เน้นความรสู้ ึก
- It is such an intriguing question. = มันเป็นคำถามท่ีน่าสนใจมาก

11) ใชก้ บั โครงสรา้ งประโยคอุทาน What + a/an + Singular Noun แต่ถ้าตามดว้ ยนามนับไมไ่ ด้ไม่
ตอ้ งใส่ a/an

- What a lovely house! = บ้านสวยอะไรอย่างน้ี
- What awful weather! = อากาศแย่อะไรแบบนี้

หลักการใช้ definite articles (The)
คานาหนา้ นามท่ีชี้เฉพาะ

1) ใชน้ ำหนา้ คำนามเอกพจน์ พหูพจน์ นามนบั ไดห้ รือนับไม่ได้ เพ่ือช้เี ฉพาะเจาะจง
- This is the way we live our lives. = นค่ี ือวธิ ใี ชช้ วี ติ ในแบบเรา

2) ใช้นำหน้าคำนามท่กี ลา่ วซ้ำหลงั จากท่ีได้เกริ่นนำไปแล้ว
- They asked me 2 questions. The first one was relatively easy but the other
was really hard.

3) ใช้นำหนา้ คำนามที่ครั้งแรกแตเ่ น้นชี้เฉพาะ ทำให้คู้สนทนาเข้าใจตรงกันวา่ หมายถึงอะไร
- Do you see the girl in blue? = คุณเหน็ เดก็ ผู้หญงิ ชดุ สฟี ้านั่นไหม

4) ใช้นำหนา้ คำนามที่มีอยเู่ พียงสิ่งเดยี ว
- the moon
- the sky
- the stars
- the sun
- the universe

5) ใช้ในการเปรียบเทียบข้ันสูงสดุ
- the best
- the worst
- the most important
- the saddest

6) ใช้นำหนา้ เคร่ืองดนตรี ใชก้ ับสำนวน play the….
- She plays the flute, but I play the guitar. = เธอเป่าฟลุต แตฉ่ นั ดดี กตี ้าร์

7) ใช้นำหน้า ADJ. หรือ ADV. ในรปู การณเ์ ปรยี บเทยี บข้ันกว่าตามโครงสร้าง
The + ขน้ั กวา่ , the + ขน้ั กวา่ = ยง่ิ ….ย่ิง
- The more you practice, the better you will become. = ยิ่งเธอฝกึ มากเท่าไหรก่ จ็ ะ
ย่ิงเกง่ มากเทา่ น้ัน

8) ใช้นำหน้าคำนามท่หี มายถึงสัญชาติ หมายถึง “พวกคนชาตนิ ัน้ ”
The + nationality
- The Chinese speak Mandarin and Cantonese. = คนจีนพดู ภาษาจีนกลางและกวางตุ้ง

9) ใช้นำหน้าคำนามท่ีเก่ียวข้องกบั สภาพทางภูมิศาสตร์ เช่น แม่นำ้ ภูเขา เกาะ ทะเล กลุ่มประเทศท่มี ี
ขนาดใหญ่มากหรือมลี ักษณะเปน็ เกาะ ทิศ เป็นต้น
- the Chao Phraya River
- the Nile
- the Maldives
- the Philippines
- the Pacific
- the north

10) ใช้นำหนา้ คำนามท่ีหมายความถึงสิง่ ประดิษฐ์ เทคโนโลยตี ่าง ๆ หรือสายพันธ์ุของส่งิ มีชวี ิต
- The whale is in danger of becoming extinct.
วาฬกำลังตกอย่ใู นอนั ตรายจากการสูญพนั ธุ์
- The robotic vacuum cleaner has made housewives’ lives much easier.
หุ่นยนตด์ ดู ฝุ่นได้ทำใหช้ วี ติ แม่บ้านสะดวกขึน้ มาก

11) ใชก้ บั อาชีพหรือตำแหน่งใหญ่ซง่ึ มีอย่คู นเดียวในสถานทน่ี ้ัน ๆ หรอื ท่ีพดู แลว้ คนมักเขา้ ใจตรงกัน
- the school director
- the Pope
- the President

- the King
- the Prime minister
- the Minister of Education
12) the + ADJ = N หมายถึง “กลุ่มคนพวกนน้ั ”
- the homeless
- the injured
- the old

13) ใชน้ ำหนา้ นามสกุล หมายถึงคนในครอบครวั นน้ั ทง้ั หมด
- The Johnsons
- The Smiths

14) ใช้นำหนา้ สิ่งทีใ่ ห้ความบันเทิง
- I always listen to the radio while driving.

Article

หลกั การใช้ Zero Article

คำนามหรือในสำนวนบางประเภทไม่สามารถใส่ Article นำหน้านามได้เพราะผิดหลกั ไวยกรณ์แตใ่ น
บางประเภทเราจะเลือกใส่หรือไม่ใส่ก็ไดเ้ พ่ือสอ่ื ความหมายของคำนามนน้ั ๆ ให้ต่างออกไป ดงั
ตัวอยา่ งตอ่ ไปนี้

1) คำนามนับไม่ไดแ้ ละพหูพจนท์ กี่ ล่าวถึงจำพวกหรอื ประเภทของสิง่ ตา่ ง ๆ ทั่วไปไมเ่ ฉพาะเจาะจง
- Men and Women have similar abilities and needs.
ท้งั ผ้ชู ายและผหู้ ญิงกล็ ว้ นมีความสามารถและความต้องการท่เี หมือนกนั

2) สถานทท่ี ว่ั ไป เชน่ ชื่อทวีป ประเทศ เมือง รัฐ ถนน สะพาน ปราสาท พระราชวัง โบสถ์ สถานี ช่อื
บรษิ ัท ห้างสรรพสินคา้ หรือสนามบิน เป็นตน้
- Siam Paragon is a shopping mall in the center of Bangkok.

3) ชอ่ื คน
- Andrew is a friend of mine. = แอนดรูว์เป็นเพ่ือนของฉัน

4) ชอ่ื วัน เดือน ปี ฤดูกาล วนั สำคญั ต่าง ๆ และศาสนา
- It is very hot here in summer. = อากาศทนี่ รี่ ้อนมากในช่วงฤดูรอ้ น

5) มือ้ อาหารท่ีพูดทั่วไป แตห่ ากเนน้ ว่ามื้ออาหารมอ้ื ไหนโดยเฉพาะ จะใช้ “the” นำหน้า
- What shall we have for lunch? = เราจะกินอะไรเป็นอาหารกลางวนั ดี

6) สถานทีท่ ี่ผู้พดู หรือประธานของประโยคมีความเกย่ี วข้องด้วย แตห่ ากตอ้ งการพดู ถึงตวั สถานท่ี
เฉย ๆ ไมไ่ ด้เกยี่ วขอ้ งกับสถานท่ีนนั้ ให้ใช้ “the” นำหน้านามนั้น
- I met him at university. = ฉันเจอเขาท่ีมหาวิทยาลัย

เจอกนั ตอนทเ่ี ปน็ นักศึกษามหาลยั

- I will meet him at the university. = ฉนั จะไปเจอเขาที่มหาวทิ ยาลัย

สถานทน่ี ัดเจอคอื มหาวิทยาลัยแห่งหน่ึง ทง้ั สองคน
ไมไ่ ด้เก่ียวข้องกับสถานที่นนั้

7) สำนวนเกยี่ วกับการเล่นเกมหรอื กีฬา
- Alex plays chess as a hobby. = อเล็กซ์เล่นหมากรุกเป็นงานอดเิ รก

8) สำนวนอนื่ ๆ
- at home/ go home/ arrive home
- by + พาหนะ…car/ plane/ bus / bike (เดนิ ทางโดย…)
