Sports equinox brings historic

Oct. 19, 2017 was an unforgettable day in sports.
For one thing, it was rare to see the four major American sports playing on the
same night.

VIA SI
“This hasn’t happened that often—tonight is the 17th Sports Equinox, per
FiveThirtyEight—mainly because baseball playoffs now run later than usual, the
NBA’s new scheduling policy moved opening night up a week and a half, and
Thursday night football wasn’t a consistent thing until recently. All these
developments mean we’re likely in store for more of these glorious days.”

Particularly for LA, it was indeed a glorious night as the Dodgers ended a 29-year
drought.

After knocking out the defending champion Chicago Cubs in the National League
Championship Series with an 11-1 victory at Wrigley Field on Thursday, the
Dodgers are back in the World Series for the first time since 1988, when Orel
Hershiser and Kirk Gibson led the team to a dramatic upset of the Oakland A’s.

Among my peers, many were not alive to see the Dodgers’ last trip to the World
Series.

The much-anticipated debut of Lonzo Ball also arrived in Los Angeles on
Thursday night.
Unfortunately for Laker fans, Lonzo Ball looked nothing like the Summer League
MVP he was a few months ago. Ball got a harsh reality check as he was bullied all
night by Clippers’ guard Patrick Beverley (All-Defensive first team as well all
know).
If you’re a Clippers and Dodgers fan in LA, you must have been the happiest
person in the world on Thursday night. You not only celebrated the Dodgers’ trip to
the World Series, but also found hope for the Clippers as life goes on without Chris
Paul.

California’s eventful Thursday night continued in Oakland, where the Raiders
pulled off a dramatic win against the Chiefs to end a four-game losing streak.

In what was basically a must-win game, Carr found Crabtree for the game
winning touchdown, ending a nerve- racking final minute in Oakland.

It was not only a bizarre ending, but
also a game that saw Marshawn Lynch
dashing off the sideline to get in the
middle of a scuffle (for whatever
reason).

Lynch was allegedly sitting in the
stands after being ejected, then took
BART after the game.

Meanwhile out east, Oklahoma’s Big 3
made their debut on Thursday night and
performed as advertised. Melo and
George continued to score flawlessly as
they always have and Westbrook
showed that he wants another triple-
double season. Sure it was only against
the Knicks, but Thunder fans have to be
happy with the start.

And the rest of us sports fans should be
grateful for what we experienced on
Thursday night (unless your team lost).
We may not see another night like this
for a long time.
