4 THE 2023 GEORGIA ORTHOPAEDIC SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING WELCOME TO THE 2023 ANNUAL MEETING OF THE GEORGIA ORTHOPAEDIC SOCIETY 2022-23 PRESIDENT Thomas L. Bradbury, MD, FAAOS Dr. Tom Bradbury is a partner with Total Joint Specialists, LLC in Cumming, Ga. A native of Woodstock, he graduated from Washington and Lee University and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and finished his training as a fellow in adult reconstruction at the OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center in Charlotte, NC. In 2007, he returned to the Atlanta area and began his practice at Emory University School of Medicine. There he served as Associate Professor, Director of the Adult Reconstruction Division and Residency Program Director for over 10 years. He has served on the AOA Council of Orthopaedic Residency Program Directors, the International Consensus Work Group on Prosthetic Joint Infection, the ABOS Question Writing Task Force, as Chair of the AAHKS Membership Outreach Committee and as President of the Atlanta Orthopaedic Society. He has been a board member for GOS since 2018 serving as Residency Program Chair. He has published numerous textbook chapters and over 50 peerreviewed articles about hip and knee replacement surgery. He continues to serve Operation Walk in San Salvador, El Salvador. He is now Chief of Surgery for Total Joint Specialists. His clinical focus centers on safe, efficient, value-based primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. He is blessed to have the support of Julie, his amazing wife of 22 years, and his wonderful children Tommy (20), Molly (18) and Brooks (18). Now with an empty nest, Tom and Julie look forward to frequent trips to Lexington VA, Athens GA and Chapel Hill NC to see what the kids are doing (even if they don’t know!!)
5 September 28 - October 1, 2023 | The Cloister | Sea Island, Georgia WELCOME TO THE 2023 ANNUAL MEETING OF THE GEORGIA ORTHOPAEDIC SOCIETY 2023 PROGRAM CHAIRMAN Walter B. McClelland, Jr., MD, FAAOS Dr. Walter McClelland is a partner and upper extremity surgeon at Peachtree Orthopedics in Atlanta, GA. A native of Atlanta, Dr. McClelland graduated from Princeton University with a BA in History, while also completing his pre-med studies. While at Princeton, Dr. McClelland was a member of the men’s cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams. Upon graduation, Dr. McClelland returned to Atlanta to pursue medical school and orthopaedic residency at Emory University. He was honored with the Joseph Whitehead Surgical Scholarship and served as Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. McClelland then pursued two fellowships: the first in hand and upper extremity surgery at The Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore, MD, the second in shoulder and elbow surgery under Professor Pascal Boileau in Nice, France. Dr. McClelland returned to Atlanta in 2012 to join Peachtree Orthopedics. His practice is an exclusive and comprehensive upper extremity practice, including all areas of shoulder, elbow, and hand surgery. Dr. McClelland has authored 26 journal articles and 5 textbook chapters and has lectured both nationally and internationally. He has served the Georgia Orthopaedic Society (GOS) as Chair of the Public Relations Committee, Member-at-Large, SecretaryTreasurer Elect, and now as Secretary-Treasurer. He has been on the GOS Board since 2018 and is a founding member of the GOS Foundation. Dr. McClelland is the Immediate Past President of the Georgia Shoulder & Elbow Society, Chair of the AAOS Shoulder & Elbow Evaluations Committee, and Associate Editor for CME at the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. He has completed leadership development programs through the American Orthopaedic Association, American Shoulder & Elbow Society, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the Medical Association of Georgia. He also serves on the Alumni Board for The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, where he is a team physician. Dr. McClelland is blessed with a wonderful family, including his wife Christina, who is currently working on her second novel, and daughters Mabry (12) and Emily (9). In his spare time, he enjoys golf, hunting, and fishing.
6 THE 2023 GEORGIA ORTHOPAEDIC SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING GOS MISSION STATEMENT MISSION STATEMENT OF THE ANNUAL MEETING MEETING EVALUATION FORM GOS VISION STATEMENT The mission of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society is to help Georgia Orthopaedic Surgeons provide quality care and lead rewarding professional lives. The Georgia Orthopaedic Society will accomplish our mission statement by: 1. Offering orthopaedic surgeons’ educational programs on clinical and practice management topics. 2. Conducting advocacy efforts on behalf of orthopaedic surgeons and patients. 3. Providing opportunities to foster personal and professional relations among orthopaedic surgeons; and 4. Promoting the specialty of orthopaedic surgery to the general public. The mission of The Georgia Orthopaedic Society is to provide pertinent, quality continuing medical education for practicing orthopaedic surgeons. The annual meeting and other educational meetings of our society strive to do so by affording an opportunity for orthopaedists throughout the state to exchange ideas regarding patient care. This is done through formal and informal discussions relevant to orthopaedic issues and through scientific presentations by orthopaedists with pertinent clinical or research expertise. The result of each program of the Society is to enable orthopaedists to achieve and maintain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to provide patient care at optimum levels. A meeting evaluation form will be emailed to you after the meeting has concluded. A CME certificate will be sent after we receive a completed evaluation. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Georgia Orthopaedic Society. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 12 THE 2023 GEORGIA ORTHOPAEDIC SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING GOS PRESIDENTIAL GUEST SPEAKER Michael P Bolognesi, MD, FAAOS Michael P. Bolognesi (“Bolo”), MD is Professor of Surgery, Chief of the Adult Reconstruction Division, and Director of the Adult Reconstruction Fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University School of Medicine. He completed medical school and his residency at Duke, followed by a Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. After his training, Dr. Bolognesi joined the Duke academic faculty where his practice is focused on total hip and knee replacement, unicompartmental arthroplasty, revision total hip and knee replacement, patient outcome optimization and value based care. He conducts a high volume of clinical research focused on studying the outcomes of these procedures as well as investigating the introduction of new technologies to advance this field of care. He has a specific ongoing effort using big data and AI to work out solutions for challenges in arthroplasty care. Dr. Bolognesi is extremely well-published in the hip and knee space. He has served as the President of the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association as well as the President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He is on the Board of Directors for the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation and on the AAOS Board of Directors (BOS). He is a member of both the Knee Society and the Hip Society. He and his wife Kelly truly enjoy their three children John (age 17), Rina (age 16), and Julia (age 13).

Waters, MD, FAAOS Peter Waters, MD, was raised in Syracuse, NY, and graduated college and medical school from Tufts University in Boston, MA. He completed all his post graduate training through the Harvard system. He believes education is transformative and has gained post-graduate certificates and degrees from programs in leadership, management, and education from Harvard’s Business, Public Health, and Medical Schools along with Middlebury Breadloaf Writers Conference. Peter’s clinical expertise is in pediatric hand and upper limb disorders, in particular congenital limb differences, neuromuscular problems, especially brachial plexus birth palsies and their sequelae. Peter was until recently Orthopaedic Surgeonin-Chief at Boston Children’s Hospital, John Hall Professor at Harvard Medical School. To simplify and unify his family, he has transitioned to Charlotte, NC, to work part time with Atrium Health and OrthoCarolina as well as spend more time with his family. Both of his kids, their spouses and grandchildren live there. Peter is now the Hendrick Family Endowed Professor at Atrium Health. He was the President of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America from 2011- 2012. He was recently inducted in the POSNA Hall of Fame. He is the author of over 225 publications and book chapters, co-author of Surgery of the Pediatric Hand and Upper Limb, Illustrated Tips and Tricks in Pediatric Fracture Orthopaedic Surgery, Illustrated Tips and Tricks in Pediatric Reconstructive Surgery, and co-editor of Rockwood and Green Fractures in Children multiple editions. Most recently he obtained a Master of Science in Medical Education from Harvard Medical School and has developed leadership programs for surgical faculty, fellows, and residents in place for surgical fellows at Boston Childrens, Harvard Orthopaedic Surgery residents, and Atrium HealthOrthoCarolina residents and fellows. He has now organized and is Director of the upcoming POSNA Program for Leadership Development. At heart, he is a coach. On a personal note, he has two wonderful kids, Rebecca and James, married to Billy Glavin Danielle Volman Waters; three Charlotte-based grandchildren, Izzy, Elle, and Zhanna; and most importantly, his great wife, Janet, who keeps everything and everyone together.

Thomas Hopkins, board certified in General and Sports Medicine, returned to his hometown in Griffin in 1989 upon completion of his duty to the USAF as a flight surgeon and orthopaedist. He graduated from Valdosta State University, attended the University of Georgia, and graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in 1980. He completed his residency at Emory in 1987. Active in civic affairs, Dr. Hopkins has served as president of the Griffin Rotary Club, chief of staff of Spalding Regional Hospital, team physician for Griffin, Pike County, and Spalding High, boards of the Salvation Army, First Methodist Church, Southern Crescent Technical College, Medical Association of Georgia, and others. He served as president of the GOS 2005-2006, and its board 2000-2008. He has served on the board of MagMutual insurance company since 2010, coordinating the medical malpractice defense of physicians throughout the U.S. In 2010 Dr. Hopkins was appointed to the University System of Georgia Board of Regents by then-Governor Perdue and reappointed by Governor Deal on which he continues to serve. He served as chairman in 2017. As the only physician on the board, he became a member of the Augusta University Health System Board from 2010-2017, overseeing the Medical College of Georgia and related institutions and chaired the committee that increased nursing programs throughout the state. As a regent, he led the effort to eliminate tobacco on all USG properties and require Narcan to be carried by all campus security personnel. Dr. Hopkins feels his greatest accomplishment on the BOR was to spearhead and chair the committee to increase primary care specialties throughout Georgia. Although Georgia was 7th in the nation in population, it was 41st in doctors per capita. Working with the governor and legislature, the number of residency positions in internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, pediatrics, ob/gyn, and psychiatry has increased by almost 800. Nine new teaching hospitals have been established. He and his wife, Sara Lucas Hopkins, reside in Griffin and have homes on St Simons and Sea Island. Their son, Chase, is a dentist on St Simons, where he resides with Anna and their three children. Daughter Paige Hopkins Parker is a DPT and resides in Macon with her husband Harrison and their two daughters. Dr. Duncan has been married to his better-half Jan for 42 years. They are proud of their two sons, two sweet daughtersin-law, three beautiful grandchildren, and one dog and two cats. They all enjoy lake life together (except the cats). 2023 AWARDS
