CURRICULUM

4.1 Implementation of the Curriculum
1. Timetable
During this covid-19, many changes took place in the school system such as no more assemblies,
no more sports day that is often held every year because they do not want clusters and do not want
group activities. This, to some extent, has an impact on the school and needs to think of other
initiatives for the sake of co-curricular and curricular equality. This includes the change of students'
school sessions where in other years there is only one school session which is in the morning.
However, it had to be divided into two sessions, morning for form 3, form 4, and form 5.
Meanwhile, the afternoon session was for forms 1 and 2. Here is the daily class schedule from
Monday to Friday starting from 7.30 am to 1.50 pm while the afternoon session begins. 1.20pm to
6.40pm. The duration of every period is 30 minutes. School break time is also divided into two,
level 1 and level 2. During break time, students are asked to eat in class only with the teacher's
supervision and are not allowed to eat in the school canteen. Every Friday there will be a Yassin
reading in each class along with the first subject teacher. Only on Friday, students will return early
at 12.20 PM. I got my timetable during my first week. I teach form 3 and form 4 student for subject
art education only according to my major course.

15

2. Syllabus

Every subject has its own syllabus. Each heads of sectors will arrange the syllabus to the
respective teachers together with the scheme of works based on the yearly plan. All heads
of panel have to make sure that the respective teachers follow the syllabus in their teaching
process. In fact, the subject that is being taught at the school is according to syllabus and
guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education.

In this school, the compulsory subjets that all the students in the lower form need
to take are 8 subject which is Bahasa Melayu, bahasa Inggeris, Sejarah, Geografi, Sains ,
Matematik , Pendidikan Islam/Moral dan Pendidikan Jasmani. The elektive for form 1, 2
and 3 is asas sains komouter dan reka bentuk teknologi. How ever, for upper level which
form 4 and form 5 are little bit unique because there is 3 types of class which is science
stream, science technology and ‘Kemanusiaan’.

For science stream and science technology the compulsory subjects for them are
Bahasa Melayu, bahasa Inggeris, Sejarah, Geografi,Matematik , Pendidikan Islam/Moral
dan Pendidikan Jasmani. The elective for science stream is fizik, Biology, Kimia and
Matematik Tambahan. Elective subject for science technology is Fizik, Kimia, Matematik
tambahan dan sains komputer. For ‘Kemanusiaan’ class the compulsory subjects for them
are Bahasa Melayu, bahasa Inggeris, Sejarah, Geografi,Matematik, Sains Pendidikan
Islam/Moral dan Pendidikan Jasmani. Each of these class has their own difference elective
such as matematik tamabahan, prinsip akaun, ekonomi, perniagaan, dan pendidikan seni
visual.

16

4.2 Implementation of Co-Curriculum
co-curriculum is an educational program that includes curriculum and co-curricular
activities that cover all knowledge, skills, norms, values, cultural elements and beliefs, to
help the development of a student fully in terms of physical, spiritual, mental, and
emotional. During the Covid-19 period, school co-curricular activities were very limited.
even though schools have been opened, co-curricular activities still cannot be implemented.
Every activity implemented by the school on co-curriculum, students are required to
participate for the sake of co-curriculum marks. In SMK Shah Alam, there are 13 clubs and
societies, 7 uniform bodies, and 10 sports and games in total. For now, (Pandemic), every
curriculum activity will lead in online and there are many activities for student to
participate in order to help them get mark for curriculum. Student attendance and
participate will look through the activities that they submitted to the teacher

Conclusion

In a week of SOP, I got a lot of organization information about SMK Shah Alam, teacher
and also student. The environment of SMK Shah Alam was so good and the school was very huge
due to a lot of building. The school should be one session but due to the pandemic the operation
need to be two sessions which is morning and evening. So, the school only use for one building
for student and another side of building used for studio and lab. For the first day we came to the
school, the teacher and committee were welcoming us by greeting us and make us feel
comfortable to start a day as trainee teacher. Even though in the teacher’s room, they were very
talkative and nice to us by giving us food and many more. I feel so comfortable to be part of the
teacher in SMK Shah Alam and also very grateful that I was doing my practicum there. In
addition, whenever I seek a help from the other teachers, they are very polite and giving some
help. What I can see the committees for each program or sector are really efficient and effective.
The way their works are really professional with the responsible that assign to them. It is good to
be an example for a trainee teacher to learn how to be a good teacher. From what I can see, SMK
Shah Alam school is very concerned about education. they will make sure the students get
adequate knowledge. One example is, SMK Shah Alam is one of the best schools for the SPM
examination and also becomes the Top 10 among the best schools in Shah Alam. I am very excited
to be in a great school but they are not stingy in teaching us and giving us experience in performing
any task.

later, the students at the school had great respect for the teachers. as long as I teach there,
I have not met any students who are rude to me. The naughty students are there but they are still
listening to the word. If I passed anywhere and came across students, they would greet me. If in
terms of the language they often use is English. Probably because the school grounds are elite and
have a perfect family background. The teacher at the school said that 70% of the students of SMK
Shah Alam can speak in English. so, no wonder if that school is the best school.Lastly, I was
thankful with all staffs, teachers and also students here who really accept me as a trainee teacher
and being nice to me. Thus, they also help me to improve my experiences in teaching profession.
I received a lot of cooperation from them once I confronted with a problem and unanswered
question in this SOP week. I am much honoured to get opportunities to have experience as a
teacher.
