Abortion as a Topic
This project will discuss the issues of abortion. Using my visual argument I will display
why I think abortion should be banned in all states, siding with people that are pro-life.

Rosenthal, Joe. Raising the flag on Iwo Jima. Photograph. 1945. Iwo Jima
The picture depicts the U.S. Marines raising the American flag on Iwo Jima. Right after a
decisive and hard fought victory that came before. It is an iconic image that shows a
victory that helped turned the tide of World War II. Some of the marines depicted in this
photo died shortly after due to bullet wounds. It was a very stressful time in the U.S.
many people were worried about the war and it was not an easy battle for the United
States.
Saporta Vicki. “National Abortion Federation.” Prochoice.org. 2016. Web
This website has numerous articles which go into detail about the fight of pro-
choice advocates of abortion. Including the legal issues they face from the federal and
state governments of the United States. Covering many fields of information like,
medical advancements and financial aid that is available for women seeking help with
abortion. It also explains why they do this for these women in need, and why it should be
their choice in the matter because it is their life and their body.
Scheidler, Joseph. Prolifeaction.org. 2016. Web. 27 April 2016
This is a website that is dedicated to make America a pro-life nation. Educating
teens and adults alike in the fight against abortion, holding rallies and counseling for
people looking for information. Partnered with the Planned Parenthood organization they
work together to spread the word on the tragic event known as abortion making their

presence known. Having numerous articles about where abortion stands in the U.S. today
and where it looks like it might be going in the following years.

Talking Abortion
What do you think when someone asks you about abortion? Do you immediately
refer to your moral compass as a human being and think to yourself “how could I kill an
innocent child?” Or do you think about a longer term consequence for the child like how
you may not be able to take care of the child at the moment and not be able to provide for
it leaving the baby up for adoption or letting it live in a life of poverty? Whatever way
you think can influence your matter on the subject and where you stand on abortion laws
and policies. Abortion is a very touchy subject in America because it conflicts with, not
only people’s moral compass, but their religious and life beliefs as well. It is a topic that
will always be in discussion in America for years to come, since it has to deal with such
serious conditions. There is no grey area when it comes to dealing with life or death,
which is why I feel that the issue will be argued for years without ever coming to a
common agreement. Looking at both sides of the argument, you can get a better
understanding for what pros and cons each has in their argument.
The National Abortion Federation (NAF) seems to think that abortion should be
strictly pro-choice and that it is the women’s right to choose abortion or not. They are
dedicated to their cause strengthened by their cause “Our work supports the dedicated
health care professionals who make reproductive choice a reality, as well as the women
they serve”. They argue that it is their body and that no one person should be able to tell
them what they should do with it. Offering numerous articles over topics like government
policies and financial aid, they go in-depth over the struggles that women have faced
fighting for a pro-choice America, some being insulted and degraded as they walk into
clinics in states that allow it. Many are scared to get abortions in fear of being abused and

judged because of their choice. NAF supports these women offering help with finances
and counseling for women who need someone to talk to before making the decision.
They also explain the challenges that the federation faces with not only federal
governments, but state governments as well. While some states have opened up to a more
pro-choice nation other states strictly prohibit abortion, arguing how it is murder of a
human life and that they should be punished for going through with these procedures.
They also educate readers with some of the latest technological advancements that are
available to women seeking abortion, like a new pill in development that can abort the
baby without having to go in to have an expensive and sometimes dangerous operation.
That is why NAF is there to fight for women seeking abortions offering numerous
options for help.
While NAF offers some insight on the pro-choice side of things, to truly see the
argument as a whole, you have to look at the pro-life side of things to get a better
understanding of what they think about the subject. The Pro Life Action League view
abortion through a different light. They believe in a pro-life America and are dedicated to
educating people about the potential dangers and morals of having an abortion. A cause
that is proved to be true from their quote “We will do all we can to stop the killing and
exploitation”. They are arguing that life starts at conception instead of at birth, believing
that abortion is outright killing a human being. Stating that some of the procedures that
are used to abort babies are unethical and downright unsafe for even the mother. The
PLAL asks women why they would put their lives in danger as well as their babies. Both
the pro-life and pro-choice arguments have their points to make when trying to convince
people to choose sides.
Guzman 9
While both put up a good argument, statistics show that is 2016 51% of adults
believe that abortion should be legal, 43% view otherwise. It has changed over the years.
In 2012, only 41% of people asked were pro-choice that shows that this topic will remain
up for debate for years. It may never come to a complete agreement, as many factors
influence some people’s decision. Religion, morale views, and even gender can change
and alter your point of view on the subject heavily. Many religious Christians are
completely against abortion due to the Bible’s teachings of “Thou shall not kill”, as they
believe that it is killing of an innocent life. Even gender is argued over heavily on the
subject, because some females do not believe that men can comprehend the struggle of
being pregnant and may be biased on the subject not having to deal with carrying a baby.
Or the choice to have an abortion, some other parties have even taken up sides in this
debate as well, the Feminist Party has fought for the Pro-Choice side for some time.
Many feminist call it sexist to take away women’s rights and force them to give
birth to the baby if not wanted. Whatever side you may take it is clear that this issue may
never have an end to it, simply because the topic is too controversial as life and death is a
very serious subject. Which is why I chose to talk about such a serious issue in our
country, it is a very touchy subject that many people try to avoid when brought up. No
one likes to talk about killing babies or the human right of having a choice, but just sitting
by and watching it unfold will not make it go away. While I see the logic in freedom of
choice I will not side with the pro-choice side of the argument, it is against my morale
code I believe in protecting the future of our nation and will fight for the side I think is
right. The reason I see more of the views of the pro-life side of things, is because they see
that there is life to be protected.
Guzman 10
After looking at both sides of the argument you have a good understanding on
where people stand on abortion in our nation. While I still believe that tensions will
always be high over the subject I feel that changes can be made to make some progress.
Compromises might have to be made to satisfy both sides, like putting a stricter time
restraint on how long after conception can you have an abortion, or producing universal
birth control to prevent as many unwanted children as possible. Whatever side you
choose you have to respect each side of the argument otherwise no progress will ever be
made.
