CHAPTER 2: The Contribution Of Le
Tour De Langkawi To The Sports

Industry, Tourism And The National
Economy

10

BEFORE: The sports industry did not grow because there was no involvement from 1. The Contribution Of Le Tour
foreign countries and no success. The Malaysian sports industry cannot be like a foreign De Langkawi To The Sports
country that works hand in hand with other countries to ensure the excellence of an event Industry
and its success. Therefore, the sports industry in Malaysia did not grow very fast when
the Le Tour de Langkawi event was first held. FIGURE 10:
Annual Sports Event ‘Le Tour De Langkawi’
DURING: When Malaysia becomes the host, this proves that Malaysia is capable of
developing the sports industry like other countries. LTDL is able to develop the sports ACCESSION NO:
industry as a result of the involvement of foreign countries and the success of 2014/0018233W
international cooperation. Malaysia is working with other countries to ensure the success
of this cycling event. In addition, this league tournament can attract more countries to
participate and watch it, as well as make this sporting event comparable to other sports.

AFTER: After the event is over, the sports industry can be developed. This is due to the
involvement of foreign countries that joined it and succeeded together. Victory in this
event is shared with other countries. This shows that Malaysia can prove its ability to
host international sports. A victory by Malaysia can also bring glory to Malaysia.

11

BEFORE: Before LTDL was held, Malaysia did not get the attention of foreign countries and 2. The Contribution Of Le Tour De
Langkawi was also not recognised by other countries. In addition, Malaysia's tourism industry is Langkawi To The Tourism
becoming less developed as it is not exposed to sporting events such as LTDL, which can introduce
existing places in Malaysia to visitors from other places. FIGURE 11:
DURING: A sports event is a racing event that contributes a lot to the country, especially to the Le Tour De Langkawi End at Dataran Merdeka
country's sports tourism. The organization of the LTDL has the potential to boost sports tourism in
the country. If this is said to be the case, the LTDL can introduce the name of Malaysia to the whole ACCESSION NO:
country. Dr Mahathir said with this global exposure, Malaysia's status as one of the best holiday 2013/0021255W
destinations in the area would be strengthened. During the event, many people watched the event
regardless of the town, district, and town area that it is covered by the residents of the city or
village. Even if the event is held in one place in Malaysia, it will make the place a place known to
the public. The route used during the LTDL event was able to introduce the beauty of the area.
AFTER: The LTDL event was done, it made a lot of contributions to the country. The participating
players have made a lot of contributions, which is to get the attention of various sports as well as the
world's leading professional riders. The rapid development of LTDL helped to position Malaysia as
one of the world's top tourist destinations. The organization of LTDL in Malaysia has the potential
to make Malaysia a developed area through the country's tourism, as well as to showcase the beauty
and uniqueness of the interesting places available in Malaysia. States participating in the LTDL may
promote their state by highlighting unique locations. Most places in Malaysia have their own beauty
and uniqueness. Directly, LTDL can attract tourists to come to Malaysia to enjoy the richness of
nature. This shows the attractiveness of LTDL sports can promote Malaysia to foreign countries
widely and also encourage the arrival of tourists to our country.

12

BEFORE: Before the LTDL event was held, the country's economy was not very developed and the 3. The Contribution Of Le Tour
country was also backward. The LTDL organization has experienced financial problems throughout its De Langkawi To The National
holding to date. Malaysia is also not a focal point in the field of sports, especially LTDL. When LTDL is
not known to foreign countries, the Malaysian economy is not as developed as other countries. Because Economy
this is said to be the case, there is no flow of foreign money into the country as LTDL is not publicly
known. FIGURE 12:
‘Le Tour De Langkawi’ Annual Sports Event
DURING: When the LTDL event is held, the arrival of people especially from foreign countries who
attend this event People coming from abroad leads to the occurrence of foreign currency inflows which ACCESSION NO:
leads to the existence of foreign currency exchange. Not only that, this LTDL event also contributes to 2014/0017322W
the economic activities of the locals. Visitors incurring expenses such as accommodation, food,
souvenirs etc. This LTDL event brings many economic benefits to small traders. LTDL not only
provides an opportunity for rural senior citizens to witness the action of world riders who work hard to
ensure victory on their own court, but they themselves have the opportunity to generate additional
income when LTDL arrives in their village.

AFTER: After the LTDL event, the country received a lot of contributions especially in terms of
economy. This is because the arrival of visitors from various countries who come to Malaysia
contributes to the economy due to the flow of foreign money as well as benefiting small traders. The
LTDL event helps the Malaysian economy thrive. This has the potential to make Malaysia a country
with a developed economy.
