1. Tragedy Drama

•A genre of literature characterized by its
serious handling of sorrowful events, most
often by a heroic individual.
•The protagonist fails to achieve desired goals
or is overcome by opposing forces.
•Often ends in death

2. Comedy Drama

• Humourous / Solving
• Often ends in a marriage
• A play that treats characters and

situations in a humorous way and has

a happy ending.
• Farce : Physical (3 Stooges)

3. Melodrama

•Melodrama is formed by combining the words "melody"
from the Greek "melōidía", meaning "song") and "drama".
Originally it referred to the use of music in a play.
•A melodrama is often a play with very simple characters:
a villain, hero, heroine, policeman, damsel in distress and
an elderly person (which usually ends happily).
•Melodramas were popular in the Victorian era on the
stage and in novels.

3. Melodrama

•A sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated
characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the
emotions.

•Melodramas are typically set in the private sphere of
the home, focusing on morality and family issues,
love, and marriage, often with challenges from an
outside source, such as a "temptress", a scoundrel, or
an aristocratic villain.

•The popular soap opera Beverly Hills, 90210.

Opera in which the musical and dramatic elements
are equally important; the music is appropriate to the
action

5. Fantasy Drama

•Fantasy is a genre of speculative fiction involving magical
elements, typically set in a fictional universe and sometimes
inspired by mythology and folklore.

•Its roots are in oral traditions, which then became fantasy
literature and drama.

•The genre typically has no basis in scientific fact or speculation.
It includes implausible supernatural and magical elements, such
as the wizards of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, or the
dragons, giants, and White Walkers of George R. R. Martin's A
Game of Thrones.
