SEE EAT DO PLAY | FREE EDITION 13 | THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 2023 THIS WEEK ON THE CAPE BILL BAXTER AND OUR THRIVING SKIMBOARDING MOVEMENT RURAL MEETS COASTAL

2 THE CURRENT | AUGUST 10, 2023 Beginning in the early 1920s as a casual activity in Southern California, the enthusiasm for skimboarding has evolved into a competitive sport with participants from all over the globe. Locally, Dewey Beach is a skimboarding hot spot known for its flat and wide beaches which make it an ideal location for skimming. Leading into the 41st Annual Zap Pro/Am World Championships of Skimboarding this weekend, we’ll introduce you to a few local riders and all-around ambassadors of the sport. Be sure to make your way to McKinley Street in Dewey on Friday or Saturday to watch professionals and amateurs alike show off their skimming skills. After an exciting day on the beach, it’s nice to slow things down, have a glass of wine and enjoy the sunset. If that sounds appealing to you, choose one of the local wineries we’ve highlighted on page 4, all of which are a short trip from the beach. The weekend is here, have at it! Boston Beer Co., brewer of Sam Adams Boston Lager, and Dogfish Head of Milton, have signed a merger agreement valued at approximately $300 million. Dogfish Head Founder Sam Calagione said the Dogfish brand will remain intact in the Cape Region. “Nothing changes at our Delaware locations,” he said. Calagione said merger discussions started in February at Extreme Beer Fest in Boston. As for why they decided now was the time to merge their companies, Calagione said, it’s all about staying competitive. “We saw that the international breweries that dominate the U.S. marketplace were buying up what were once true indie craft breweries,” he said. “We saw an opportunity to stand up together for true American indie craft and talk about the importance of American craft breweries.” The merger will allow Dogfish to expand its Beer & Benevolence program, which is expected to raise more than $1 million this year for the Delaware chapter of The Nature Conservancy. “With this merger, we will have a foundation that will allow us to make even bigger investments in the nonprofit entities that do such important work for coastal Delaware,” Sam said. – RYAN MAVITY AND NICK ROTH To celebrate the Cape Gazette’s 30th anniversary this year, we are publishing some of our favorite stories from the past. 4 THE CURRENT | AUGUST 10, 2023 Whether this is your first time or you’re a seasoned vet, we got you. We’ve picked the best Cape Region things to do this week. Most are free—some cost a few bucks. The First State’s agriculture provides a wealth of resources including grapes grown for winemaking. Get a taste at these wineries in Southern Delaware that provide patrons the chance to relax with a glass of wine (or two) and a vineyard view.   Harvest Ridge Winery and Rebel Seed Cidery MARYDEL You’ll feel right at home at this family-owned winery and cidery. Harvest Ridge — named after the original farm the vines are grown on Salted Vines Vineyard & Winery in Frankford. LET’S GO Among the Vines Take a break from the beach and raise a glass (or two) of vino at one of these First State wineries. BY MEG RYAN today — began in 2011 with chardonnay, viognier, malbec and merlot grapes. The winery opened its doors to the public in 2013. Step into the tasting room to try a specific varietal or a few with a wine flight.  Nassau Valley Vineyards LEWES Take a short drive from the beach to visit the First State’s original commercial wine vineyard. Founded in 1987 by the Raley family, this vineyard produces chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot grapes. Guests will also taste other regionally grown fruit in Nassau Valley’s 14 wines. Visit the vineyards and winery for a tour and tasting. Plus, check out the farmers market hosted on Sundays from mid-May to mid-October.  Pizzadili Vineyard & Winery FELTON The Pizzadili brothers, Pete and Tony, began this vineyard to continue their father’s passion of winemaking. Today, the vines produce 12 grape varieties that are the source of all the winery’s vinos. Patrons can find the perfect wine for their preferred flavor palate including Delaware, a sweet white dessert wine, and Brothers’ Table Wine, a dry red wine.  Salted Vines Vineyard & Winery FRANKFORD This 26-acre vineyard began planting in 2016 and hasn’t looked back. Visit the cozy tasting room to sip on varietals including malbec, vermentino, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Guests can bring their own bites to enjoy alongside the vinos or check out the food trucks that visit the property on weekends and at special events. Salted Vines also provides its own charcuterie options for purchase.  Twin Branch Winery MILTON Located between the beaches and small towns, this vineyard offers a secluded spot for wine tastings. Twin Branch’s first vines were planted in 2013. The vineyard sits six feet above the water table, providing a peak environment for grape growing. The two streams that border the property give the vineyard its namesake. The farmhouse welcomes guests to bring charcuterie boards to complement their wine of choice on the patio or along the pond. Twin Branch offers multiple labels including merlot, chardonnay and rosé.

For Danielle Ponder it took the shape of a leap of faith: leaving her successful day job working in the public defender’s office in her hometown of Rochester, NY to devote herself full-time to sharing her voice with the world. The singer-songwriter’s eight song debut, Some of Us Are Brave, reinforces that her faith was not misplaced. Written and recorded over three years, the album is a refreshingly original, shiver-inducing mix of pop, R&B, blues, rock, and moody trip-hop topped by Ponder’s celestial voice — an instrument that can plumb melancholy depths with a heartsick murmur and scrape the sky with hurricane force wails. Planting the Seeds Fox Briar Farm embodies a deep commitment to the preservation and reverence of the natural ecosystem. THE CURRENT BITE Chef Hari Cameron is a renowned culinary expert, consultant and restaurateur. He has received critical acclaim for his modern farmto-table approach to cooking and has been recognized for his numerous contributions to the hospitality industry. With a passion for using the highest quality Mid-Atlantic ingredients, Chef Cameron has become a leading voice in today’s culinary landscape. HARI CAMERON + Chef consultant Nestled within the serene expanses of Maryland, Fox Briar Farm embodies an extraordinary symphony of art and agriculture. The passionate grower of this magical half-acre is Kathleen Moss, whose unwavering love for farming, community engagement and aesthetic innovation breathes life into the vibrant tapestry of vegetables that her farm yields. Her journey into farming began during her college days when the seeds of fascination for the land were sown. After a brief stint working in an office in Washington, D.C., she returned to her calling, drawn by the inherent pull of the land. In 2014, Fox Briar Farm started on a small plot in Salisbury, Maryland. In 2019, she moved the farm to Hurlock, Maryland, where it continues to flourish, embodying her agricultural vision. A deep commitment to the preservation and reverence of the natural ecosystem underlies Moss’s approach to farming. She employs no-till farming methods, viewing the land as a holistic organism deserving of care and respect. She sees her relationship Just harvested carrots from Fox Briar Farm in Maryland. AUGUST 10, 2023 | THE CURRENT 9 Kathleen maintains organic practices at her Maryland farm. Jimmy Young tends bar at Summer House in Rehoboth Beach and Nalu Surf Bar & Grill in Dewey and Rehoboth Beach. He has been in the restaurant industry since his college days in 1998. For the past six years, Jimmy maintains full service at the bar while simultaneously DJing from midnight until close. Despite earning a degree in Environmental Studies from Washington College and spending time studying crabs and chickens, he was always drawn to beach life and the restaurant industry. “It’s the people. Even on a random Tuesday night, it can be so interesting and fun. Everyone has a story.” During the day, Jimmy runs The Beach Volleyball League in Dewey, which includes 25 teams of all players in the service industry from various restaurants. They meet at the Lighthouse Monday through Thursday, and if Jimmy isn’t playing on a team, he’s refereeing the games. Jimmy says his go-to drink is a cold shot of Rumple Minze Peppermint Schnapps. “I love it so much they should sponsor me,” he jokes. (Rumple Minze if you’re reading this, reach out). Nalu has a lot of martinis on the menu, what is the most popular? We sell a lot of Espresso Martinis and our Signature Hawaiian Martini because we make an in-house pineapple-infused vodka. How do you deal with a rowdy/drunk guest when the bar is crowded? I always just try and stay calm and give them their tab. That usually gets the point across. How do you handle both bartending and DJing simultaneously? I work on a good team. I like to be busy and in that last hour of service, I just have to be quick. Bartender, Jimmy Young. JIMMY YOUNG NALU & SUMMER HOUSE ASK THE BARTENDER BY LANA MORELLI with the land as an intimate dance, where every step must harmonize with nature. Despite not being certified organic, Moss insists on maintaining organic practices, as she sees it as her duty toward the land and her customers. Her carefully selected seeds, predominantly heirlooms and Italian varieties, show Moss’s farming philosophy. She sources her seeds from Johnny’s Seed Catalog, Uprising Seeds and Fruition Seed. The choice of seeds, she believes, is more than a decision about which vegetables to grow. It’s a commitment to preserving the rich narratives and history associated with heirloom seeds, celebrating the diversity of life our planet offers. An eye-catching array of radishes, eggplant, tomato, celery, beets, squash, cucumbers, carrots and scallions color the fields. However, due to the farm’s limited scale, Moss intentionally omits certain land-intensive crops like beans, corn and watermelons. Fox Briar Farm’s aesthetic philosophy goes beyond the field’s confines. It’s in every aspect of Moss’s approach to her work. From the farm, it extends into her customers’ homes through the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model. This innovative model, introduced in response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, provides not just a consistent cash flow but a platform for Moss to experiment with crop diversity and share her love for lesser-known vegetables with her members. Moreover, Fox Briar Farm maintains a strong presence at The Historic Lewes Farmers Market, an integral part of the local community. Here, Moss cherishes the opportunity to meet her customers, learn about their preferences and needs and introduce them to vegetables they might have yet to consider. These interactions, often loaded with smiles and stories, are a vital feedback loop that enables her to cater her offerings to her community’s needs. The COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges for the farm, as it did for everyone. Yet, her determination and adaptability turned the crisis into an opportunity for innovation. The CSA model, a direct response to the pandemic, strengthened her bond with her community. Moss’s commitment to her farm, community and the land extends well beyond long hours in the field and at the market. She is actively involved in A Million Acre Challenge, a Maryland-based regenerative agriculture initiative helping to shape a more sustainable and resilient future for agriculture. Looking ahead, she has plans to extend the CSA into the fall season, offering her members an even broader array of vegetables. For those considering a foray into farming, Moss provides the wisdom of her experience: seek mentorship, be prepared for hard work and explore creative solutions to startup hurdles like land sharing. Fox Briar Farm thrives under Moss’s devoted stewardship. Every vegetable grown and harvested is not merely a vegetable, but a piece of art. Her farm offers a feast for the senses and is a testament to the vast possibilities when art, culture and community intertwine. It’s a love letter to the land, written in the language of seeds, soil and harvests.

AUGUST 10, 2023 | THE CURRENT 11 The words, “Drink the wild air, Be bold, Be free, Get lost & find yourself Somewhere” are emblazoned in a mural on a street-facing wall at 52 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach. The words exemplify how Aileen Hearn lives, works and plays. It’s also the inspiration for the restaurant housed inside, Somewhere, for which she started with partner and co-owner, Kyle Ten Eyck, in late 2020. Strapped with ample artistic passion and the entrepreneurial gene in her blood, Hearn’s sights were always set on being able to create. Her father, Chip Hearn, a lifelong restaurateur, has owned such local eateries as Country Squire, The Starboard and The Ice Cream Store, so Hearn grew up in the industry. Now at the age of 30, her resume boasts ownership of four local businesses. A Dewey native and self-proclaimed beach bum, she taught herself to sew and made her first bikini at 16. She went on to graduate from The University of Delaware with a degree in graphic design and advertising and launched Bare Native Swimwear, a line of custom-made swimwear, from her bedroom in 2015, after passing up a job at Kaikini Bikini in Kauai, Hawaii at the advisement of her family. A couple years later, it was creative coffees and wild milkshakes that she poured her artistry into when she opened Mug & Spoon on Rehoboth Avenue. But when the challenges of limited parking and a desire to expand forced them out, the pair opened Somewhere in the 100-year-old beach house-turned-restaurant that was previously home to Iguana Grill Restaurant & Cantina. But a return to Rehoboth Avenue called them again, this time to dabble in retail. Their latest venture, Coastal Native, opened its Rehoboth Avenue doors this summer, offering mostly handmade, local, sustainable items and art. Additionally, it allows them to co-brand their busineses, as all the merchandise available at Somewhere is also for sale at Coastal Native. What was it like closing Mug & Spoon and opening Somewhere? We wanted to expand our creativity and connect with customers on a new level. 52 Baltimore Avenue ended up being the perfect location for us to really design the space in a way we love. We opened mid-pandemic, so it was a funky time to start something new. We eventually got approved for an outdoor seating area that we filled with tropical plants and good vibes, which we now call The Oasis. Where did the name Somewhere come from? We knew we wanted a playful name that would open up questions and we landed on Somewhere thinking it would be pretty fun and mysterious to have our customers saying, ‘Where are we going tonight? Somewhere!’ What would you tell others who dream of opening a restaurant? Make sure you’re always CREATING fun with your business. Between my bikini company, Kyle’s photography business, Mug & Spoon and Somewhere, we have never stopped creating fun products that lead us to engage in fantastic customer interactions. Even though life in the restaurant industry is incredibly tiring, our favorite part will always be interacting with customers and making fun, positive connections — including taking our team on a boat outing. Do you have time for anything else? We have a super cute, happy white German Shepherd named Valkyrie. On the few days we have off, we take out our boat and hang on the sand bars with the pup. We also have some great trips planned to the islands and to Ireland, England and Scotland. Aileen Hearn OWNER, SOMEWHERE AND COASTAL NATIVE There’s one common thread through all Aileen Hearn’s many pursuits — the unquenchable thirst for creativity. 12 THE CURRENT | AUGUST 10, 2023 By the late 1870s, one preacher had already declared Rehoboth “a den of dancing, card playing and whiskey drinking,” but it started as a religious retreat. In the early days, traveling Methodist preachers spoke in barns, fields — anywhere they could draw a crowd. By the early 1800s, they had begun to hold camp meetings where people gathered for several days to hear sermons and read the Bible. Reverend Robert W. Todd, a pastor from Wilmington, had the dream of creating a Christian seaside summer retreat. In 1873, the Rehoboth Beach Camp Meeting Association of the Methodist Episcopal Church was formed to buy the land, lay out the streets and sell lots. They set up an open-air tabernacle for worship near where Grove Park is now and sold lots for $75-$150 (they’re worth slightly more now). People built wooden houses they called “tents.” They were just 300 square feet, one or two rooms and had no heat, electricity, or indoor plumbing. Within a few years, vacationers arrived, and before long the “tents” were replaced by lavish summer cottages, and then year-round homes. Rehoboth Beach became a destination for folks who just wanted to frolic in the sea (and of course dance, play cards and drink whiskey). Few camp meeting buildings remain and this one on Baltimore Avenue has been updated significantly but preserved. Inside, you’ll find a thoroughly modern restaurant, but the building started out as a religious retreat “tent” built on sand, near the soul-cleansing powers of the Rehoboth surf. Can you locate the camp meeting house, one of the few remaining structures from when Rehoboth Beach was a religious retreat? A SHORE BREAK FOR A youth movement and annual competition is spurring growth in the sport. We chatted SKIMBOARDING with passionate skimboarder, Bill Baxter, on how he’s pushing his sport into new frontiers. BY MATT AMIS | PHOTOGRAPHS BY JOHN YEATMAN, JR.

BILL BAXTER SOUNDS MILDLY BUMMED. IT’S THE MIDDLE OF A HEAT WAVE IN BETHANY BEACH: “BAD FOR OCEAN WAVES,” HE SAYS. N Skim Jam in Bethany Beach is a weekly demo and hangout hosted by professional skimboarders.

20 THE CURRENT | AUGUST 10, 2023 Baxter has a couple dozen kids in mind. They’ll be turning up soon for Skim Jam, a weekly demo and hangout hosted by professional skimboarders like Baxter, who shreds the surf on boards visitors can rent or buy from Bethany Surf Shop. The tradition has been running for 22 years straight. Skim Jam is just one reason Delaware beaches have emerged as an epicenter for the sport. “It’s cool, and it’s become like a meeting point too, which I think is really rad because we’ve got some local kids and then you have all these other kids from different areas,” Baxter says. “They met at Skim Jam and now they’re summer buds.” No matter the waves, young boarders usually have a blast with Baxter. The skimboarding pro grew up on a couple acres of farmland in Stockley. His mom Olive, a fellow beach fanatic, was happy to drive them to Bethany or Fenwick Island whenever chores were done. Though Baxter still maintains a connection to the farm — “we’re ready for that sweet corn to be ready for the barbie,” he says — he found his true calling in skimboarding. The slimmer, shorter cousin to surfboards, skimboards allow the rider tighter control on the comparatively smaller waves Delaware beaches offer. Beneath the right pair of feet, they can resemble skateboards on the ocean, complete with kickflips and scalpel-sharp 360 rotations. The unique properties of the Delaware coastline make it an ideal skimboarding spot. “We get really good shore breaks,” explains Jason Wilson, a Dewey Beach skimboarding icon. “The waves break at a linear angle and riders are quite attracted to that. Since the ‘80s, there’s been top riders coming from this area that have gained some exposure, which has highlighted the area as well, in addition to the competition.” Wilson knows a thing or two. Harry Wilson, Jason’s father, is a local pioneer for the sport. “He manufactured the boards in Georgetown, and sold them for a long time, so it became really popular here,” Jason Wilson says. In addition to running Alley-Oop, his skimboarding lessons and camp business, Wilson directs the Zap Pro/Am World Championships of Skimboarding, now in its 41st year. Its tradition and its quality have made Zap — so named for the skimboard company who sponsors the event — one of the East Coast’s premier events for the sport, drawing around 200 of the best pro and amateur skimboarders from around the world, plus nearly 1,000 daily spectators. World champions attend Wilson’s tournaments, and last year, the Zap Pro/Am doled out $10,000 in prize money to competitors. “I’m really proud to showcase this coastal vibe, our skimming culture. We have some art at the event, we have some music. It’s WHICH WINCH? The motorized winch (seen here with Baxter) has added a new dimension to skimboarding. Think of it as the cousin of tow-in surfing (where a watercraft positioned out in the ocean tows the surfer on a line at a high-speed and into the waves). Instead of a boat, this version utilizes a small, motorized device with a retractable rope inside. It’s gas-powered, and can resemble a go-kart motor. With an assistant operating the winch that’s been anchored near the surf, the skimboarder holds onto a handle on the other end like a water-skier. When the line retracts, the rider goes whipping into the waves or the gaps between them. As the rider lets go of the line, they can build up speed ranging anywhere from 15 to 40 miles per hour. It’s a dance that requires some rhythm and timing from both the winch operator and rider. But when it works: “I think it’s great…the slams are so gnarly,” says Baxter. Below: A proud Bill Baxter (second from left) at a recent Skim Jam. The 2023 Zap Pro/Am World Championship of Skimboarding takes place Aug. 11-13 at 9 a.m. at McKinley Street in Dewey Beach. The competition concludes with an awards ceremony on Sunday. everything I like about this area that I try to highlight and make it the best we can this weekend. It’s a bit of a circus in town for the weekend. But I know a lot of people really enjoy the circus.” Aside from the skim contests, the weekend includes live reggae music and DJs, and some requisite partying. On Saturday night, Wilson and organizers host an art show called The Art of Skim at Ivy in Dewey Beach. Artists and celeb skimboarders painted and autographed unique mini skimboards, which will be displayed and auctioned off for charity at North Beach. “It’s like our 4th of July,” says Baxter, who, along with Wilson, have emerged as two of Delaware’s ambassadors for skimboarding. But that picture might be expanding. A youth movement — led by women like Sydney Pizza, an up-and-coming star who turned pro in 2022 — is again spurring growth in the sport. She splits her time between Dewey Beach and California, returning to coach in Alley-Oops’ camps. “She’s really great and an ambassador for the young ladies,” Wilson says. “I think that’s pretty neat, the growth of the women side of the sport. That’s a pretty big trend across the board right now in board sports.” Baxter is helping to push his sport into new frontiers, too. He’s an early adopter of a motorized winch pulley system that whips riders into waves with incredible speed and control. Imagine an electric, retractable rope that allows the skimmer to tow himself through waves like a water-skier. “Your rides are amazing with a winch. The slams are amazing too,” he says. “It’s still new and we’re still pushing the boundaries.” Local heroes like Wilson, Baxter and Pizza get their moment in the sun later this week at the Zap Pro/Am, where they’ll sign autographs, give out stickers and sell T-shirts, all while helping and hyping the contests. “It’ll be cool because a lot of my boys will be in town and I get to show them around Sussex County and give them a good time,” Baxter says. “As far as skimboarding in the summertime, it’s on tons of people’s schedules,” says Baxter. “It’s like a holiday weekend. And the cool thing is you’ll see generational stuff: we get to see the people that Wilson and I looked up to when we were little kids, and now we’re pushing kids in skim camps and stuff like that. It’s cool to see the process keep going and seeing the sport grow and evolve.” I’M REALLY PROUD TO SHOWCASE THIS COASTAL VIBE, OUR SKIMMING CULTURE.” — BILL BAXTER

Skimboarding HOW TO WOW AT The biggest sin in the world would be if I lost my love for the ocean. —LAIRD HAMILTON ➊First of all, rule of thumb: get a skimboard that stands at about mid-chest height. ➋Choose a quiet stretch on the beach that has a flat shoreline. ➌ Once you’ve waited for a wave to ebb, run towards the water. Drop the board on the wet sand as you reach the water, but be gentle with it — skimboarding is all about light touches and nimble reflexes. ➍Step onto the board (do not jump) with your front foot first and quickly follow with your back foot. Keep your knees bent and your weight centered. ➎ Once you’re on the board, lean forward and glide toward the slope. To turn, shift your weight to one side and turn your shoulders and hips in the opposite direction. ➏ Once you’ve developed a rhythm with sand skimming, you can progress to wave skimming. As you approach the wave, maintain your speed, lower your backhand, bend your knees and pivot your board toward the shore. Then, shift your weight to the back of the board when you complete the 180-degree turn to avoid nosediving or pearling.

To help keep the state’s beaches and waterways free of trash, volunteers are needed for Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s 36th annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup, set for 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 23. Volunteers must preregister by Friday, Sept. 1, for their choice of 45 sites using the mobile-friendly Coastal Cleanup registration process at de.gov/coastalcleanup. Walkups are not encouraged due to volunteer site-capacity limitations. In support of Gov. John Carney’s Keep DE Litter Free initiative, Delawareans and visitors are encouraged to carry out independent cleanups of neighborhoods, green spaces and waterways throughout the state all during September. “Four years after the launch of our Keep DE Litter Free initiative, we are seeing Delawareans of all ages and communities coming together to keep our neighborhoods, coastlines and outdoor spaces clear of litter,” said Carney. “Over 1,200 volunteers came out to last year’s Delaware Coastal Cleanup to help in our statewide cleanup efforts. Thank you to all volunteers who participate in our efforts to keep our state beautiful.” “Last year, the number of volunteers who joined us to pick up trash from our beaches, waterways and wetlands doubled. This year, we hope that even more Delawareans and visitors of all ages will give their time for one day to make a difference,” said Shawn M. Garvin, DNREC secretary. “We also continue to encourage volunteers to make every day a cleanup day in Delaware during the month of September, and throughout the year.” Last year, 1,180 volunteers cleaned up 6,248 pounds of trash from waterways, wetlands and other natural areas. The top five trash items collected were: 12,280 cigarette butts, 4,986 plastic and glass beverage bottles and cans, 4,852 food wrappers and containers, 300 balloons and 459 plastic bags, half the number from the year before. AUGUST 10, 2023 | THE CURRENT 25 This is a common question buyers ask while searching for their retirement or second home. There are many factors to consider and both types of ownership offer pros and cons, but it comes down to the buyer’s preference. During your transition to retirement, you may be able to generate income from weekly or seasonal rentals to pay some of your mortgage or expenses until you make your permanent move. Detached homes usually have larger yards for people who like more privacy, outdoor living or maybe gardening. Detached homes can be in homeowner’s associations (HOA) with amenities such as pools, all-purpose courts or walking trails. Owning a detached home as an absentee owner may require you to hire a property manager for landscaping and building maintenance, especially if you consider renting. Some HOAs offer maintenance-free communities which could be a viable option, but rules may prohibit short-term rentals, so be sure to check the community documents before signing an agreement. Condominiums are communities with common interest ownership that include grounds, roofs, siding, other common areas and amenities. The maintenance costs of the common elements as designated in the community documents are shared by all owners along with insurance and other expenses. Most condos are professionally managed, so owners are only responsible for maintaining their units. This type of ownership is great for absentee owners or investment buyers who want to rent to offset community fees and mortgages. When it comes down to it, the buyer’s preference, location and price point will decide what is best for them.  My wife and I are planning to retire to the area in two years. What are the pros and cons of purchasing a detached home verses a condo?
