ET-STAR MORAL STORY THE BAKER AND THE BUTTER A long time ago, a baker and a farmer lived in the same small village. These two men had a friendly arrangement in place, where the farmer would sell a pound of butter to the baker each day. One morning, the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he’d received the correct amount. To his surprise, he discovered that the farmer had sold him less butter than he’d paid for. Angry about the unfairness, he took the farmer to court. At the hearing, the judge asked the farmer whether he used any measure to weigh the butter. “Your honor, I am but a lowly farmer and do not own a proper measure. I simply use an old-fashioned scale,” he replied. “How do you weight the butter then?” Enquired the judge. To this the farmer answered: “Your honor, long before the baker started buying butter from my farm, I’ve been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Every day when he brings me the bread, I place it on my scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone is to be blamed, it’s the baker.” MORAL OF THE STORY: Be kind and fair to others and you’ll enjoy the rewards.

ET-STAR UNUSUAL FACT THE WORLD’S SHORTEST FLIGHT ROUTES WESTRAY TO PAPA WESTRAY: 90 SECONDS The shortest flight in the world connects two Scottish islands, Westray and Papa Westray. It has been measured as the shortest scheduled passenger flight by the Guinness World Records, having first flown in 1967 and welcomed the one millionth passenger in 2016. Operated by Loganair, the route is just 1.7 miles long, and has seen record times of just 47 seconds (depending on the winds). The reason for the short flight is due to the rough seas. ET-STAR FOR PROFESSIONAL WORLD

ET-STAR CUSTOMER FOCUS 1. TREAT CUSTOMERS WITH RESPECT. Customers want to feel valued and appreciated. They don’t want to be spoken down to or ignored. When you’re providing customer service, make sure you are respectful and use a polite and helpful tone. 2. PROVIDE PROMPT ASSISTANCE. Most customers hate waiting. They often want help immediately and don’t want to wait long for it. Put a system in place that allows customers to get assistance quickly. This could mean having someone available to answer the phone or having customer service representatives who can promptly address customer concerns. 3. FIND SOLUTIONS THAT MEET CUSTOMER NEEDS. Not only do many customers dislike waiting, but they also hate having to deal with the same issue repeatedly. They want their problems solved and solutions that meet their specific needs. When you’re providing customer service, take the time to understand what the customer is asking for and find a solution that works for them. Resolve any problems efficiently and as quickly as possible so that the customer doesn’t have to keep coming back. 4. COMMUNICATE CLEARLY AND CONCISELY. Don’t confuse customers about what is happening or what they need to do. When providing customer service, make sure your communication is clear and easy to understand. This includes using simple language and avoiding jargon. 5. BE HONEST WHEN THINGS GO WRONG. Customers appreciate honesty. If something goes wrong, they want to know what happened, and they typically want businesses to be upfront about it. When you run into an issue, always be honest with the customer and don’t try to hide anything. 6. FOCUS ON CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND A SENSE OF CARE. Make sure you are focused on the specific customer’s needs and doing everything possible to ensure they are satisfied. Show the customer that you care about their experience and put in the extra effort to help them. 7. HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. Many of us can sense when someone is unhappy or doesn’t want to be helping us — don’t let this happen in your customer service. It’s important to have a positive attitude and make it clear you are excited to help the customer. This can make them feel more welcome and appreciated. 8. EDUCATE YOUR TEAM MEMBERS ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS. Most people want to work with people who know what they’re doing. Ensure that your staff is knowledgeable about the products and services you offer. This will also help them address customer concerns quickly and effectively.

There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work.” Calvin Coolidge “Work harder than you think you did yesterday.” Alex Elle “Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work.” Peter Drucker “Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most.” Augusta F. ET-STAR AVIATION FACT TRAVELERS LOSE OUT ON OVER A THIRD OF THEIR TASTE BUDS DURING FLIGHT There is an actual reason that airplane food can sometimes taste relatively bland. When an airplane is flying at a high altitude, the air becomes very dry, and the air pressure drops. This forces passengers’ sense of smell to drop, directly affecting how they judge taste. When you step on an aeroplane, the atmosphere inside the cabin affects your sense of smell first. Then, as the plane gets higher, the air pressure drops while humidity levels in the cabin plummet. At about 30,000 feet, humidity is less than 12% – drier than most deserts. The combination of dryness and low pressure reduces the sensitivity of your taste buds to sweet and salty foods by around 30%, according to a 2010 study conducted by Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, commissioned by German airline Lufthansa. To investigate this the researchers used a special lab that reduced air pressure simulating cruising at 35,000 feet (10.6km) – as well as sucking moisture out of the air and simulating the engine noise. Taste buds and sense of smell are the first things to go at 30,000 feet. “Flavour is a combination of both, and our perception of saltiness and sweetness drop when inside a pressurised cabin.” Source: BBC and Simple flying

ET-STAR HUMOR IN DIALOGUE THE MOST IMPORTANT ORGAN One day the body organs got together and decided to have a board meeting. Here’s what went on behind closed doors. There was intense discussion to determine WHO WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE BODY. The BRAIN was the first to speak,” Without me, nothing would be accomplished.” Then the HEART spoke up,” Without me pumping blood to your brain, you could not function.” The ARMs laughed.” You’re both wrong. Without me to put food in the mouth, nothing would work.” The STOMACH said,” Without me, your food would not digest.” The LUNGS bellowed back,” Without us, you could not breathe.” The EYES blinked,” Without me, you could not see.” The KIDNEYS snorted, “Without me, you could not detoxify and eliminate.” The COLON meekly spoke up.” I am important. You need me to eliminate all the garbage from your systems.” Everyone laughed and made fun of him.” How can you be as important as we are? You’re just a smelly old sewer.”

ET-STAR The poor colon’s feelings were hurt. He turned away and thought,” I will show them.” HE SHUT DOWN! Then, he sat back and watched what happened. The BRAIN was stupefied. The HEART’s beat was weak and irregular. The ARMS were weak and couldn’t move. The LUNGS gave in to shallow breathing. The EYES became clouded. The KIDNEYS quit. The COLON looked around and decided it was time to call another meeting. It wasn’t that lively this time, but everyone was in total agreement. The COLON WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT ORGAN! THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MOMENT. Do you agree with above opinion? Does this apply to an organization? Say to ETHIOPIAN? Who is the most important Employee/Division in Ethiopian? Or Do you agree that all are important, and that what is required is TEAMWORK?

ET-STAR INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY - 9 DECEMBER 2023 The 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) seeks to highlight the crucial link between anti-corruption and peace, security, and development. At its core is the notion that tackling this crime is the right and responsibility of everyone, and that only through cooperation and the involvement of each person and institution can we overcome the negative impact of this crime. States, government officials, civil servants, law enforcement officers, media representatives, the private sector, civil society, academia, the public and youth alike all have a role to play in this. With the theme of this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day, UNCAC at 20: Uniting the World Against Corruption, we intend to celebrate not only this significant milestone in global anti-corruption endeavours but also the improvements brought about by the collective efforts supported by the Convention. Equally crucial is our examination of the remaining gaps that need addressing to ensure that this mechanism continues to grow stronger in the years ahead. Join us build a world at United Against Corruption!!!

ET-STAR HEALTHY FRUITS TO EAT APPLES Besides being a notable source of phytonutrients and antioxidants, apples also work as a natural mouth refresher, cleaning your teeth with each bite, while leaving behind a pleasing aroma in your mouth. Do note that an apple’s flavour and aroma come from fragrance cells found in its skin. So, for maximum taste and added fibre, leave that skin on. BANANAS Bananas contain one of the highest amounts of potassium found among fruit. A medium-sized banana contains around 422mg of potassium (about 10%) of the requirement for an average adult. Potassium is an important nutrient for the functioning of muscles. To hasten the ripening process of a banana, place it in a paper bag. The reason this works is that bananas and other fruits such as apples produce ethylene gas — which helps to trigger ripening. Contrary to popular belief, placing bananas in the fridge does not cause them to go bad faster. While the outer skin does indeed turn black and patchy, the fruit inside stays relatively unaffected and can last for about an additional week, as compared to leaving it outside the refrigerator. BERRIES Among all the fruits, berries contain the highest number of antioxidants. The antioxidant properties of these fruit help to fight off diseases and potentially prevent cell deterioration. Ranked in order of antioxidant content are blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries. DURIANS Durian lovers will be pleased to know that there are many health benefits of consuming this love-it-or-hate-it fruit. The fruit is full of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin B-1 (thiamin) and B-6 (pyridoxine), contributing 31% and 24% of RDA respectively for adults[1]. It is also a good source of dietary fibre as five seeds provide 16% of our dietary fibre requirements. You might be surprised to know that durians contain zero cholesterol, since cholesterol is only found in animal products. Nevertheless, because of its high sugar content, they are relatively rich in calories, (250 kcal over five seeds), so do consume in moderation (not more than four seeds per sitting).
