COBIS Primary Games 2017
Hosted by Stantonbury,
a member of the Griffin Schools Trust
As we come together for the COBIS Games, held in the UK for the first time
this year, COBIS is reminded of the commitment to nurture, develop and
recognise student talent and achievement both within the classroom and
through a range of exciting extra curricula activities.
The COBIS Games is the perfect example of this commitment in action. All
participants are set to enjoy the competitive spirit of the Games, which
provides the perfect opportunity for teams to strive for success and
showcase their individual and collective talents.
We are delighted to welcome students, team leaders and parents from
COBIS schools from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East to the UK. All
connected to the Games fully appreciate the level of commitment shown by
all competitors and coaches whilst training and preparing for the Games.
With this in mind, the energy of the Games will be high and shared equally
between spectators, officials and competitors alike.
As the COBIS Games grows, it becomes increasingly clear that this event is
not possible without the dedication and commitment of our hosts and
organisers. I hope you will join me in thanking the staff at Stantonbury for
welcoming us to their campus and the team at COBIS Head Office for
organising such a professional and well-spirited tournament.
Finally, on behalf of the growing family of COBIS schools across 78
countries and 5 continents, all good wishes for the Games ahead – a truly
exciting tournament!
Colin Bell
COBIS CEO
It is a personal pleasure and privilege to welcome the
COBIS Primary Games to Stantonbury on behalf of the
Griffin Schools Trust.
Both the COBIS and GST families of schools share
many of the same values: all-round excellence in
education, challenge for every individual and the
celebration of diversity. Participation in international
sporting events is a wonderful way for students to
demonstrate all these.
So I wish all our guests an enjoyable stay in
Stantonbury and three memorable days of competition
and friendship
Jennifer Bray
Chair, Griffin Schools Trust
Member of the Board of COBIS
The Griffin Schools Trust is delighted to be
hosting the COBIS Primary Games at
Stantonbury for this first year that the Games
are being held in the UK.
GST is a family of schools which offers an
independent-style education in the state-
funded sector in the UK. Our schools are very
individual but share a strong family
resemblance, built on our three pillars of
Proud Traditions, Wide Horizons and High
Achievement. Our annual arts and sports
festivals are just two of those traditions.
We are very grateful to GST and COBIS staff
who have worked so hard together to organise the Games. Special thanks are
owed to our Director of Sport, Sarah Collings, and our Development Director,
Marissa Davis, as well as Catriona Lawless and Sakina Zafar at COBIS.
To be hosting the COBIS Primary Games this year is both a pleasure and an
honour. What an opportunity for students from so many countries to meet in
sporting competition, to applaud victories generously, to be graceful in defeat
and to learn from each other about the very different communities in which
they live and go to school. They have in common a very exciting challenge: GST
and COBIS students are all world citizens to whom the future belongs.
Liz Lewis
Griffin Schools Trust Joint CEO and Founding Member
British International School, Cairo
All the BISC students are eagerly anticipating the Primary COBIS Games in
April, so much so they were all willing to sacrifice the first week of their
Easter holidays to attend the event. The School has attended three
previous Primary Games - in The Netherlands, Abu Dhabi and Kazakhstan
- and four of the team took part the competition last year, each one being
memorable in their own way.
We would like to thank the organisers for arranging this opportunity for
the students to experience the unique atmosphere of a COBIS Games.
British International School, Riyadh

their first Primary COBIS Games. The students have been working hard

excited about competing against a range of international schools and
making new friends from all over the world.

meet and compete with the other teams from around the world in the spirit
of friendship and fair play.
International School of Moscow
The International School of Moscow was founded in 2007 and has been
competing in the COBIS Games since 2013. Last year our teams performed
extremely well in both Dubai and Astana and had 2 top 5 finishes in the

last year with many of last year’s primary team now making up the
secondary team. We also welcome some brand new pupils for their first
