Placement Guide & Typical Range

Network Considerations
The recommended maximum distance between dimmers is 15m - 30m.
Be aware that building materials such as concrete and sheet steel will affect the range achievable when installed.
Other forms of interference which may affect the range include WiFi routers, microwave ovens and such sources that
emit strong signals, and these should also be taken into consideration when installing.

microwave ovens will affect the range.
Once the devices have been added to the network via the
App, the devices will start communicating within the wireless
mesh. This means that once the network is complete, all
devices are accessible from the smart device when in a 10m
range of a single point.

Device placement may offer up to 30m communication
distance. However, we recommend for indoor applications
that device placements should be no further apart than 15m.

Application Information

The setup and functionality of the HBTD200x/F series is covered in the Sensor app user guide.
Ensure the correct app is downloaded and installed.
The models are NOT supported in the Interior app and vice versa.
Further technical details beyond the scope of the user manuals are given below.
Device setting - Base settings
A common set-up screen is used for all models, although the base settings available for selection will
vary according to the Type of Light selected when adding the device to the network. The Type of
Light setting will determine which settings can be adjusted.
Push Switch Configuration
Both app guides cover fully the push switch configuration. A Single Click (shot push) is determined in
software as depressing the switch for between 0.1 to 0.5 seconds.
When the Type of Light is configured for both colour tuning and dimming, the Double Click option
shows the availability for Circadian Rhythm. This option provides manual restart of the circadian
rhythm profile, should it be interrupted using manual settings. Selecting this option will prompt to set
up the Circadian Rhythm mode if it is not already enabled.
Simple Human Centric Lighting (HBTD8200D/F DALI model only)
This mode requires the connection of DALI DT8 LED drivers used with tunable white luminaires. A
dynamic lighting scene can be created which will automatically change brightness and colour of the
lamp according to the time of day. The Circadian Rhythm can be considered as a 24-hour timer in
which the lights may be set to operate at any level of brightness or colour temperature for each hour
of the day.
The app guide covers fully setup of the Circadian Rhythm function.

Placement Guide & Typical Range

To maximise the Bluetooth transmission range in every direction, the following considerations
should be taken into account when situating the control base in the luminaire:

Figure 1

Antenna The control base contains the Bluetooth transceiver module
and is located within the device as per Figure 1.
Figure 2
When the antenna is mounted to a metallic backplane, such
Opening under antenna as a gear tray, a cut-out opening should be made as large as
possible as shown in Figure 2.
Metallic Gear Tray
If possible, try to position the sensor as far away as possible
from the LED driver or other strong sources of high frequency
interference.

Device to Device Placement Smartphone to Device Range

Concrete walls, metals and other building The range for which a smartphone can communicate with the
materials will reduce the range lighting points will vary from model to model and is dependant
on its Bluetooth capability.
Strong signal sources such as WiFi routers and
microwave ovens will affect the range Placement of the antenna within the luminaire will also effect
the smart phone communication range and may appear
different for each luminaire variant.

Other environmental factors (as per opposite) will influence
the ultimate achievable range of communication between
smart phone and luminaire device.

Device placement may offer up to 30m communication
distance. However, we recommend for indoor applications,
device placements should be no further apart than 15m.

Hardware Features

Bluetooth Transceiver Node
The HCD038/BT can either be linked to the occupancy sensor head for automated control, or take
commands from elsewhere via Bluetooth transmission. There are many ways to control the sensor:

• Use the APP for sensor parameters set-up and other advanced functions such as scheduling,
holiday mode, etc.

• DavisConnect Bluetooth wall panel HBP01 for on/off and dimming control, scene selection.
• Push switch on Bluetooth products such as dimmer HBTD8200T for on/off and dimming control.

Photocell Advance Technology (SAM20)
It is well known that LED lights have a totally different spectrum to natural light. DavisConnect uses
this principle with a custom-designed photocell and sophisticated software algorithm to measure
and differentiate natural light from LED light, so that this photocell can ignore the LED light and only
respond to the natural light.

Daylight Harvest Function
With built-in daylight sensor, the sensor can achieve daylight harvest function for energy saving
purpose. Simply activate the daylight harvest function in the App, and it will automatically adjust the
light output according to the change of natural light.

Note:
Tri-level control is also achievable. Simply choose this function on the App, daylight harvest is then de-activated.

Manual Override ('Push' terminal)
The Push terminal provides a manual override function for the end-user to switch on/off, or adjust the
light level by push-switch. Furthermore, by using the binding option in the App, entire groups of fixtures
may be wirelessly controlled by a single switch. Refer to the App user guide for further information.

Short Push ( < 1s ): Permanent on/off function; can also be configured to recall scene selection.
Long Push ( > 1s ): Brightness level adjustment or colour tuning.

Notes:
1. Both adjustment on the APP and the push switch can overwrite each other,
the last adjustment remains in memory.
2. Switch functions are configured in the App.
3. The push terminal may be left unconnected if no mutual control required.

IK Rating IK
08
The Impact Protection (IK) Rating is an international numeric classification* that
determines the degrees of protection provided by enclosures for electrical equipment Impact Protection
against external mechanical impacts. It provides a means of specifying the capacity of
an enclosure to protect its contents from such impacts.

The standard specifies the way enclosures should be mounted when tests are carried
out, the atmospheric conditions that should prevail, the number of impacts (5) and
their even distribution, and the size, style, materials, dimensions, etc. of the various
types of hammers designed to produce the energy levels required.

IP Rating

The Ingress Protection (IP) Rating classifies the degree of protection provided against the intrusion of foreign bodies such as
solid objects, dust and / or water by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures.

The AS/NZS60598.1 standard (“Section 9: Resistance to Dust, Solid Objects and Moisture”) provides requirements and tests
to determine the Ingress Protection (IP) rating of a luminaire, including electrical cable entry and exit points and their ultimate
termination, as well as an outline of the apparatus required to perform these tests.

Two digits indicate conformity with the conditions defined in the standard and are summarised in the tables attached. Where
there is no protection rating with regard to one of the criteria, that criteria is indicated by the letter “X.”

For example, an electrical socket rated IP22 is protected against insertion of fingers and will not be damaged or become
unsafe during a specified test in which it is exposed to vertically or nearly vertically dripping water. Another example is that
of a cellular phone rated at IP58 and marketed as “dust resistant” and can be “immersed in 1.5 m of fresh water for up to 30
minutes.” It should be noted that the ratings for liquid ingress are not cumulative beyond IPX6. That is to say, a device that is
IPX7 compliant (immersion in water) is not necessarily compliant with IPX6 or IPX5 (exposure to water jets.) However, if the
device is in fact compliant with both sets of conditions, then both IP ratings should be indicated. E.g. “IP66 & IP67.”
