THE WILD CARD MESSAGES Advices and opinions surpassing all boundaries of reality. Providing us with a path untrodden and invaluable

Dearest Students The penultimate year of your school life is special and full of optimism and hope. You look forward to stepping into Class XII with a sense of seniority and responsibility. I feel jubilant to pen down a message for Wall School Journal which is in its fourth year now. The Class XI magazine is unique as it is of the students, for the students and by the students. In a year’s time, you all will be ready to take flight from the secure school premises. Wherever you are and whatever you do, try to embrace your individuality. Do what is right, love what you do without worrying about judgement. I sincerely feel, ‘If you walk in the footprints of others, you won’t make any of your own’. The goal of every individual should be to do something different, something meaningful for the society. You have to leave YOUR footprints on the sands of time. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, ‘To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you somebody else is the greatest accomplishment’. Believe in your abilities, be sincere to yourself and work consistently every day to reach your goal. Try to do something different, something that has the power to change the world because normality is like a paved road; very comfortable to walk but nothing grows on it. If Robert Frost could take the road less travelled by and make a difference in the world, then I am confident that all of you can be the game-changers of tomorrow. It takes nothing to join the crowd but it takes every thing to stand alone. Best wishes and blessings to you all! Normality is a paved road: It’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it. Vincent Van Gogh MRS POONAM S RAMPAL BEYOND THE PAVED ROADS PRINCIPAL

It is truly wonderful to live in the times we are in and even more wonderful to write for WSJ at the request of dear Maulik. As a species, human beings have evolved so much. Civilizations were formed in the past and now they have disappeared. The remains speak of the glorious past. Animal and plant species evolved and have become extinct, life has transformed – food, fashion, trends have changed so much. Back then, life was much simpler. Modern times is also beset with modern problems. There is too much information which also causes distractions. The plethora of information floating around leads to loss of time, restricts the thought process, leads to a social disconnect and change of mindset without giving a prior warning. One of the most feared expressions of modern times is ‘ The computer is down’. The world has many problems but in my opinion, this hijacking of our brain’s reward centre by electronic media is potentially the most destructive. While travelling, in work places or at home, our life is dependent on phones and computers. Love for the electronic media also leads to self-love and self-centredness. Selflove aids in being optimistic and doing meaningful work. But it also leads to addiction and becoming conceited. We don’t care much about the people around us. Being modern does not mean that you become oblivious to people around you. If man is a social animal, then he must be rooted to the eco-system he is a part of. Be sensitive to your family, friends, society, nation and also the earth we live in. In the words of Eqbal Ahmad, “We are living In the modern times throughout the world and yet we are dominated by medieval minds”. Corruption, anarchy, misrule and war is proof of that. The experiences that we have is composed of illusions lost, rather than wisdom acquired. Visionary men and women are a rarity today. The myopic way of life is not for the humans. Today in this world there are global problems staring at us. We can solve these problems with out of box ideas and working in unison, as we are the children of one world. Modern problems require modern solutions with the right intent. One can overcome new challenges. We need to think right, take the right action and then surely we can find the solutions to modern age problems. A simple way of life, high thinking but not high expectations can resolve many conflicts. Think positively and work in the right direction to live imprints on the sands of time. ‘A thousand words will not leave so deep an impression as one noble deed’. “I hope you realise that every day is a fresh start for you, that every sunrise is a new chapter in your life waiting to be written.” Everyone talks about how Class XII is a big deal, like a make-it-or-break-it kind of deal. While it is undoubtedly a very important year for you all, let me spill a secret – no single year has the power to dictate your entire life. Give it your best shot, but don’t let the pressure get to you. Life’s way more than a single chapter. Feeling the weight of expectations is natural, but always remember, you’re not alone. Your support system includes dedicated teachers, caring parents, your family and friends. Lean on them when needed and never underestimate the strength derived from perseverance. Lastly, amidst the hustle, don’t forget to savour the moments. Take a pause, appreciate the journey and find time to “smell the roses.” Life is not just about reaching the destination but cherishing the beauty in every step of the way. Wishing you a rewarding and fulfilling final year, filled with growth, self-discovery and cherished memories. MRS KUSUM KAPOOR PARTING SHOT HOD - BIOLOGY

Stepping onto the sacred soil of Haridwar felt like crossing a threshold into a realm, where the divine intertwines with the mundane. Several hundred people gathering on the ghats to pray and to take a holy dip in the sacred waters of the river Ganga presented an enchanting and captivating sight, which coupled with the melodies of the temple bells and the fragrance of the incense sticks offered a divine experience. According to ancient Hindu beliefs, the river Ganga is the ‘Jeevan Daayini’, i.e. it possesses the power to infuse and nurture life and facilitate the flow of ideas. Numerous Tapasvis have attained a higher level of understanding after meditating for several years on the banks of the pious river, which originates from the mighty Himalayas. I was fortunate enough to witness and experience the ethereal Ganga Aarti in the early hours of morning in the revered Har Ki Pauri. The air was charged with anticipation as priests clad in saffron robes commenced the ritual, their hands weaving intricate patterns with flaming lamps. The riverbanks were bathed in the golden glow of a thousand flickering flames, illuminating the faces of the faithful gathered in reverence. In that moment, I felt the veil between the material and the divine grow thin, as if the heavens themselves had descended to bestow their blessings upon us mortals. I travelled to Rishikesh afterwards and sat on the banks of River Ganga, observing and admiring the pure water that had descended from the mountains, cutting through rocks and boulders, making its own way with a lot of force and coming down to the plains to provide the essence of life to the people of India. The rivulets pacing down from the Himalayas or the kesh of the Rishis deliver the pristine water to crores of the devotees, who travel from within and out of India in the quest for blessings of Ganga Devi. Leaving Haridwar behind, I carried with me the lingering echoes of its sacred song, a melody that resonated in the depths of my soul. Though my physical journey has come to an end, my spiritual odyssey has only just begun, guided by the eternal light that shines from the heart of Haridwar, the Gateway to God. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But Today is a gift, That is why it is called THE PRESENT
