Instructions to Student
1. Please ensure that your brief submissions are clearly and correctly labelled. Your
submission folder must be named as follows: Module Code – Brief number –
Student Number.
2. Remember to keep backups of all submitted briefs and deliverables.
3. All brief portfolios must be submitted through Turnitin2 as well as a designated
SharePoint folder.
4. All brief requirements must be approved by your lecturer before designs are
developed.
5. All work must be seen and signed off by the lecturer before submission.

Learning Objective
• Develop and design web safe artwork.
• Demonstrate the ability to select and apply a range of typographic techniques to resolve
visual communication problems for graphic design.
• Develop an understanding of digital techniques, and their suitability to various contexts
and platforms.
• Show a clear understanding of industry standard web safe fonts.
• Demonstrate an understanding of key terminologies in typography and illustration,
principles and theories of visual literacy, communication design for graphic design.
Brief Topic
A digital catalogue is a computer file or website used to provide examples of a person’s
work or products offered by a business in a digital format. These are often provided
through a combination of graphical images, such as pictures of a product, along with text
that offers descriptions and additional information.
A digital product catalogue is online or offline marketing material for all the products an
enterprise has or wants to sell to customers designed to display relevant product details
that help buyers make informed purchase decisions. An online product catalogue contains
all the products, neatly organized with product details, in order to help potential customers,
make a purchase decision. An online product catalogue is usually published on the
organization’s website however, it can be shared and downloaded to use offline.
Scope
You are required to design an interactive product e-catalogue which will be published
online on InDesign. This e-catalogue must consist of all the products from the Camping
and Outdoor department. Your interactive catalogue should be no longer than 4 pages
including a cover page, presented in published online in InDesign Similarly to brief one,
you are required to conceptualise a theme with a typographic title to advertise the
department. The e-catalogue should be typographically well designed and careful
consideration is to be taken with regards to web safe font choice. In addition, make sure to

include at least one of these interactive elements (but not limited to) links, animated type
and videos to make your e-catalogue interactive. See Examples below.

• Proof of competitor online product catalogue solutions. This may take the form of a
mood board or presentation.
• Proof of research into online catalogue trends. Presentation with visual examples of
each trend.
• Research on web-safe fonts and online published catalogue layouts.
Minimum Roughwork Requirements
• Supply at least 5 different layout scamps, of which one will be selected for final
execution.
• Supply at least 3 different typographic title scamps, of which one will be selected for
final execution.
• Supply at least 5 font parings

Remember that this is a typography brief, so emphasis is placed on your ability to
demonstrate the your knowledge and application of typographical design elements such as
typeface, hierarchy, contrast, consistency, alignment, white space, and colour.
