Given the required knowledge of the English Curriculum, most teachers are British nationals with several years of teaching experience in the UK and often also in an international setting. All hold university degrees and Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent as a minimum. A Shrewsbury teacher is more than the sum of their qualifications though. Our staff demonstrate outstanding professionalism and dedication. Through two decades we have built on and advanced the legacy and 470-year heritage of the Shrewsbury name, and cemented our reputation as one of the finest schools in Asia.

KEY STAGE 3 Key Stage 3 marks a big change for students, moving from a principally ‘home class’ environment to now experiencing each and every subject in specialist spaces with specialist subject teachers. Students study 14 separate subjects throughout Key Stage 3. The curriculum is broad, and while there remains a heavy emphasis on the core subjects (English, Mathematics, and Science), students also experience 11 other subjects throughout Key Stage 3. This embeds a flexible and wideranging set of skills and knowledge for students to draw on and apply across their learning going forward. At Shrewsbury, we do not seek to accelerate or condense this process for students. It is an important time for them to grow as responsible, reflective, and confident young people; for them to develop their academic passions and to understand their strengths, and then to be able to approach the GCSE and A-level years that follow with the confidence to make their own choices about where they want their education to take them. In every 2-week cycle, students will study the following lessons: • English (7) • Maths (7) • Science (7/9) • Thai (5) • MFL (4/5) (or English Plus) • PE (4) • Learning for Life (PSHE) (3) • Art (4/3) • Computing (3) • DT (4/3) • Drama (3) • Geography (3) • History (3) • Music (3) KEY STAGE 4 (IGCSE) Year 10 marks the start of the 2 year International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme, culminating in public examinations at the end of Year 11. Some subjects (such as science) actually start delivering their syllabus content in Year 9. All students are required to complete the core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Science (Co-ordinated or Separate sciences). Some students may also complete English Literature and Further Mathematics. In addition, students choose 5 subjects from a list of 17 possible options. Shrewsbury students will typically complete Key Stage 4 with 8-11 IGCSE qualifications. Core Subjects (lessons per 2 week cycle): • English (10) • Maths (7) • Science (12) Subject Options: 5 of the following (5 lessons per 2-week cycle). (Thai students must choose Thai as one option). • Art • Business Studies • Computer Science • Drama • Economics • Geography • History • Music • PE • Thai* • French • Mandarin • Japanese • Spanish • Global Perspectives Alternative Qualifications (instead of an option subject): • Higher Project Qualification • Thai Second Language Non-examined provision (lessons per 2 week cycle) • Physical Education (3) • Learning for Life - PSHE (2) YEARS 7–11 Entry Age (31st Aug) Tuition Fees* Typical Class Sizes Staffing and Ratio Shape of the Day Year 7 11+ 862,200 20–22 Subject specialist for every lesson (with individual learning and English support as necessary) 07:30 - 07:50 Registration /Form Time 07:50 - 2:40 6 lesson day 3:00 - 4:00 / After School Activities 4:00 - 5:00 (min 1 per week) Year 8 12+ Year 9 13+ Year 10 14+ 1,104,900 Year 11 15+ 736,600** *THB/year 2023/24 Academic Year. **Two terms payable instead of the usual three. KEY STAGE 5 (A LEVEL) Years 12 & 13 (“Sixth Form”) represent the pre-university, Advanced Level (A level) programme of the English National Curriculum. Students choose up to 4 subjects, each allocated 11 periods within a 10-day cycle. Most universities require completion of at least 3 A-level subjects, and identify 1 or 2 specific subjects as pre-requisite of entry to specific undergraduate programmes. Subject options available at A level are: • Art & Design • Biology • Business • Chemistry • Computing • Drama • Economics • English Literature • French • Geography • History • Japanese • Mandarin • Mathematics • Further Mathematics • Music • Music Technology • Psychology • Physical Education • Physics • Spanish In addition to their subjects, student participate in our critical thinking programme, “Reading the World”, building important research, discussion, and debating skills. They will also receive preparation for the International English Language Testing System qualification; part of the entrance criteria to many universities around the world. Plus non-examined core provision: Physical Activity (optional) Reading the World, IELTS preparation Additional Option (non-timetabled): Extended Project Qualification HIGHER EDUCATION COUNSELLING Sixth Form students receive a personalised programme of Higher Education counseling, allowing them to make fully informed decisions about university options that best fit their needs and aspirations. Our goal is to make the process of moving on to university as simple and as streamlined as possible, allowing students to concentrate on their A level studies, and achieve grades needed to access world-leading universities. Students benefit from a team of dedicated and award-winning Higher Education advisors who work closely with the pastoral and academic teams to ensure that each student is given the best opportunity to study their preferred programme at their preferred institution. THE SIXTH FORM CENTRE The brand new purpose-designed Sixth Form Commons provides over 4,000sqm of meeting, study and recreational space for our A level students. It is a state-of-the-art learning environment that facilitates both independent and collaborative learning styles, and ‘space to think’ in every sense. Occupying the top floors of the Innovation Building and enjoying wide views of both the city and river, the Sixth Form Commons is the perfect environment to complete a Shrewsbury eduction, and to hone a range of leadership and soft skills that allow students to thrive at university and beyond. ENHANCING THE CURRICULUM House activities, assemblies, school trips, community events, workshops, and presentations will serve to enhance the curriculum provision across Senior School. RESIDENTIAL TRIPS Residential Trips are an integral part of both the academic and pastoral programmes. Annual trips are mandatory for Years 7-10. They are designed to diversify from daily school life and foster a variety of skills and experiences that forge friendships, develop a Year group identity and enable re-connection with the natural environment and local communities. Each trip has a different core focus, designed to enhance the academic curriculum and provide opportunities for personal and social development. Students learn to lead and to work as part of a team as they develop initiative and problem-solving skills. Presentations and performances during the evening sessions develop students’ communication skills. ACTIVITIES PROGRAMME Over 500 after school activity sessions take place every week across the school. From orchestra to football, service work to robotics, students have a chance to participate and lead in a variety of domains. These opportunities can help contextualise and to reinforce learning in the classroom, and further develop communication, collaboration, and leadership skills. They also help to bring balance to a student’s school experience, serving to enhance their well-being and in doing so, benefiting their academic performance. At Shrewsbury, we see the co-curriculum as complementary to academic studies and an essential part of daily life. Participation in activities outside the classroom is vital for students to be able to write compelling essays for university applications and demonstrate that they are wellrounded individuals who can bring interest, experience, and perspectives to their learning from beyond the classroom environment. ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT Shrewsbury’s 60+ weekly academic enrichment activities provide an opportunity to re-inforce, apply and extend classroom learning. In addition to regular scheduled activities, the enrichment programme may also provide opportunities to represent the school in national, regional or global forums and competitions, and will regularly be supplemented by workshops and seminars with specially guests who are experts in their fields. RECREATION AND HOBBY Within the You-Time programme, students have a range of activity options, allowing them to pursue personal interests, and enjoy being with each other. These include creative arts, musical, performance, lifestyle, and participatory exercise and sports. MUSIC Music is a flagship for Shrewsbury, and we are renowned for staging musical concerts and recitals of the highest quality. The programme includes opportunities to perform individually or as part of auditioned or non-auditioned ensembles, whilst over 700 private instrumental and voice lessons are provided every week. We attract specialist music teachers from around the world who instill a love of music-making within our students. Some students progress to world-class conservatory programmes and careers as professional musicians; others develop a lifelong love of singing and playing. Many simply enjoy making music on a more casual basis; an appreciation which we hope to develop through our curriculum music provision for all until Year 9, and which then may be pursued at IGCSE or A Level. DRAMA From the first days at school, children in our Early Years classes find their voice through singing, dancing, and acting. As they get older, pupils progress to class-led assemblies, performance poetry, whole-year group productions, and auditioned performances to packed houses in the Memorial Hall. The annual Senior School production, which alternates between a traditional play and musical show, is the centrepiece of the drama calendar, and brings together performers from across the Senior School. The curriculum study of Drama and Theatre (from Year 7), and the opportunity to perform at all age levels, helps to develop valuable transferable skills that benefit learning in other areas of the curriculum, and beyond. BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

SPORT We aim to inspire and support every pupil on their sporting journey by helping them become confident, well-rounded performers and providing them with the tools they need to excel in their sport. The school’s sporting framework embraces the progression from participation to performance and is built around up-todate research surrounding youth athletic development. This pathway allows us to offer outstanding opportunities for all of our students and develop both physical and personal qualities. Ultimately, the goal is to allow students to achieve their desired level of health, fitness and performance during and after school, and (we hope) a lifelong passion for physical activity. Participation in our Strength and Conditioning programme - in a world class gym facility and run by a team of specialist coaches - allows students to progress their sporting development to the highest level, perhaps (in the form of college scholarships) as a means of also progressing their academic opportunities beyond school. INTERNATIONAL AWARD Shrewsbury is an accredited Independent Award Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh International Award; one of the most popular activities for students in Y10-13. The award has three levels; Bronze (Y10), Silver (Y11) and Gold (Y12/Y13). Most Year 10’S complete the Bronze award, with some of the associated sections incorporated into the annual Y10 residential trip. Many students progress to Silver and Gold levels beyond. Each award level comprises 4 sections: service, skill, physical recreation and everyone’s favorite - the adventurous journey! At each level, there is a requirement to complete two adventurous journeys; a practice and an assessed journey. In addition, Gold participants also take part in individual residentials. OUTREACH Shrewsbury’s Outreach Programme centres on three main domains, with related activities - many run by students through the after school activities programme that utilise and enhance their classroom education: • Community Engagement • Sustainability • Entrepreneurship Whether building a house for a person in need, planting mangroves, or teaching English to young children from deprived areas, students learn the value of giving their time and expertise to others and to their community. HOUSE SYSTEM The House system is a key aspect of our strong overall school provision. All children will be placed into one of six houses when they enter the school and will remain in that house throughout their time at Riverside. Each House is named after a Nobel Peace Prize winner, reflecting both the school’s international nature and the organisational value of care and compassion. The House system is about much more than simply collecting House points. It is a community within a community. Our younger students look up to the older students as role models whilst it gives our older students a sense of responsibility and leadership. Through the various events and initiatives, the House system fosters engagement, competition, spirit and togetherness.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION Once they leave Shrewsbury, all students become life members of Shrewsbury Bangkok’s Alumni Association (SISBAA), and a lasting part of the Shrewsbury family. During their time in the Sixth Form, current students will have regular opportunities to connect with former students both through formal events (such as careers days, sports events, or alumni concerts), and the many informal occasions that alumni visit the school to simply catch up with old friends and teachers. Shrewsbury alumni are always keen to share their first-hand experiences of university and the world of work beyond, and this is a hugely valuable resource for current students as they choose their own pathways going forward. It also serves as inspiration as to where a Shrewsbury education can ultimately lead. PARENTS IN PARTNERSHIP Strong communities and successful learning journeys are built on relationships. At Shrewsbury, our students’ progress and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do; a priority that is shared by both the school and by our parents, and that can only be assured when we work in close partnership with each other.. Through strong communication - engagement, collaboration and information-sharing between the school and home - we ensure that the expectations and needs of our families are met throughout their time at Shrewsbury. We use a variety of formal and informal channels, including; • Parent–Teacher Consultations • Reports • Parent attendance at community events, celebrations, competitions and performances • Parent in Partnership Workshops (learning specific) • Tea and Topics Presentations (general interest) ADMISSIONS We are a selective school. Age-appropriate entrance assessments determine whether a child is ready for the transition into their year group. In Early Years the assessment (inclduing parent interview) gauges whether a child is “school ready”. In older year groups, a student’s ability to access our curriculum is gauged through cognitive tests and interview, and may be supplemented by additional English proficiency assessments. For A level entry, subject-specific assessments are completed. We strongly encourage applications at least 1 year in advance in order to be considered within the main assessment window for the respective age group. ACCREDITATION Shrewsbury demonstrates its commitment to high quality international education through its accreditation by the Council of International Schools (CIS).
