A Tribute to Eileen

The Ms. Race Remembers Eileen Campbell

“You must Stay the Course. Challenges will line your path. Stay strong and
focused.” It was Eileen’s eloquent message to her niece on her birthday as she
entered the teen years. The term signifies staying on track for your goals or
destination regardless of the obstacles. It has been and continues to be our
inspiration for the Ms. Race.

Eileen contemplated both the negative and positive sides of radical change
happening in our society over the past few years. “There have been terrible
stories of loss and suffering that break our hearts, but then there are the people
who continue to do amazing things to help their communities in the face of
adversity that give us hope.”

We think of Eileen as we remember an amazing woman who put her heart and
soul into the Ms. Race and 180 Turning Lives Around. Eileen’s passion was
sailing her prized C&C 33, CODA. She raced in every Ms. Race and won five
medals over the years, including two for second place. She worked tirelessly to
promote the Ms. Race and her efforts resulted in record breaking participation
and fundraising.

Eileen always “stayed the course” for 180 making sure that 180 families were
well served. Over the years her dedication to the Ms. Race and 180 was evident.
When COVID disrupted planning in 2020, Eileen spent countless hours
implementing virtual events to raise money. All the while, and unbeknownst to
many, she was in the fight of her life to overcome cancer. Despite her own
personal challenges, she kept 180’s mission afloat. As a result, families in need
of support, safety and compassion received the help they so desperately needed.
Eileen will always have a special place in 180’s heart.

Eileen was a passionate and accomplished photographer and lovingly displayed
her photos of nautical themes and nature at the annual AHYC art show. Eileen’s
photos were always popular with club members and the local community. She
made generous donations from the sale of her art photos to 180 Turning Lives
Around. You can view Eileen’s display of beautiful sea and boat photography on
the Art Wall at the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club during the Ms. Race.

Eileen not only was eloquent in her description of the big picture, the overarching
theme, the organization of moving the Ms. Race forward. She also did the hard
work to make things happen. She sanded the bottom of her boat. She made the
calls and knocked on doors to help us meet our donation goals. She volunteered
for many projects and still had time for her beloved family. She will be missed.
