Candidate B around the house.
Candidate A
(What are other ways to reuse water?) We can collect rainwater. Gutters can be installed to
divert rainwater to a container where it can be stored. After collection, the water can be used to
water plants, do laundry and many other purposes. After all, rainwater is clean.
(What else can we do?) I agree with you. However, apart from the rainwater, we could recycle
dirty aquarium water.
(Why do you say so?) Why do you say so? I think rainwater is clean. Why would you use dirty water?
(How can we reuse water?) Instead of disposing the dirty water, we can use it for agricultural use
like watering potted plants and vegetable nurseries. As a matter of fact, the water is very good
for plants because it can act as natural fertiliser.
(Do you agree?) I see. I agree with you. We could also use wastewater from laundry cleaning. We
can collect the water and use it to clean pavements and drains around the house. Similarly, we can
also save water after washing rice.
(Why do you say so?) You are right. Rice water is rich in nutrients. Therefore, it is good to be used
to water plants.
(Do you agree?) I agree with you. Another way is to reuse unused drinking water. We can use it
to wash utensils and other household chores as it is not dirty.
(Which one would be the most practical?) Of all the ways to reuse water at home, I think the
most practical is to collect rainwater as our country rains a lot and it does not take a lot of effort
to collect rainwater.

Types of Glass That Cannot Be Recycled
Glass is a hundred percent recyclable material made from1sand, soda ash and limestone, the three natural Unit 1 (Non-Textbook Unit)
ingredients. Making new containers from recycled glass not only saves on these raw materials, but also helps
to reduce2energy consumption and carbon emissions. And the best part? No matter how many times you recycle
it, glass never loses its quality.
However, not all glass is recyclable. The most common recycled types are3brown,4green and clear glasses,
but if they are contaminated with food or dirt, then it cannot be processed at the recycling facility. In the same way,
heat-resistant glass such as5Ovenware and6Pyrex, as well as mirrors and crystal are not recyclable. The waste
facility will also discard broken glass fragments, decorative glass with multiple colours, or glass that contains metal
such as light bulbs. So, what happens to these items if they cannot be recycled? They are often7repurposed. This is
where innovation becomes useful, and some companies have found clever uses for unwanted glass.
A few companies have started to use8‘glassphalt’. Glass is crushed down into smaller pieces and smoothed
out to create a replacement for gravel or sand. This glassphalt has been used for making roadbeds in the United
Kingdom. Reusing glass in such a way has a double financial benefit; it helps removing glass from the landfills, and
saving money as it replaces the gravel in certain construction projects.

Tips to Save Money
Money management1can be boring and difficult. However, it is possible to get a head start on saving for your
future even before you step foot in the workforce. One of the easiest ways to start saving money is to keep your
spare change in a jar and not touch it until the end of the year. This way, it doesn’t feel like you are2sacrificing a
lot. Sometimes, old coins may get a high price from a coin collector!
Another popular and easy way is to collect a certain type of notes, such a RM5 note. Every time you have a
RM5 note, save it. You will unknowingly7accumulate a mountain of these green notes over time. You can also
choose another3denomination, such as RM1, RM10 or RM20 to save. You will be amazed at how much you can
save in a year.
Students can use their student ID for student4discounts8at selected stores such as entertainment joints,
retail shops and even eateries. You may feel that 10% off your bill is not much, but over time, you will notice
that these small amounts can turn to big savings.
You can choose to have a no-spend day each week and save money on food by6prepping all your meals from
home and avoid5spending money at all costs, even if it is something as small as a snack in between classes.
Answer the questions below. Choose no more than five words and/or a number from the text for each answer. Unit 2 (Textbook-Based Unit 6)
(Dotted underlined words are distractors.)
1 One should start saving money although money management can be tedious and uninteresting.

a lot .
3 Instead of keeping coins or spare change, you can also choose to keep notes of a certain denomination
such as RM1, RM5 and so on which would be accumulated over time.
4 Students can present their student ID and get discounts at selected stores .

3 When is it time to cut back on expenses?
A When tempted by a non-essential purchase.
B When you can’t save as much as you would like.
C When you realise the item bought was not needed.
Listening (Guided Practice Level 1) One of the best ways to save money1is to set a goal. Start by thinking about what you might want to save for,
(Listen with the tapescript and bold keyword) both in the short term and the long term. After that, estimate how much money you will need and how
long it might take you to save it. As a tip, set a small, achievable short-term goal for something that is fun
and goes beyond your monthly budget, such as a new phone or holiday gifts.2Reaching smaller goals and
enjoying the reward you have saved for can give you a psychological boost, enough income is saved and
reinforces the habit.
If you can’t save as much as you would like,3it might be time to cut back on expenses. Identify non-
essentials, such as entertainment and dining out, that you can spend less on. When tempted by a non-
essential purchase, wait a few days. You may realise the item was something you wanted rather than
needed—and you can develop a plan to save for it. Search for free activities by using resources such as
community listings to4find free or low-cost entertainment.
You have to determine your financial priorities. If you know you are going to need to replace your phone
in the near future, you could start putting away money for one now. Another way to save money is going for
automated transfers between your current and savings accounts in your bank.5You can choose when, how
much and where to transfer money or even split your deposit so that a portion goes directly into your
savings account.

Crazy Rich Asians
This romantic comedy-drama book was written by a Singaporean American, Kevin Kwan in 2013 and adapted
to a film in August 2013. The film was officially screened in cinemas in172018. It detailed the story of Rachel Chu
and Nick Young,18a modern day couple from America. Nick had a secret, unknown to Rachel. After asking her to
fly back to Singapore with him for a friend’s wedding, she was shocked to find out from her close friend, Peik
Lin that the Youngs were extremely wealthy and influential in19Singapore.
The trip not only gave Nick the chance to show Rachel the place he grew up but also his childhood friends
and cousins. She also had to meet his overbearing mother,20Eleanor, who disapproved of Rachel because of
their21different family status. She thought Nick could do better.
Rachel was quickly put in her place among the socialites during the bachelorette trip. Nick realised he
should have told Rachel about his family. He was also expected to take over the family business in Singapore.
Even though his mother was against it, he planned to ask Rachel to marry him.
Eleanor hired a23private investigator to look into Rachel's past. Rachel had a22shocking background.
Eleanor confronted Rachel and Nick at the wedding party because Rachel's mother had an affair before fleeing
to the US. Rachel was surprised to hear her because she thought her father was dead.
Rachel revealed to Eleanor that she had rejected Nick’s proposal because she did not want their relationship
to sour. Rachel broke up with Nick. As Rachel was boarding the plane to fly back to the States, Nick rushed there
to propose again but this time, with a ring belonging to Eleanor. This indirectly signalled Eleanor’s blessing.
Rachel and Nick celebrated their24engagement with a big party and spectacular fireworks.

What I Enjoy Doing Most

When I get new toys, I like to make unboxing videos in my free time. These videos would be25uploaded to

Six sentences have been removed from the article. Choose from the sentences (A – H) to fit each gap (35 – 40). There

For each question, mark the correct answer (A – H) on your answer sheet.
Eradicating the Use of Cars
Have you ever thought about what would happen if we didn't need cars at all? Do you agree or disagree with the
idea? I like this idea, and there are a few good reasons why.
First of all, this change would be very good for the environment. 35 E Although electric cars are available
now, they are not cheap and are not available in all countries because the whole city or town would have to be
redeveloped. 36 H Some people are so used to riding bicycles that they don't want to own a car. A bicycle is
easier to get and costs less. Plus, if you ride your bike everywhere, you will get your daily exercise.
37 B We're also running out of petrol, which isn't a permanent resource and can't be made. We need to
make special cars that can run on reusable fuels like food scraps and used cooking oil. 38 C If you must own
a car, it should be a biofuel vehicle with no highly polluting added chemicals.
Furthermore, our tax money should be used to improve the country's public transportation so that no one
needs to own a car. 39 G You don't even need a bike anymore. Building better roads and making other ways
to get around will be better than buying cars.
40 A Something big must be done to save people and all other living things on the planet. If that means
we have to stop using petrol-powered cars altogether, I'm all for it.
A Our planet is in a terrible state because of pollution and the loss of resources. (40)
B With the rising cost of petrol, owning a car is also a burden. (37)
C Garbage on the wasteland could be turned into some kind of fuel to power transportation. (38)
D You can buy bicycles everywhere.
E Cars release carbon monoxide, which pollutes the air and cause noise pollution. (35)
F The majority of accidents involve cars.
G People would walk more and indirectly be more active. (39)
H So far, bicycles are the most environmentally friendly mode of transportation. (36)

Please give me a recommendation. Thanks.

In about 80 words, write a message to Andrew giving your recommendation.
Hi Andrew,
(Introduction) First of all, girls her age are pretty grown up, so they would enjoy reading books that
interest them. I can think of one title: the Harry Potter series.
(Body) Harry Potter is a good series with a fantasy theme. It's about a boy who found out he was a wizard
and also learned the truth about his parents, which led to more scary plots and turns. The eight-book
Harry Potter series should keep your niece occupied.
(Closing/ Hope) I hope my recommendation helps to solve your problem. If you want to look for other titles,
