Rehoboth Beach fireworks light up Independence Day
CHRIS FLOOD PHOTOS The fireworks were set off a little farther south this year because the normal beach location isn’t quite wide
enough right now.
A perfect beach day July 3 was followed by a perfect night for fireworks
in Rehoboth Beach. A nice breeze kept the humidity at bay for the most
part. The beach and Boardwalk were shoulder to shoulder during the col-
orful display. The Funsters kicked off the show with a lively performance
at the Bandstand, which is celebrating its 60th year in 2022. The crew
from Zambelli Fireworks set off more than 1,000 fireworks.
Looking south from the deck at Above the Dunes, above, the only open
patch of space on the beach is where the fireworks crew is setting up.

In 1968, Lewes friends Phyllis Hoenen and Carolyn Shockley gathered a
few people together for an impromptu July 4 parade. It didn’t take long
for the Doo-Dah Parade to become a unique tradition. Family and friends
of the founders continue to carry on by spreading word about the parade
and taking part in it. This year’s parade was held in memory of the found-
ers and many others who have supported the parade over the years.
People decked out in red, white and blue on bicycles, pushing and pull-
ing wagons and strollers, and in decorated vehicles and flatbed trailers
line up along Manila Avenue for the 5 p.m. parade, which travels down
Kings Highway to Second Street, then back around on Third Street and
up Savannah Road.
As tradition goes, above, Diane Hoenen leads the annual July 4 Doo-
Dah Parade along Kings Highway in Lewes.

ON A HOT SUMMER DAY, Milton decided to take a trip to the past with an afternoon of family fun at the annual Bring
Mayberry Back to Milton event July 4. A celebration of old-school town fairs, the event is geared toward kids, with a se-
lection of old-fashioned games like ball toss, spin the wheel and rubber duck matching. A dunk tank is also set up, where
throwers can attempt to dunk members of the Milton Fire Department. The afternoon also featured a patriotic bike parade,
where kids ride bikes from Irish Eyes into Memorial Park. And since this is Memorial Park, kids lined up to take a ride on the
mini-train, above, sponsored by Milton Lions Club.

Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down
into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers
1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each
number can appear only once in each row, column and
box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers
will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in
the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets
to solve the puzzle.

Your home is more than just shelter
from the elements. It’s a scrapbook of
past memories and a blank page for new
stories. It’s where board game winning
streaks are broken, family recipes are
passed down to the next generation, and
solo music acts become not-so-solo.
Your home is an endless library to a lifetime
of memories. Write your next story.
