ChronicLSS Volume X Issue I

[LSS] T1 CHRONICLSS (1)

FOREWORD How quickly time passes when we are with you, scholars, whom we have shared our laughs and tears with! Ten years may have come by swiftly, but the story of us always leaves us feeling sparks fly. Entering a new era with you is always a place of comfort knowing that a community and a home await after a transient term break at every academic year-end. YUG10, our yearlong theme, is a constant reminder to gaze back and appreciate the journey that the Lasallian Scholars Society has ignited last year. It may not have been the first term we envisioned it to be, but know that your smile makes every effort and flashes of anti-hero—all worth it. It is never too late to laud and tap our backs for a job well done for what term we have just had and how much more we can achieve for the upcoming one. Together, with our 119 dedicated LSS officers, our fellow scholars, and the entirety of the Lasallian community, we have written this publication filled with the memories we relished for the initial months of our affinity. This is just the beginning of the yearlong celebration of our decade together, onto making more miLSStones with you and for you all! Are you ready for it? We were both young when I first saw you. . .

OFFICER RECRUITMENT WEEK From October 2 to October 14, 2023, scholars were enchanted to fill out their application forms and attend interviews, in hopes of shaking off the mundane. The Lasallian Scholars Society’s executive board, on the other hand, engaged in thoughtful conversations, selecting officers whose vision resonates with the organization's heartbeat. After the delicate dance of selections and considerations, the accepted officers were unveiled, creating ripples of excitement throughout the organization’s community. The announcement was a spectacle, with names shining bright on Facebook, resembling a dazzling marquee. As we welcome these fresh faces into our close-knit family, we're reminded of Taylor's wisdom quote, This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change. The 10th LSS Officer Recruitment Week has set the stage for a new love story, and we can't wait to see how our talented recruits will help us pen LSS’ next hit. Cheers to the fearless applicants who are ready to lead us into a future filled with music, harmony, and success! FearLSS By: Jacinta Nicole T. Villanueva

Setting the tone for the upcoming academic year, LSS showcased its activities and upcoming events for the scholars to look forward to. With LSS committees presenting their edge and shouting their lungs out, “You belong with me!!” each committee invited all to the other side of the door to take on the service with the LSS team. Ending the event with pictures NOT to burn, keeping this moment timeless in our memories as every scholar went home knowing that the invisible string had just led them to another family in DLSU. You're on your own, kid…As the academic year starts, a wave of frosh scholars enter the gates of De La Salle University. Lasallian Scholar’s Society did not make us feel that we are on our own with the enchanted and warm 2023 Scholar’s Acquaintance Party on September 27, 2023, with a Taylor Swift theme! Nothing was out of style as everyone walked in the room, making the whole place shimmer! It was indeed nice to have and meet a friend as we went on a fearless adventure around the room, meeting fellow scholars from across batches and colleges. Tied together with a smile, every scholar was off about each activity with their superstar moment of singing, drawing, dancing, and a little hunting – a twist to the event having impostor seniors within the groups of ID123! Such as the songs of Taylor Swift; excellent scholars filled the room with their versions of the story of their LSS acquaintance party experience. Some scholars’ versions stood out as we awarded Errol Patrick and Acey Errol with the Mr. Perfectly Right Award, Ella with the I’m Only Me When I’m With You award, Xandrei with the Folklore Storyteller Award, Gian with the Shake it Off Award Aki with the Speak Now Award, and Sami and Hanielle with Enchanting to Meet You Award! LSS HERE, WAITING FOR YOU! By: Akee Ugalde Welcome to Welcome to NewFam? “So make the friendship bracelets Take the moment and raise it You’ve got no reason to be afraid”

Much like Taylor Swift’s music career, a new academic year marks a new era in a Lasallian’s university journey. As the first term unfolds, the online webinar “2023 Introductory Dean’s Lister Seminar (IDeaLS)” served as a guide for students to excel academically—progressing from tentative beginnings to confident accomplishments. Starting a AIMING FOR THE AIMING FOR THE By: Hanielle Jermayn Conducted by the Academics Committee, this online webinar was held last October 4, 2023 to prepare and encourage students to aim for the Dean’s List. From qualifications to benefits to tips and advice, Ms. Kyla Tuaño started off the webinar with introducing these intricacies in becoming a Dean’s Lister. Similar to Swift’s dedication in her “Red” era, she encouraged commitment and resilience to one’s academic pursuits as she told the audience to “Remember the kwatro, aim for 4.0!”, pertaining to her four principles in achieving academic excellence: “Discipline”, “Feel the Fear”, “Plot and Plan”, and “Support System”.

in Style: Afterwards, Ms. Alyssa Joie Tablada talked about maximizing the Lasallian experience. Apart from excelling in academics, she highlighted the importance of joining extracurricular activities, finding the right friends, and making time for oneself to rest. She wrapped up with the quote “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” by Jim Ryun. The IDeaLS webinar, echoing Taylor Swift's journey, emphasized dedication and balance. Ms. Tuaño's principles echoed Swift's commitment, while Ms. Tablada highlighted a well-rounded experience. Their advice guides students toward academic success, mirroring Swift's persistence across changing eras. E. Chua (James) Dean’s LIST

TUTORIALSS: GUIDING THE RIGHT LESSONS BY: ARAGON RY PINERO Once again, TutoriaLSS has maintained its reputation as being a staple program being offered every term as it guides those who are lost in their struggle in their Academics. TutoriaLSS has provided every student an opportunity to learn and grow their knowledge of their interests and needs. Promoting academic effort, scholastic values and achieving success through further advancing the understanding of our fellow scholars and other peers and avoiding the pitfall of our Mid-term Exams and Final Papers. This term, TutoriaLSS has offered programs to tutor courses in General Mathematics, Engineering, Psychology, Microbiology and more! We hope that everyone that has attended the program learned a lot for their course of interest and survived this term with flying colors and as always, stay tuned for next term for potentially new course offerings in next term’s TutoriaLSS.

It is no secret that change is inevitable. That in itself can be frightening. We’ve all had a hard time adjusting, moments where we thought we had the shiniest wheels only to see them rusting. Such synecdoche aptly portrays the experiences we, Lasallian scholars, have had with the transition from graduating senior high school to entering university life. In response to these challenges, the Scholars Services Committee spearheaded an initiative through a series of engaging and educational publicity materials dedicated to fulfilling its mission of fostering a vibrant community of academic excellence and holistic growth. With an insightful take from the scholars themselves, the entire community was equipped with prime locations to eat and study, effective study hacks, and invaluable survival tips. The program offered proper measures to prevent difficulties adjusting and emotional distress in addition to its academic advantages. Time, mystical time, indeed never stops moving. But with the organization’s information campaign, To Do Series: Scholars into Univ Life, LSS says…you’ve got no reason to be afraid. BY: ANGELA MAE D. SANTOS YOU'RE NEVER ON YOUR OWN, KID

From crafting meticulous project proposals to efficiently reserving equipment for events, the yearly process workshop remains a cornerstone of the Lasallian Scholars Society’s (LSS) commitment to operational excellence. Traditionally centered around the Documentation and Logistics committee, the said process workshop witnessed a transformative expansion during the organization's 10th year on the agenda. This year, the Activities and Organizational Relations Committees took center stage, expanding the training scope beyond what we are used to. The Activities Committee dedicated a day to empower the new LSS officers with the art of hosting events, offering them invaluable insights into orchestrating engaging and flawless activities. This ensures that the organization’s future events will be nothing short of spectacular! Just the same, the Organizational Relations Committee stepped into the limelight, dedicating a day to preparing officers for internal and external partnerships, in hopes of building successful relationships within and beyond the LSS community. Indeed, the success of the 10th LSS Process Workshop serves as a beacon of accomplishment. It has not only equipped the officers with a robust foundation in documentation, logistics, event hosting, and collaboration, but it has successfully primed them for the things to come. Here's to a decade of greatness and to the bright future that the newly trained officers are poised to shape! PROPOSE, HOST, COLLABORATE, REPEAT. By: Jacinta Nicole T. Villanueva

reputationTHE COLORS IN THAT BLANK SPACE What a wonderful time to take a break, and make our brains spark to create. This term, scholars had the opportunity to showcase their creative minds through Scholars on Top: Toward a New Chapter. It allowed scholars to ease their minds of academic priorities, spending their spare time on a mesmerizing art to behold. With all the submissions, only 10 finalists were selected through online votes and were further narrowed down to 3 winners by the contest’s artistic judges. It was concluded that the winners were: “b.s.”, Ella Ilagan, and Lawrence Basallote, receiving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively. Our winners had minimal words, yet their messages seem so pure, seemingly deep but might utterly be simple. It was an art deserving of a standing ovation and a loud applause. Although the event did not bear anything for these participants’ grades, the inks and thoughts consumed were fruitful beacons of inspiration to others, that academics are only another color in our lives and that the bigger picture can only be painted by a mixture of multiple colors. They can See Through You They can See Through You

Another term, another chance to be a better Lasallian. For scholars, there is an even greater challenge that beckons us as we strive to outbest our efforts from last term and try to garner as many more 4.00s as possible to raise that GPA, no matter how difficult it may be. However, as in everything in life, putting in the work becomes much sweeter when a reward awaits you at the end. Thankfully, at LSS, the perfect reward system has been devised for the masterminds who have reaped the fruits of their labor in their academics - the Cloud90: Start of Something New raffle contest, open to all undergraduate Lasallian students throughout Term 1 of AY 2023-2024. The contest’s mechanics prove how this ingenious system serves the purpose of motivating Lasallians to constantly give their all for every requirement. Students can only acquire raffle tickets if they have at most five graded assessments where they have been graded with a score that is 90% or higher. Running from October 14 to November 15, accepted submissions from Lasallians of different year levels who were eager to garner the prizes prepared for them by LSS. Alas, the odds were in favor of only 10 lucky winners: Josh de Villa, Chiara Antonio, Jieah Hilario, Aleah Borela, Cheska Maniquis, Alexis Valenzuela, Anela Maree Jardin, Leanvic Bantungan, Bienne Yu, and Precious Francisco. What a way it was to end the term as a winner, and indeed an exciting start of something new as a Lasallian fueled with a passion to succeed. CLASS S+ FOR LSS' SPOOKTACULAR: SHAKE, RAFFLSS, AND ROLLS “Saan aabot ang P25 mo?” Such a tagline might remind you of Selecta’s iconic Cornetto. The luscious, creamy, and fragrant ice cream in a perfect crunchy cone sometimes topped with a flavored disc - what a perfect combination! But, with just ₱ 5 more, the Lasallian Scholars Society (LSS) was able to bring lots of new sensations to the table. LSS brought not only rich flavors, but also tension, chills, and excitement with a thrilling event - Spooktacular: Shake, RaffLSS, and Rolls. Headed by the Finance Committee, “Spooktacular: Shake, RaffLSS, and Rolls” is a month-long event that allowed students to participate in a raffle where they could win prizes worth ₱300, ₱500, and ₱1000. More than just being a simple raffle event, RaffLSS aimed to boost the organization’s capacity to help scholars address their needs, especially in these times of inflation. Spectacular, isn’t it? Or rather, Spooktacular! 24 days passed and students were sending entries left and right with the hopes of grabbing the podium prizes of this thrilling event. On the 24th day, some 388 total entries were tallied - with each one hoping to grab one… two… or all three prizes at stake. In the end, three mighty students prevailed - defying the odds and mind-boggling probabilities. Karuna May Mansukhani, Jillen Perez, and Kenneth Macy Estabillo - the three destined to receive the ₱300, ₱500, and ₱1000 worth of prizes respectively. To all the participants, “Boo!” See you at the next RaffLSS! By: Lance Jerson Crisostomo

BEYOND THE WALLSS: CALL FOR SCHOLARS

BEYOND THE WALLSS: CALL FOR SCHOLARS

WELCOME TO LSS, IT'S BEEN WAITING FOR YOU! By: Charles Camero & Shaina Delia G. Tomaneng After much awaited time, ALPHA: LSS’s 1st General Assembly finally came to be on the 17th floor of the Br. Andrew Gonzales Building last January 19, 2024. Also functioning as a term welcoming event for the start of Term 2, it was the first time most of the Lasallian scholars got to meet up as one after joining the Lasallian Scholars Society family. ALPHA: 1st General Assembly

Following the opening prayer by Alexis Abellar and the opening remarks by Jhon Rey Raagas, the program commenced with a series of games and an introduction of the officers for the academic year 2023-2024. LSS President, Kyla Cansana, and Executive Vice President, Aira Romero, then took the lead in presenting the list of activities to be hosted by LSS this term, including the General Assembly for Term 2, Scholars’ Week, Alumni Homecoming, Teambuilding Events, and Scholar Services. After a delicious pizza food break, a Just Dance Socials period was given to the participants, followed by a pajama fashion show-pageant that recognized the top 10 best dressed scholars in the program. Emerging as the best of the best was Alyssa Nicole Cabarrubias of the Organizational Development committee. As the long-awaited program came to an end, Kyla Cansana left her closing remarks for her fellow scholars, with Rashelle Fe Garcia leading the closing prayer. Of course, no LSS event is complete without pictures - memories of another successful event by the 10th LSS and reminders of what it feels like to finally be home.

In an organization, what do we actually form? Is it just a simple group of people who shall work on projects? Or… do we go beyond the bond of being a group and form something more close-knit, genuine, and lasting? … in the case of LSS, what are we actually forging? … Well, it is definitely more than just being a group. … Oh! We are forming a family. After a series of rescheduling, and adjustments, the Lasallian Scholars Society finally hosted its first team building for Academic Year 2023 - 2024 last January 31 at our dear campus's Enrique Razon Sports Center. Grounded on the objective of appreciating the essence of the organization and strengthening bonds, the Organizational Development Committee prepared activities that will allow its officers to interact, get to know each other more, and make meaningful connections with each one. Sure enough, the smiles and interactions of each officer in the activities such as the ice breaker and the water activities conducted in the swimming pool were mesmerizing. Each one got to spend quality time with his or her fellow officers and forge a bond that would benefit not only our personal growth but also the growth and success of our organization. LSS: MORE THAN JUST AN ORGANIZATION by: Lance Jerson C. Crisostomo

The team-building event proved that LSS is not just building any type of organization. It wants to build a family where officers can find peace, comfort, and a boost to continue traversing the path toward their goals. Taylor Swift once said, “Life isn't about how to survive a storm, it's about how to dance in the rain”. Through this team-building event, may we all get through the challenges ahead of us, individually and collectively, together and by association with positivity, love, and pursuit for progress and transformation. In LSS, we are not just an organization… we are a family!

AFTERWORD As we reflect on the first chapter or Unang Yugto of the 10th Lasallian Scholar Society, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the beginning of a new year together again. This first term has been filled with memorable moments. From the inception of our projects to the realization of our initiatives, each page allowed us to reminisce on what has been achieved and reflect on the importance of our community. To the Lasallian community and all our fellow scholars, your support and enthusiasm have been instrumental in making our projects a reality. Your belief in our mission fuels our determination to continue making a positive impact. To the dedicated project teams behind our initiatives and the 119 remarkable officers of the 10th LSS, your hard work, passion, and commitment have been the driving force behind our success this term. As you flipped through the pages of this magazine, we hope you found yourself reliving the milestones and memories that have defined our first term together. Indeed, it is only just beginning. As we look ahead to the succeeding terms, we are filled with excitement for all that is yet to come. Together, we stand on the brink of endless possibilities, ready to tackle new challenges, explore new avenues, and make an even greater impact on our community. Here's to many more chapters filled with shared experiences and growth, as we stand fearless of what is yet to come across these eras.
