OUR STORY
Heather and Justin Brasure
Married on Oct. 16, 2020
“Not only was I married during COVID-19, I was also
engaged during COVID-19,” writes bride Heather Brasure. “My
husband, Justin, and I got engaged on June 14, 2020. We started
to plan our wedding and had a guest list of 125 people. We
started to look at venues and everywhere we turned we found
had different rules due to COVID.
We are both members of the local fire department and
thought about doing it there; however, they still have rules to fol-
low due to COVID. We very soon realized a big wedding would
not be possible due to how unpredictable COVID-19 was.
“We started looking into the new trend of small/micro wed-
dings. We found the most beautiful bed and breakfast in Ches-
tertown, Md. (Great Oak Manor.) We went up to visit the loca-
tion and fell in love. We decided to have a micro wedding. We
got married on Oct. 16, 2020. We went from having a guest list of
125 people to getting married with only eight people in atten-
dance. However, my wedding turned out to be more than I ever
thought it would be. Looking back now, I am so glad I didn’t end
up planning a huge wedding as it would have all been canceled
anyway due to COVID. I would have been out time and possibly
money. Our wedding was perfect.”

The Centers for Disease Control

least six feet between yourself and
other people who are not from your
household. Public health officials
continue to champion social distanc-

that many people have experienced as
the pandemic stretched on for months.
Though much of the world hit the pro-
verbial pause button, life went on dur-
ing the pandemic. Perhaps nowhere
was that more evident than at the altar,
where many couples still tied the knot,
albeit in scaled back ceremonies that
adhered to social distancing guidelines
in their communities.
Engaged couples who have yet to tie
the knot no doubt recognize that plan-
ning a socially distant wedding will
not be the same as organizing more
traditional ceremonies and recep-
tions. While planning a socially distant
wedding presents some unique chal-
lenges, couples can take certain steps
to ensure their big day is memorable
and safe.
• Spread the socially distant
word. Let guests know what they’re
in for should they decide to take part
in the festivities. Many people have
strictly followed social distancing
guidelines, while others have been
reluctant to do so. Couples intent on
keeping themselves and their guests
safe from COVID-19 should emphasize
that their weddings will be socially
distant affairs so there’s no confusion

OUR STORY
Hannah and Nate Osberger
“Married on Oct. 10, 2020
Nate and I got engaged in April 2019,” said Hannah Osberger.
“We booked the Inn at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Kent Island,
Md. for our wedding of about 60 people (immediate family and friends
only). It was never going to be huge, but it would have included all our
friends.
My father has had significant health problems over the past couple
of years and was finally officially on the heart transplant list Jan. 1,
2020. He was then hospitalized in late February and successfully
received his heart transplant on March 12, 2020. That was also the day
before everything shut down due to COVID, and we could no longer
visit him. With my dad being extra high risk and many friends expect-
ed to be coming in from out of state, as well as COVID still in full force,
we decided in May to cancel our plans at the inn and have a small, in-
timate wedding at my parents house with just our immediate families
(12 total). So we had the wedding in Newark, still on our original date,
catered by Café Gelato. We still had photographers and hair and make-
up done at the house prior to the ceremony, which was performed by
Nate's dad. My dad was the DJ with a playlist I had made, and he was
thankfully able to walk me down the "aisle,” into the backyard and
dance with me. We still had a cake and did our white pumpkin fall
theme. I Zoomed with my friends as I got my makeup done. It was a
very special day.”

• Plan B: Ultimately the elements
are in control during outdoor wedding
ceremonies. So couples hoping to host
an outdoor ceremony may want to
look for sites that have a readily acces-
sible indoor option just in case Mother
Nature is not cooperating. Many
reception venues are capable of host-
ing indoor and outdoor ceremonies as
well as dinners, so this might be the
best option for couples who want to
have outdoor weddings during times
of the year when weather is typically
inclement or unpredictable, such as
winter, early spring or late fall.

difficult as planning more traditional

The online resource SimplyEloped

The service offers advice on every-
