What COTE Offers

The Center for Organizational and Teaching Excellence (COTE) provides training and support for faculty
and staff at LSC-Tomball. Professional development workshops are available throughout the year, and to
enhance the learning experience, we also offer certification & customized training. All workshops are
focused on the COTE Instructional Professional Development Tags:

The Center for Organizational and Teaching Excellence (COTE) will be centering our programming
around the following four Professional Development Categories:

Culture: Provide professional development
opportunities focusing upon nurturing a culture of
respect and collaboration.

Employee Development: Professional
development focused on the learning and
development of employees.

Curriculum Enhancement: Provide professional
development relating to curriculum redesign and/or
enhancement for the purpose of increasing student success.

Persistence: Provide professional development opportunities focused upon data
and course-based actions related to the goal of increasing student persistence.

COTE Customized Training

Customized training can be requested by departments to focus on job specific development and/or
performance enhancement. Training will be developed and scheduled based on departmental needs. For

Supervisor Art of Delegation
Success Delegating allows you time to work on more important matters while
developing your employees. This session teaches managers the skills
(LSC-CSSS) necessary to delegate effectively, examines why we don’t delegate, and
explores the resulting consequences.

cCaarmrpyus Campus Carry: The Basics
The Basics presentation will provide an overview of Texas gun law and how
it will affect campus life.

Choose Your Own Emotions
We experience many emotions every day. This workshop will explore how
to make choices in how we react emotionally to the various challenges we
face.

Civitas - Inspire for Advisors (LSC-2627)
Participants will be instructed on how to better track their student’s persistence
at Lone Star College through the CIVITAS program.

Civitas - Introduction to Civitas Illume (LSC-2746)
This session will provide a tour of Illume’s basic features and tools.

Civitas Training: Illume in Depth (LSC-2879)
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to log into Illume
student applications, identify student groups in need of support in the current
term, and create custom student lists. Participants will watch a video in a
classroom setting.

Supervisor Conflict Resolution
Success This workshop will provide employees with the necessary tools to resolve
conflicts quickly and effectively.

Create Your Own videos with One Button Studio
Participants will receive hands-on training in the One Button Studio which
is a video production studio that enhances teaching and learning at LSC-
Tomball, allowing students and faculty to record video content with no
technical expertise required.


Creating Fillable Forms Using
Adobe® Acrobat Pro & Google Drive
Learn the fillable forms capabilities of Adobe Acrobat Pro and Google
Drive. Learn the steps used in creating a variety of fillable forms. Learn how
to retrieve and utilize data from completed forms.

Customer Service: Connect & Commit
Identify key relationships with internal and external customers and work
toward building rapport with your customers. Learn effective, empathic, and
focused communications skills to help deliver quality service.

D2L Desire2Learn (D2L) Open Labs
D2L Open Labs are facilitated, non-structured workspaces for faculty learning
Desire2Learn to use the D2L interface. Participants may come-and-go at will, and work
independently or with knowledgeable facilitators.

Desire2Learn This one hour, hands-on course provides the steps to take at the end of
the semester to extract Final Exam, Attendance and Gradebook from
D2L the Desire2Learn (D2L) learning management system (LMS) for reporting
purposes.

Desire2Learn (D2L): Intelligent Agents
Track student activity and send automatic email notifications from your online
courses. Desire2Learn (D2L): Intelligent Agents can be used to provide early
warning notifications for low performance, to praise high performance and
for reminders.

Supervisor Difficult or Just Different?
Success This interactive session will offer participants techniques for dealing with
difficult people in the workplace. It will also highlight perception and how it
(LSC-CSSS) may cloud the reality of the situation deemed difficult.

Success Identify the components of emotional intelligence in the workplace, and be
able to identify situations at work that cause emotional reactions.

Success This interactive workshop will provide information regarding the differences
among the various generations. The value of diversified workplace
(LSC-CSSS) perspectives will be discussed.

LSC-TOMBALL GRIT Certification
Through the GRIT Certification Program, faculty will learn how to create a
GLOBAL classroom experience grounded in grit and growth mindset. Over the course
of one semester, faculty will attend 6 sessions, earning 12-15 professional
GRIT development hours, and they will demonstrate their understanding of
INITIATIVE creating a gritty classroom experience through various assignments and a
EST. 2016 capstone project.

interview tips. Registered attendees will have the opportunity to present
a teaching demonstration and participate in mock interviews with expert
leaders. Participants will receive immediate and specific feedback on their
interviews and teaching demonstrations.

Learn various methods for working through a problem and gain a sense of

Scheduling Events on Active Calendar
Learn how to make events and submit them for online publishing on Active
Calendar. This workshop will take users from their free account registration
to creating their own events and submitting them step-by-step. Once the
basics have been covered, the instructor will show the back-end processes
of event publication onto the calendar, common errors and how to deal with
them, and answer other questions provided by attendees.
