ATO GIRMA WAKE

RECEIVES AN AWARD

On the 10th ‘Yebego Sew’ award, held on Sunday, September 04,
2022 at Inter Luxury Hotel, Mr. Girma Wake received an award in
the presence of the FDRE’s President HE Mrs. Sahlework Zewde,
higher government officials, media and other prominent figures. 

Ethiopian Airlines Board Chairman and the father of African
Aviation, Mr. Girma Wake has been awarded in recognition for
his great contribution to the growth of Ethiopian Airlines and the
African Aviation industry for the past five decades.

‘Yebego Sew’ Award honors individuals who are role models and
made greater contributions to Ethiopia and its citizens. This year’s
award was made from twenty seven nominees in various categories
of which Public Service is the one Mr. Girma was nominated and
finally awarded.

For a veteran aviation executive who has long been revered as the
Godfather of African Aviation, Guru of African Aviation, Captain of
Aviation, and who has been honored with various awards including
the Lifetime Achievement Award from AVIADEV Africa which
was still dedicated in his name ‘Girma Wake Lifetime Achievement
Award’, this award is only well deserved and rightfully earned if
not overdue.

Hence, we at Ethiopian Group, who passionately follow your
footsteps, are extremely proud and excited about this achievement
and would like to say Congratulations to our leader Mr. Girma
Wake!  Your hard work and perseverance has paid off.

Happy New Year to You All and Your Loved Ones!

First, I would like to extend my best wishes to you all
and your loved ones for a Happy Ethiopian New Year!

As we bid farewell to 2014 E.C. and welcome the
2015 E.C, it is indeed the right time to look back
and reflect on our successes and challenges.

The year 2014 has a special place in my heart as well
as in the history of our national flag carrier as I have
assumed the new responsibility on one hand, and our
airline registered a record performance on the other.
At all times, you have demonstrated to be a durable
source of strength for our beloved company. I feel
honoured to have been working with you, a great,
self-motivated team of Ethiopian family.

We know that the past year has been a challenging
one; the continued effects of the pandemic, the
record high oil price, inconsistencies on aviation
regulations, inflations across the world following
the pandemic and the conflict between Ukraine and
Russia have put heavy pressure on the industry. Despite all these adversary factors, ET has scored a historical and
outstanding performance in all parameters during the year. This has been achieved while most airlines are still
struggling to survive. We need to recognize that our hard work, agility, resilience, perseverance, sharp focus on
cost saving and industrial peace were behind these achievements. I would like to take this opportunity to once
more express my heart-felt thanks and appreciation to all of you for this unique performance.

The year has also been a perfect period where we have demonstrated to the world our unity of purpose and
sustained growth amid all the challenges. As the recovery for passenger services improved, we have quickly
moved to convert some of our Preighter aircraft back to passenger configuration, expand our passenger network
and adapt our operation with the changing environment.

We have no room for any complacency based on our past achievements. The challenges we faced in 2014 E.C. are
expected to stay in 2015 E.C. As most airlines are recovering from the global crises and reinstating their services,
the competition is expected to get stiffer and tougher. The only way to sustain our fast and profitable growth is
to keep Ethiopian ahead of the competition at all times. This requires us to continuously improve our customer
services, enhance our cost saving practices, and rapidly adapt of our operation with the continuously changing
business environment. We will succeed in these efforts only when we maintain our tradition of hard work with
a team spirit, and innovation. I highly encourage you all to come up with new ideas that enhance revenue and
customer services or reduce costs.

We always need to maintain global safety practices in our day to day operation. I have no doubt that, by working
together, Ethiopian shall register another shining performance in 2015 E.C.

Finally, I would like to, once again, wish you all a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy Ethiopian New Year!!!

HOW TO STAY HEALTHY THIS WINTER

Winter is often a welcome change to the long, hot summers experienced, however significant drops in temperature
can lead to a variety of health conditions. Outbreaks of colds and flu generally increase in the population, asthma
symptoms can be exacerbated, and cooler conditions can lead to dehydration, weight gain, and unhealthy eating.

Practicing healthy habits can help you and your family avoid the winter blues and the health problems that can go
along with it. Here are some expert medical tips on how to stay healthy this winter.

Practice Healthy Habits

One of the more important winter health precautions is to practice healthy habits, which can help to minimize
your risk of catching colds and of course the dreaded flu.

Healthy habits to practice include washing your hands often, covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when
you sneeze or cough, and trying to avoid contact with those that have flu-like symptoms. Young children, the
elderly, and those at high risk are particularly susceptible to catching the flu.

If you do catch the flu, it’s important that you stay home from school or work and limit your contact with other
people so that you don’t infect them as well.

Eat Well

Colder weather can not only affect heating bills and wardrobe choices, but our bodies can also experience
changes in our metabolism, energy levels, and even food preferences. Eating foods high in nutritional value is
important in winter because it helps to supply the body with the ‘good’ fats, proteins, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins
(like B, C, D, and E), and carbohydrates it needs to kick-start your immunity and nourish you adequately. In order
to practice good healthcare in winter, try ‘winterizing’ your diet with some of these cold-weather favorites:

Root vegetables – boiling turnips will up
your vitamin C and A levels and slow-
roasting a handful of carrots will give you
an important boost of beta-carotene which
is great for immune systems

Broccoli and cauliflower – these cruciferous
vegetables are both high in Vitamin C
which helps to enhance our immunity

Oats – are not only low GI (meaning they
will help maintain your glucose levels), they
are also high in fibre and zinc which can
assist with proper immunity functioning

Soup – load up a nutritious broth with
loads of vegetables and you’ll enhance your
daily vitamin and mineral intake even further

Drinking water will also ensure your bodily functions are running efficiently, which can help to improve your
energy levels and keep your immune system functioning properly. Dehydration can often also dry out the mucous
membranes in our lungs and sinuses, which can seriously reduce their ability to fight infections.

Keep Active

Keeping active also gives our lungs a chance to detox,
can help us avoid winter weight gain and the vitamin
D obtained from sunshine can help keep our bones
strong, and even assist with lowering overly high
blood pressure. A daily walk or workout can also help
ease depression by helping our bodies release de-
stressing brain chemicals.

Stay Warm!

It sounds simple, but one of the most important ways you can manage your healthcare in winter is to stay warm.
Cold weather is particularly dangerous for older people and those with chronic health conditions including heart
or respiratory problems. To keep healthy during the winter season you should ensure you and your family eat and
exercise regularly to keep energy levels up, keep doors closed and curtains drawn to block draughts, wear several
light layers of warm clothing and have regular hot drinks and at least one hot meal a day if you can.

Ethiopian Airlines Records a Revenue of $5 Billion in 2021/22

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, generated $5 billion in
revenue in the fiscal year just ended, exceeding its planned income
by 8%. In comparison to last year’s performance, the company has
grown by 44%.

During the Annual General Assembly meeting, Ethiopian GCEO,
Mesfin Tasew stated that the company increased the number of cargo
aircraft to 38 during its peak days but has now returned 13 of them as
the freight market has cooled and passenger operations have increased.

As of now, Ethiopian Airlines has 138 operational planes, and has ordered 36 more. The firm plans to receive 13
(all Boeing 737 Max) out of the 36 in the 2015 E.C. fiscal year that began on July 8, 2022. Three of these have
already been imported last month, with the rest scheduled to follow soon enough. In addition, that two AirBus
350 planes will join the Airline’s assets as well.

Ethiopian Launches Tour and Activities Services in Partnership with GetYourGuide

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest aviation group in Africa, has partnered
with the globally leading online booking platform GetYourGuide,
to offer passengers an unforgettable travel experience. This
partnership provides Ethiopian Airlines’ customers easy access to
book travel activities alongside their flight. Passengers will have the
option of booking high quality and well-curated tours and activities
online either immediately after booking flights or later.

Ethiopian Airlines Orders Africa’s First A350-1000

Ethiopian Airlines Group, the flag carrier of Ethiopia, Africa’s
largest airline group, has upsized four of its A350-900 on order to
the largest variant of the A350 Family, the A350-1000, becoming
Africa’s first customer for the aircraft.

Ethiopian Airlines has been promoting its services at the Tourism
and Technology Week exhibition hosted by the Oromia Tourism
Commission for the past four days. During his attendance at a
panel discussion held on this Tourism and Technology Week, Mr.
Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, addressed
agendas such as regional potential and integration, tourism
opportunities in the transportation sector, Ethiopian Airlines’ role
and prospects in tourism, and consideration of tourism in the
infrastructure and urban development planning sector.

Ethiopian Airlines Is Taking Boeing 737 MAX Deliveries Again ET- STAR

The 737 MAX’s largest operator in Africa joins other airlines in the
resumption of deliveries amid mixed reactions. The Boeing 737
MAX is the fourth generation of the Boeing 737, a narrow body
airliner manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Following the decision to return the plane to its scheduled flight
operations earlier this year, Ethiopian Airlines has resumed taking
delivery of the Boeing 737 MAX. The three jets delivered so far
this year are the first to arrive with the carrier since the March 2019
crash of flight 302 that caused the death of all 157 people onboard.

The first to arrive was accepted on June 30th and is registered ET-AWJ. It departed Boeing’s facility in Seattle,
Washington, headed for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a stopover at Manchester Airport. The delivery to its
destination took place on July 2, 2022. The aircraft has since been busy with flight history data showing visits to
major airports around Africa, India, and Turkey.

The 737 MAX numbers two and three are registered ET-AWK and ET-AXG, both delivered in July. The first
made the trip on July 15th, stopping in Manchester on route. The second, traveling on July 25th, instead stopped
over at Shannon before arriving in Addis Ababa. Both have been busy operating routes around Africa, the
Middle East and India since arriving.

Ethiopian Airlines Gains 5th Freedom Rights for Geneva-Manchester Flights

As part of its upcoming Manchester-Geneva-Addis Ababa route
coming this winter, Ethiopian Airlines has been granted the right to
operate fifth freedom flights between Geneva (GVA)
and Manchester (MAN).

This means passengers can book the GVA-MAN-GVA leg of the
flight as a standalone fare. Ethiopian’s service between Geneva and
Manchester will be a brief two-hour add-on to its approximately
seven-hour flight between Geneva and Addis Ababa.

Before the pandemic, Ethiopian launched a four-times-weekly service between Addis Ababa and Manchester,
connecting via Brussels. After commencing flights in December 2018, the airline planned to make Addis Ababa-
Manchester a non-stop in July 2020, but its plans were shelved due to the COVID pandemic.

The airline looks set to deploy its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet on this route. An Ethiopian 787-9 offers capacity
for 315 passengers - 30 in business class and 285 in economy - while its 787-8 fleet seats 270 - 24 in business
and 246 in economy.

The African carrier’s wide body fleet consists of 19 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and 9 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
jets, along with 10 Boeing 777 and three Boeing 767 aircraft.

As a big company that needs capable & more
professional drivers for different activities,
Ethiopian Airlines has established a driving
school at EAA premises to further make
employees skillful in many areas and increase
their consciousness on safety & productivity of
employees, especially at the, Group Ground
Transport, Ramp Operation, Cargo
Operation, MRO, and EFM at the level of the
established standards.

Employees are benefiting from the in-house
training by getting sponsorship from ET
according to their nature of assignment and
are acquiring national driving licenses. ET is
also benefitting from the school by getting highly trained personnel and filling the existing gap that required
professional & safety focused drivers/operators at different divisions.

Using this privilege, 106 employees graduated and licensed in the Public-I and Public-III driving category so far.
Currently, 10 employees are taking Public-I

ASHENDA, ASHENDEYE, SHADEY, OR SOLEL- GIRLS SPECIAL
MOMENT IN NORTHERN ETHIOPIA

Ashenda or Shadey is a one very colorful celebration that mainly takes place in mid August in northern
Ethiopian areas of Tigray, Amhara and Agew areas where it is called Ashenda and Shadey (አሸንዴ ሻዴይ,)
respectively it’s also celebrated in areas of Wollo called Raya and Kobo where it’s called solel (ሶለል,) and
it also has other names in parts of Tigray such as “Ayniwari” in town of Axum and “Mariya” in the town of
Adigrat. The day is also celebrated in the neighboring country Eritrea which shares very similar traditions with
the above areas of the northern Ethiopian regions which showcases beautiful green flowery traditional Eritrean
dresses being worn by the girls who celebrate the day. The event marks the end of two week fasting or known
as (tsome filseta) to honor virgin marry of Zion by Ethiopian and Eritrean Orthodox Christian faith followers.
That’s why its holiday of the girls, where they go around singing and dancing in groups in their beautiful
Habesha kemis (Ethiopian and Eritrean traditional dress) around their towns and cities collecting the gift from

strangers for three days.
In this festival, traditionally, young girls wear local costumes called Habesha Kemis, hold green leaves on their
backs, sing songs in groups with the help of traditional musical instruments called “kebero”, and go to door-
to-door to receive elderly blessings . Holding a little Variant of names, (Ashenda-in Tigray), (Ashendeye-in

Lasta), (Shadey- in Agew Humra) or (Solel- in Raya) and with a Religious and Cultural connotation.

Once a group of 50 people were attending a seminar.
Suddenly, the speaker stopped and decided to do a
group activity. He started giving each attendee one
balloon. Each one was asked to write his/her name on it
using a marker pen. Then all the balloons were collected
and put in another room.

Now these delegates were let into that room and asked
to find the balloon which had their name written within
5 minutes. Everyone was frantically searching for their
name, colliding with each other, pushing around others
and there was utter chaos.

At the end of 5 minutes no one could find their own
balloon. Now each one was asked to randomly collect
a balloon and give it to the person whose name was
written on it. Within minutes everyone had their own
balloon.

The speaker then began, “This is happening in our lives.
Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all around,
not knowing where it is.

Our happiness lies in the happiness of other people. Give
them their happiness; you will get your own happiness.
And this is the purpose of human life…the pursuit of
happiness.”

Ethiopian PTS Trainees Donate Sanitary Pads for The Humanitarian Organizations

Ethiopian PTS trainees, in collaboration with Ethiopian Foundation, served meal to 200 elderly and mentally
disabled people at Macedonians Humanitarian Association (MHA) last June 2022. The PTS trainees took the
initiative to feed the elderly and set an example to their fellow Aviation students and colleagues.

Similarly, the team visited Meseret Humanitarian Organization (MHO), Zewditu Meshesha Children and Family
Charity’s Development Association, and Finote Rehabilitation for Women with Disabilities Associations in July
and donated over 59 packs of Humanitarian Sanitary pads worth ETB 50,000.

first round of tree planting programs
in July in Bole sub-city district one,
attended by Ethiopian executives
and employees. Ethiopian Airlines
has been conducting such activities

survey by Global Travel magazine. We are extremely proud to be voted favorite
Airline in Africa by our American travelers.”

Ethiopian Airlines Maputo Station participated in seedling planting event which
took place in Maputo. The Event was organized by The Embassy of Congo in
Mozambique and the Ministry of Land and Environment as part of the cooperation
between the two countries.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Yetinayet Mulugeta, Ethiopian Area Manager in
Mozambique said “we are proud to be part of the plating event, as Environmental
sustainability and Green Environment are among our major corporate social
responsibilities and philosophies. With Ethiopian Airlines, we fly further towards
green and better place for all.”

The Fair of Gastronomy, Art and Service ET- STAR

The Fair of Gastronomy, Art and Service in Feima was held by the Service of Economic Activities of the City of
Maputo in partnership with the Tourism Industry, on August 18,2022 in order to help companies promote their
services which Ethiopian Airlines was invited to participate in.

The fair had a great diversity of food products, personal use products such as cosmetics, household items, jewelry
and services of an airline company, Ethiopian Airlines.

During the fair, Ethiopian airlines has promoted it’s services, the flash sales of 20% for the 12 new ET destinations
through flyers.

The fair was attended by the Director of services of economic activities of the city of Maputo, Lucia da Luz Mendes
Luciano, head of Industry and Tourism Januario Rafael and the Administrator of Feima Nelson Nhachungue. Still
in the context of increasing visibility and attention, ET chose to offer at this fair, in an extroverted way, 2 prizes
to 2 winners who answered questions correctly about ET on the spot.
