Meta Reviews(Top games of the year)Doom The Dark Ages 6
One of the most inventive twists in Doom: The Dark Ages is how it handles its arsenal, with every weapon paired with a “sister” counterpart that shares the same ammo type and can be hot swapped with a single button press. Alongside the rocket launcher sits a grenade launcher, while the Pulverizer, which spreads damage across groups, is complemented by the Ravager, which focuses firepower on single targets. This system creates a gunplay experience bursting with variety, encouraging experimentation not because it’s required, but because it’s so much fun. Even more impressive, and a testament to Id’s consistently brilliant weapon design, is that every gun remains useful throughout the entire campaign. Early-game staples continue to matter once upgraded, whether it’s igniting enemies with a combat shotgun to harvest armor shards, using the Ravager to bleed health pickups, or hurling a shield into a foe and detonating it to send bullets ricocheting into surrounding demons. Sure, I had my favorites the Super Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, and Steelshot but the genius of The Dark Ages is that nothing in your arsenal ever feels obsolete. For more than three decades, Doom has stayed at the top of the first-person shooter world by constantly redefining what it means to be a one-man army against Hell’s legions. From the original run-and-gun classics, to the atmospheric horror of Doom 3, to the blistering modern revival in 2016, and the high-speed, mobility-focused chaos of Doom Eternal in 2020, each entry has pushed the series in bold new directions. Doom: The Dark Ages, however, feels like an entirely different beast. At first, its slower, heavier movement, absence of the familiar double jump and airdash, and overwhelming open-field battles with swarms of enemies left me hesitant. But a few hours into its 20-plus hour campaign, as my arsenal grew and my strategies deepened, I began to see the brilliance in its design. By the end, I was grinning ear to ear like a Doomguy clutching a freshly loaded Super Shotgun thrilled by yet another reinvention that proves why Doom still reigns supreme.DOOM THE DARKAGES7

The tournaments themselves are spectacles, with mind-blowing production that includes real-time overlays, crowd cams, player heart rate monitors, and shoutcasters who inject color and energy into every play. Cosplay contests add another layer of immersion, as fans bring their favorite characters to life on stage. Game Care(Tips to Have a Safe Gaming Experience)To protect your eyes while gaming, follow the 20-20-20 rule every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds to give your eyes a break, reduce dryness, and ease fatigue. Since gamers tend to blink less when focused, make a conscious effort to blink more, and if your eyes feel dry or itchy, take a short break or splash water on your face. Posture is equally important: sit upright in a chair with back support, keep your knees at a right angle with feet flat on the floor, and rest your wrists comfortably without bending them too high or low. Avoid lying on the bed or sitting cross-legged for long sessions, and if you’re gaming on mobile, use a phone holder or controller to prevent neck strain and thumb stress. Breaks are just as crucial for your mind as for your body, so after every 45–60 minutes of gaming, take 5–10 minutes to stretch, walk, hydrate, and rest your eyes, which boosts focus, performance, and mood. Finally, avoid gaming while charging your phone or laptop as excess heat can harm your device and strain your hands, and if playing at night, always enable Night Mode or a blue light filter to minimize eye strain and protect your sleep cycle.Gaming is exciting and immersive, but like any screen activity, too much of it can affect your health, so the key is not to stop gaming but to play smart. Experts recommend that teens and young adults should limit casual gaming to 1.5 to 2 hours per day, while competitive players or streamers can extend sessions to 3–4 hours only with planned breaks in between, since playing non-stop for more than an hour increases the risk of eye strain, headaches, neck pain, and poor posture. Mobile gamers often hold their phones too close, which stresses the eyes and brain, so maintaining a safe viewing distance of 14–16 inches (35–40 cm), about the length of your forearm, is essential, while laptop gamers should ideally keep 20–30 inches (50–75 cm) between their eyes and the screen, with their gaze naturally falling at the top third of the display when sitting upright. Additionally, always play in a well-lit room to reduce sharp contrast between the screen and surroundings, and avoid gaming in the dark, as it forces your eyes to work harder, especially against bright screens. The 20-20-20 Rule, Posture & Screen Safety32

From Science Fiction to RealityIt has been a long journey, starting from imagining augmented reality as a science fiction concept to turning it into a science-based reality. Until recently, buying AR devices or experiencing them was considered a luxury. Today, however, augmented reality can be experienced using one of the simplest devices available— the smartphone.Definition and FunctionalityAugmented reality is essentially a real-time image superimposed with computer-generated elements through advanced technology. It replicates people’s perception of the real world by blending threedimensional and digital components. According to TechTarget, “Augmented reality (AR) is the integration of digital information with the user’s environment in real time.” By enhancing the real world with digital overlays, AR provides individuals with a more immersive and realistic experience, even while momentarily disconnecting them from their immediate environment.Meta Quest 2META QUEST VIRTUAL REALITY (VR)
Early History of Virtual and Augmented Reality Believe it or not, Virtual and Augmented Reality as we know it has been around for decades. In fact, the roots of these technologies go back nearly two centuries. In 1838, Charles Wheatstone invented the stereoscope, which allowed viewers to look at two similar images and experience a 3D effect. Later, in 1961, the Philco Corporation expanded on Heilig’s design and created the Headsight, a motion-tracking head-mounted display capable of capturing images. The Headsight was designed primarily for military use, allowing remote viewing of potentially dangerous environments without risking human lives.Where Virtual and Augmented Reality Stand Today All this history has led us to the present, where Virtual and Augmented Reality have become some of the most exciting technologies of our time. With rapid advancements in hardware and software, VR and AR are now applied across numerous industries. From training simulations and interactive models to communication tools and entertainment, these technologies are helping organizations explore new methods, enhance user experiences, and push the boundaries of innovation.45
Current Applications of Augmented RealityToday, Google Classroom and HUDs (Heads-up displays) in car windshields are two of the most prominent examples of AR applications in everyday life. Beyond these, Augmented Reality is being integrated into industries such as healthcare, public safety, gas and oil, tourism, and marketing, where it continues to expand its potential and impact.AR and VR: Transforming Human Interaction with TechnologyAugmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are rapidly evolving technologies that have revolutionized the way we interact with both digital content and the physical world. AR overlays digital elements onto real-world settings, enriching user perception and interaction with their environment. VR, in contrast, immerses users entirely into a simulated environment, creating a strong sense of presence and enabling fully interactive experiences.Growth and Applications Across IndustriesOver the years, AR and VR technologies have advanced significantly in terms of hardware, software, and user experience design. The Common Question About the MetaverseThe first thought that comes to many people’s minds when they hear the word metaverse is: “How is the metaverse different from gaming?” If you share the same question, this blog aims to help you clearly understand the distinction between the two concepts. The Many Interpretations of the MetaverseAccording to tech leaders like Mark Zuckerberg and Satya Nadella, the metaverse represents the future of the internet. Others see it as a type of video game, or even as a less appealing version of Zoom. The truth is that the definition of the metaverse is still evolving, and its meaning often changes depending on who you ask.Meta’s Role and the Erosion of the TermIt has been over a year since Facebook rebranded itself as Meta and declared its vision of the future centered on the metaverse. Since then, the term has lost much of its clarity. For instance, Meta is working on building a VR social platform, Roblox is empowering creators with user-generated games, and other companies are offering incomplete digital worlds tied to NFTs.The Shift in Tech and the Metaverse HypeWhile big tech companies have begun shifting their investments toward generative AI, much of the marketing hype and financial resources have already been directed at promoting the metaverse. In Facebook’s case, the push for the metaverse is closely tied to its financial challenges, especially after Apple’s restrictions on ad tracking hurt its revenue. The idea of everyone having a digital wardrobe in the metaverse, therefore, cannot be separated from Facebook’s strategy of profiting from virtual goods.Who Benefits From the Metaverse?Facebook is not the only company that could gain financially from the metaverse hype. Other major players across the tech industry also see it as a profitable opportunity, further blurring the line between innovation and marketing-driven narratives.Metaverse47
Training Like Pro Athletes with VRKeke Palmer and former NFL pro athlete Andrew Hawkins demonstrate how VR, AR, and MR technologies are revolutionizing athletic training. By immersing athletes directly into virtual plays, these technologies allow them to prepare for action in a realistic and interactive way, bridging the gap between physical performance and digital simulation.Seriously, What Does “Metaverse” Mean? The term metaverse is often vague and difficult to define. A simple exercise can highlight this: replace the word metaverse with cyberspace in a sentence, and in most cases, the meaning barely changes. That’s because the term doesn’t point to one specific technology, but rather to a broader, often speculative shift in how humans interact with technology. It’s even possible that the word metaverse itself may fade away, while the technologies it describes become an everyday reality. The Technologies Behind the MetaverseBroadly speaking, the technologies most often linked to the metaverse include virtual reality (VR), which is defined by persistent virtual worlds that continue to exist even when users log off, and augmented reality (AR), which blends digital elements into the real world. However, the metaverse doesn’t necessarily require VR or AR headsets. For instance, virtual worlds like certain aspects of Fortnite—accessible through PCs, consoles, or even smartphones—are now being branded as part of the metaverse. Is the Metaverse Just Gaming? The confusion around the metaverse stems from the fact that many of its descriptions sound similar to what already exists. World of Warcraft is a persistent world where players can trade goods. Fortnite has hosted virtual concerts and interactive exhibits, including one where Rick Sanchez could learn about Martin Luther King Jr. With an Oculus headset, users can step into a customizable virtual home. This raises a key question: is the metaverse really something new, or is it simply an evolution of video games with expanded social and interactive elements?48
Introduction to Digital Design & UX in Gaming Digital design and user experience (UX) are two of the most critical aspects of modern gaming, shaping how players see, feel, and interact with games.
