What is the most important lesson you learned at HMC?

I learnt that it is important for us to be open to the various pathways available in terms of our studies and to
be understanding of other people’s perspectives. I started foundation at HMC with the intention of pursuing
a psychology degree but as I progressed through the course, I discovered my natural inclination towards
mathematics. With support from my calculus lecturer, Mr. Nelson, I eventually decided that a data analytics
degree would best suit my interests and skillsets.

If you could only use one word to describe HMC, what would it be?

Fun! I truly enjoyed my experience in HMC despite the ups and downs. One of the most memorable experiences
would be facilitating the leadership camp in Ulu Yam. I learnt so much about myself, fostered my leadership
skills, and got to know many juniors. It challenged myself to do things I thought were beyond my capabilities and
made my foundation year a fun and rewarding experience.

What is your future plan? FAMEHALLOF

The most likely outcome after graduation would be to join the working world and climb the corporate ladder, 111 HMC Yearbook 2020
working 8-hour days for the majority of my life. Some may argue that life is so predictable and rudimentary, but
I suppose I find peace and stability from these routines. The future is never set in stone, but I will continue to be
open to new opportunities that arise.

What is the most important lesson you learned at HMC?

I'd say the realization that the lecturers and coursework really aim to help us grow. HMC lecturers are incredibly
helpful, and they really do go the extra mile to assist you, given that you approach them first. I've met and had
so many wonderful interactions with HMC lecturers, some even giving me opportunities beyond coursework
requirements. Other than that, the coursework and assignments often require heavy application of life skills.
These really did equip me with important skills such as critical thinking (extra helpful for literally everything),
public speaking, interpersonal skills etc, helping me grow tremendously as a person.

If you could only use one word to describe HMC, what would it be?

Transition. Not only does HMC provide a healthy and supportive environment for students to transition from
teenager to adult, it also does an excellent job at preparing us for degree. As I already was equipped with critical
thinking skills, research writing skills etc, I never had to go through the struggle of learning APA formatting, or
having to get used to the many assignments.

What is your future plan? FAMEHALLOF

I have plans to progress into clinical psychology, life coaching, or counselling in the future. However, it's not a 113 HMC Yearbook 2020
fixed goal yet, and I still am exploring my choices and interests. In the meantime, I have launched a blog centered
around personal development in hopes of being able to help others with my knowledge and research. If it goes
well, this might be part of my future career!

What is the most important lesson you learned at HMC?
The most important lesson that I have learned at HMC is the importance of taking initiative. I have learned to be
brave and ask questions whenever I do not understand a topic. I have learned to seek guidance from teachers
whenever I come across a tough problem. Many of my achievements were possible only because I remembered
to take initiative and be responsible for my own learning.

If you could only use one word to describe HMC, what would it be?
Strengthening.

What is your future plan? FAMEHALLOF

I plan to further my studies by working towards a degree in software engineering. I have learned that I enjoy 115 HMC Yearbook 2020
programming, creating useful applications, and solving technical problems that may arise during the coding
process. I have always viewed technological advancement in cyberspace as something interesting from a very
young age, so it is my hope that by pursuing this field, I am able to contribute to the construction of a better
cyberspace for everyone to use.
