The Mighty Mountain Peaks of
Himachal Pradesh

If a tourist is seeking solitude and fun, or if a naturalist wants to
breat he t he fresh arom a of t he m ount ain air, or an advent ure
junkie wants to enjoy trekking, Himachal Pradesh is the place to
be in India. T he most famous mountain ranges that pass through
Himachal Pradesh are the Dhauladhar Ranges, T he Great
Himayalan Range and the long Pir Panjal Range. T he largest of
the lesser Himalayan ranges is the Pir Panjal range which
contains many passes such as the Rohtang pass near Manali. T he
Pir Panjal range also contains many high altitude glaciers.

T he range of the Himalayan mountains which separates Lahaul
and Spiti in India from T ibet is the Zaskar range. T he Zanskar
range consists of peaks which are higher than 65 00 meters such
as the Shilla ( 7026 m) and the Reo Purgyil ( 679 1 m) peaks. T he
following is the list of the most famous peaks of Himachal
Pradesh which are open for mountaineering expeditions.

Himalayan mountains.

Kinnaur Kailash Peak ( 65 00 m or 2 132 0 f t) - In the Kinnaur
district or the Kailash district of Himachal Pradesh, there is a
peak known as the Kinnaur peak or the Kinnaur Kailash Peak and
this peak is the highest peak in the Kinnaur Kailash Range and is
also the tallest one there with an altitude of 65 00 m. One of the
toughest treks in India, known as the Charang La Pass trek goes
from this area.
Indrasan Peak ( 62 2 0 m, 2 04 01 f t) - Once you cross the Hampta
pass and get a first glance of the Indrasan peak, then you will
know the glorious reason why this peak is known as Indrasan
peak or the Aasan of Indra, meaning the throne of the rain god of
Indian my thology. Indrasan peak is considered to be the world’s
fif th most technical summit peak and was considered to be a
virgin peak by mankind till 19 60.
Deo Tibba Peak (6001 m, 19683 ft) - The Deo Tibba Peak in the
marvellous Kullu valley is at an altitude of 6001 meters. If you
are a mildly experienced mountain climber then you should
attempt to climb this peak to gain experience in the art and
sport of mountaineering and mountain climbing. T he Deo T ibba
trek has magnificent views of the Deo T ibba peak and is a really
fun and adventurous trek. T here are many resorts in Himachal
Pradesh in the Kullu valley that give access to the Deo T ibba
t rek.
Hanuman Tibba Peak (5860 m, 19220 ft) - This beautiful
Himalayan peak named af ter the Hindu god Hanuman is at an
altitude of 19 2 2 0 feet and is a very technical summit . T he
location of this peak is near Manali. T he look of this magnificent
peak is different from each side as it is shaped like a pyramid
with a steep slide climb on all sides making it a very tough
summit to achieve.

Shitidhar Peak (5290 m, 17 351 f t) - In the higher Himalayan
mountain ranges, the Shitidhar peak is a wondrous slow clad
peak which serves as a training ground for bigger expeditions for
mountaineering students who plan to take up bigger and more
difficult peaks in the near future. T he name of this peak,
‘Shitidhar’, comes from ‘Shiti’ meaning sharp and ‘Dhar’ meaning
‘Edge’. T he famous trekking peaks lying nex t to the Shitidhar
peak are the Ladhaki and the Manali trekking peaks.
