Chronic LSS lasallianscholars society

As we dive into the stories and experiences of the second chapter or YUG10 of the 10th Lasallian Scholar Society, we find ourselves filled with a sense of gratitude and accomplishment. Just like a music festival featuring artists from decades ago, our events in the second term took us on a journey through time, showcasing the richness of our organization's decade-long history. In the past months, we were thankful to have numerous events and opportunities, from our warm term welcoming to our engaging general assemblies, where ideas flourished and bonds strengthened. We achieved significant milestones, including the successful execution of our biggest annual flagship project, Scholars' Week 2024! These events brought our community closer together in celebration of our shared passions and aspirations towards our collective growth and success. We invite you to join us in reliving the moments that defined our second term – the victories we celebrated, the challenges we overcame, and the lessons we learned along the way. From the first event to the last culminating night of the term, every experience was a testament to the passion and spirit that define our scholar community. We hope that as you flip through these pages, you'll feel inspired and empowered by the stories of our filled yet fulfilling term. As we eagerly anticipate the next chapter of our journey, let's carry forward the lessons learned, the memories made, and the melodies that have shaped us. Like a music festival that leaves us wanting more, we're excited to continue creating more memories and writing our story together with you, our dearest scholars!

When you belong to an organization of individuals who each sport their skills and talents, pinpointing the achievements of those who are the best among the rest is a challenge. However, thanks to the initiatives of the Lasallian Scholars Society project heads, achievements are celebrated and hard workers are acknowledged through the implementation of the event, “Scholars of DLSU and Scholar Spotlight.” Aiming to provide a platform wherein the exceptional accomplishments of Lasallian scholars are showcased as an inspiration to others, this yearlong event, which will continue until Term 3, recognizes scholars and their inspiring stories through posts on the official Lasallian Scholars Society Facebook page. One of the first to be recognized is Charlize Lim, a proud BS Biology Major in Medical Biology student from the College of Science, who is an aspiring medical doctor and researcher with not only a plethora of experiences and achievements as a leader, journalist, innovator, and LSS tutor under her belt, but also a passion for promoting good health and well-being to help those in the marginalized sectors of society. As Charlize says in her testimonial for advice to her fellow scholars, we should all strive to become a “network of scholars intertwined in initiatives for the common good of the masses.” With Charlize as an example, we’re reminded of the true definition of the Lasallian exemplar: empowered individuals who are committed to inspiring excellence and driving innovation in the pursuit of societal well-being. OneScholar, OneLasallian! In each and every university, it consists of a diverse community, with different strengths and skills that build and strengthen the foundation of these institutions, leading to personal development and nurturing of the academic community. With that, there will be a scholar community that shares a common vision to develop and excel in various fields in the university. It is very important that this community of scholars should be given opportunities in order to participate in events that could support their future endeavors and help the scholar community build a stronger relationship with each other. With these being said, an initiative program led by the Lasallian Scholarship Society which aims to ensure that the scholarship community are assisted by the University Student Government (USG), to disseminate all important announcements to scholars, and to provide the scholars development opportunities such as workshops to equip scholars with the right skills and mindset, helping them to develop their knowledge and skills in their respective academic fields. The Scholar Bulletin program, led by both the LSS Scholar Services Committee and USG Executive Treasurer team, was relaunched last February 5, 2024. With that being said, it is very important and it is a must to have a specific support system, group, or programs which will help scholars in their own academic journey as well as guide and help them attain their academic scholarship needs and goals. Who could have thought that a simple piece of paper can be transformed into several structures with just a combination of folds? Sit down, grab a paper, and imagine an object or a figure that you would like to make. Make seamless folds, and without you realizing it, you’ve already created an airplane, a swan, a flower, or even a butterfly. As KrimStix advertised, “imagination mo ang limit”. With the goal of fostering student connections through arts and writing, the Lasallian Scholars Society (LSS), headed by the Organizational Development Committee, spearheaded Fold Your Way To Fortune which allows scholars and non-scholars to create their own Origami pieces. Each Origami piece was converted into a raffle ticket which gives them a chance to win prizes. From March 4 to 22, students were allowed to create their own Origami pieces with their corresponding notes. Each Origami piece was featured in LSS’ dedication wall during the Annual Scholars’ Week. 19 students tried to fold their way to success, creating unique Origami pieces that reflected their imagination. In the end, three students - Ella Ilagan, Althea Mae Reyes, and Errol Aguas - were the lucky ones to win the prizes. May the event serve its purpose of helping students unleash their creativity, express themselves through art, and connect students with one another through meaningful conversations. NURTURING THE SELF: NURTURING THE SELF: By: Aragon Ry Pinero Even in the present, mental health and emotional stability have been an ever-persisting issue around the world, including the students of De La Salle. This social issue has always been a significant problem towards the entirety of the student body, playing various factors whether it would be academic performance, social capability or just the day to day cycle of our livelihood. It becomes a detriment, chipping away at our own ability to think, react and respond which can lead to irrational results and corrupt our own ethics and character. Of course, there is never a moment where we can free ourselves from making our own mistakes, we are always bound to make them. However by fostering our own wellbeing, we can minimize and diminish the chances of creating these mistakes and by realizing the importance of mental clarity and embracing the Self, FPS: Self-Care Algorithm was actualized. On February 28, 2024, FPS: Self-Care Algorithm was held as a Zoom Orientation during the warmish afternoon of Wednesday. From 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM, the orientation was fulfilled with care, creating a safe space for the entire audience while venerated speakers hosted the event significantly with grace. The event was educational, teaching the importance of loving the Self more than what we make ourselves out to be and knowing how to exercise our mental wellbeing and improving our own soul and self-esteem. FPS: Self-Care Algorithm was a success, creating the opportunity for our fellow participants to understand the importance of having self-respect or self-esteem and maintaining emotional well-being to create clear results and becoming aware of our own decisions moving forward as we traverse the crossroads of life. Mistakes and doubts, both are unavoidable but know that being aware of them is a part of loving yourself.

What’s a university life without trying out new things? As we enter our university lives, I am sure that each one of us had this #BucketList of things that we would like to try in DLSU. For instance, who wouldn’t want to take a photo or even make a TikTok video in front of the Henry Sy building? Who wouldn’t want to explore the warp zones that connect buildings around the campus? What would make things better is ticking out each item in our bucket list with our not-so-old or even newfound friends. With the goal of allowing students to connect with each other through meaningful, fun activities, the Lasallian Scholars Society (LSS), headed by the Organizational Development Committee, organized Diary ng Lasallian 2.0. The project featured several activities, such as taking photos with matching outfits, making a TikTok video within the vicinity of the campus, and even buying a Belgian Waffle. Participants were grouped into 4s, allowing them to create new connections and do activities together. Groups were given 10 days in order to complete their tasks and forge new memories. In the end, Group 4 composed of Alexis Valenzuela, Althea De Los Santos, Kimberly Mangilog, and Christian Adorna rose above and were hailed as winners for completing the tasks given. May this event not only serve as a ground for creating new connections among students, but also an avenue where last memories that we can keep for the rest of our lives be created as well. Until then, we shall see you on the next installment of Diary ng Lasallian. NewTerm, New#BucketList:DIARY NGLASALLIAN 2.0 By: Lance Jerson Crisostomo

the Once again, the Lasallian Scholars Society demonstrated its commitment to promoting talent and entrepreneurship with the highly successful Scholars’ Week Market Fair last March 18 to 22 at the Meadow. This annual event provided a platform for scholars and alumni to showcase their businesses aroundcampus. Among the standout booths were those of the Diamond partners, including Shararart offeringcustomizedportraits, Andi isGentle with handmade crafty products, Kor’ndog PH serving up delicious Korean corn dogs, Hooked Yarn showcasing crochet products, Tensai Accessories featuring fashionable accessories, and Mindwerks offering educational toys and mind games. Additionally, Gold partner Toppa Arome also attracted attention with their perfumebalms. Armed with entrepreneurial spirit, participating scholars engaged with potential buyers and persuaded passersby to support their ventures. As the week ended, owners and buyers alike burned with passion and support, hinting at the impending summer heat. Here comes the sun, ready to guide scholars with its warmth alongside the camaraderie of the entire Lasallian communityon the next terms to come. By: Angela Mae Santos

An exciting event awaited the whole Lasallian community on the third day of Scholars’ Week as The Battle of the FearLSS: The Amazing Race, headed by the Activities Committee of the Lasallian Scholars Society, commenced, which brought out the competitiveness of the fearless participants, both scholars and non-scholars, as they took the challenge head-on. Just like any other festival, attending this kind of event is more fun with friends, so the participants of the race were grouped into four teams, which enabled them to showcase their teamwork and coordination despite being new to each other. They were faced with 10 different challenges where each station should be finished within 10 minutes. However, the time pressure and difficulty of the challenges did not stop the participants from bringing out the best of their whole team. According to Alex Valenzuela, a participant in the race, out of all the stations they encountered, the highlight of the race was how their arms hurt after balancing the stacked pyramid cups and how they were transferring the cotton balls stuck on their noses due to the vaseline they applied. Furthermore, hunting for photocards hidden in the venue and popping the balloons placed around each others’ waists are also highlights of the race because these really brought out their competitiveness to gain additional points. The Battle of the FearLSS: The Amazing Race has given the whole Lasallian community a chance to take a break from their deadlines and enjoy participating and completing the challenges laid out in front of them. They have not only won amazing prizes, but they have also gained precious friends and acquaintances while taking on the challenge. Take note that this is only one of the few exciting events held in this year’s Scholars’ Week, so be sure to expect more fun and excitement next year! In time for the celebration of Scholars’ Week on March 22, 2024 Alumni Homecoming 2024 invited Lasallian Scholars to cultivate meaningful connections and knowledge exchange between alumni and current scholars. This event fosters a Lasallian scholars community that unites as one and supports one another. We were graced by the presence of some of the esteemed scholars namely Jasteen Panganiban, Sophia Jimenez, CJ De Guzman, Jorem Serrano, Joanna Talampas, and Sir Paul Arcega . All together after a fun exchange of introductions, the tour started with the LSS booth with the photo booth and a trip down the memory lane with the photographs of LSS previous years’ general assemblies. Can’t help feeling the nostalgia as they told their own general assembly experiences. They were also able to roam around the booths by scholars with their business in the Market Fair in CADS where the alumni showed their support by trying and buying some of their products. The alumni were also able to know what events and activities the10th LSS prepared for the Scholar’s Week 2024 such as the Taftest, Battle of the FearLSS, Market Fair and Lemniscate. As the tour came to an end, the alumni went together to eat a light dinner and went to Brother Gonzales Andrews Building, where their tour guide awaited them for the 10th Lemniscate General Assembly in the 20th Multipurpose Hall where some of the alumni shared wonderful messages with the community. From the 40s to the 2020s, it is beyond doubt that we’ve spent the last term gazing back whilst still moving forward. With a music festival-inspired theme, our scholars went above and beyond in celebrating our decadelong miLSStone we once just looked forward to before. Scholars Week 2024 has long been a tradition of our organization yet it never fails to bring a unique touch of each of LSS batches’ own type of magic. As we continue the legacy of the past to build a foundation for the forthcoming years of LSS, we continue to reflect the signs of the times through our traditional SW projects. Notwithstanding the foregoing, officers of this year made significant strides in revisualizing a new Scholars Week for all with our such new projects like Scholars Market Fair and Fold Your Way to Fortune, not to mention how Alumni Homecoming was also rebranded in welcoming our alumni as well. It has been a long term for us with all the projects that were merely envisioned to be realized greater than what it ought to be. Seeing the smiles of the scholars makes every time and effort poured by everyone feel utmostly worth it. Truly, Scholars’ Week is more than just a tradition and celebration, but a gathering of a family that we’ll always come home to at the university. From hereon out, LSS does not stop here in making strides and marking milestones for more new beginnings that will be planted for the last term. No goodbyes yet, just. . . . watch out!
