Partho Ghose Greetings from KHS India, and our warm wishes, albeit
Director | KHS India belated, for a ver y happy, prosperous and healthy New Year
2017 to you and all your near and dear ones!

I am happy to present this Special Edition 2016 issue of the
popular Newsletter service of KHS India.

2016 has been a very eventful and important year indeed
– both for the world and India. Britain voting to exit from
the European Union was an unprecedented event indeed,
delivering a body blow to the future of EU by defying all polls
and betting markets. Equally shocking (in terms of the world
not anticipating it) was the victory of Donald Trump in the
U.S Presidency, and not to mention, the ignominious collapse
of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) – the largest regional
trade deal in history which took 7 years to negotiate, and finally
ending up in nought. Back home, the most significant event of
2016 is bound to be the hugely controversial Demonetization
move by the present NDA Government. While the jury is out
and woefully divided on its positive impact on the country’s
economy in the long term, everyone seems to agree that
India’s GDP growth will definitely get negatively impacted in
the short term – at least up to Q2 /2017.

The effect of ‘Demonetization’ on our customers’ business
will be fully understood once the winter months fade away
and consumption of beverages like soft drinks and beer start
to pick up momentum. The fact that the new GST structure,
likely to be somewhat harsh to the carbonated soft drinks
(CSD) categor y, will not come into effect by July 2017 is a
partial relief to the CSD producers and they need to crack
that code not before the summer of 2018 kicks in.

The most significant business story of 2016 for KHS
worldwide has to be the successful introduction of the
‘Plasmax’ technology in India. The fact that this technology
was implemented in the CSD sector for the first time
anywhere in the world is a pioneering feat by itself. It was
known to be a “R&D project” right from the beginning but
the exemplary way in which KHS Germany, KHS India, Coca
Cola Atlanta and Coca Cola India (could we have asked for
a better Customer to implement a project of this nature?)

a newborn. We went through countless
iterations. In the end we finalized on
