In the name of Allah, the most Merciful and the most Beneficent. A high gratitude to
the divine presence as this book has been able to be completed perfectly and with pure
blessings. A million thanks to all those who contributed in the publication of this book. Your
utmost commitment and enthusiasm in completing this task is greatly appreciated.

This book aims to introduce Mahallah Ruqayyah in all its glory, with outstanding
programs implemented during the tenure of 2019/2020. All the programs implemented were in
line with the prescribed sustainable development goals (SDG) and Maqasid Syariah.

In fact, there is a positive and effective impact from the program conducted to all
especially members of Mahallah Ruqayyah. This is to give them the opportunity to highlight
their talents and skills and even add knowledge so that the skills can be practiced in the future.

We are very grateful and respectful to all who helped and contributed ideas whether
directly or indirectly especially to the Mahallah Office, Principal, Fellows, and all Mahallah
Representative Committee of Mahallah Ruqayyah who have provided data and information
about Mahallah Ruqayyah.

Assalamu’alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh
In the Name of Allah, The Most Beneficent and Most Merciful
I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Mahallah Ruqayyah IIUM for the success
in the publication of this book of achievement. This effort is timely relevant, and I believe that
it can be a promoter to trigger and bring more success in the future.
Given our recognition as the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable
Development, including the recent International Green Gown Award for the 2020 Best
Sustainable Institution category, our commitment to Sustainable Development Goals agenda
goes beyond creating sustainable and conducive environment, but also to uphold Maqasid Al-
Shariah towards creating a Sejahtera community. In the context of IIUM, all Mahallah will
play their own unique roles to continuously assist the university in the work towards realising
the Sustainable Development Goals and more importantly, to promote conducive, healthy and
sustainable lifestyle.
I would like to congratulate all Mahallah Ruqayyah residents who managed to obtain
outstanding achievements regardless at the University, State, National or International level. It
is hoped that Principal, Fellows, students and all relevant stakeholders will improve their efforts
to ensure Mahallah Ruqayyah at IIUM continues to excel. I anticipate that the Mahallah
community will work together and give full support for the improvement of Mahallah activities
and encourage our campus community to practice beneficial, strong and justifiable lifestyle.
Finally, I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt appreciation to Mahallah Ruqayyah,
IIUM and everyone involved for their commitment in making this publication possible. It is
my dearest optimism that the effort to publish this book can benefit IIUM community and the

I bid my heartfelt salam to our beloved fellows, staffs and admin officers and all students of

Mahallah Ruqayyah. First and foremost, it is indeed a very great honour to be given this
wonderful opportunity to greet all of you to become a part of our Mahallah and to the
Ruqayyahian family. We want you to feel welcomed and at home. I am sure that every one of
you here will soon fall in love with this wonderful Mahallah and you will never regret staying
here because of its awesome facilities and you will surely feel very comfortable.

As a resident of Mahallah Ruqayyah, we are placing a big responsibility on you to behave
and conduct yourselves as true members of a family- that is to live in peace and harmony with
others, help each other and be good human beings. All the things here are ours so take care of
them as if they are your own. All the things we do here are for ourselves, so participate in them
actively and whole heartedly.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt appreciation to the
beloved fellows, staff and administrators, and to all the students of Mahallah Ruqayyah, and to

Mahallah Ruqayyah was officially opened in 2008 with four blocks in operation. By 2009,
another nine blocks were opened for occupancy, which put together a total number of fourteen
(14) blocks, inclusive of the Central Facilities (CF).

WELCOMING NEW INTAKE FOR

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Welcoming New Intake for International Students is a new program that is
organized by Mahallah Representative Committee (MRC) of Mahallah
Ruqayyah. Previously, this programme was only for the local students. The aim
of this program is to design a Ta’aruf session with the new intake of the
International students in order to help them acclimatize to the new environment
of their residential area.

This program is a student-base program which is constructed by students and
for students. The aim of this program is to help the International students to get
to know each other and to introduce the Principal, fellows, staff and the Mahallah
Representative Committee members of Mahallah Ruqayyah. General
information and useful guidelines regarding Mahallah services, facilities, as well
as the rules and regulations are shared to all new intake students during this
Ta’aruf session.

MOONLIGHT MOVIE DISSECTION 2.0

This program is a continuation of the Moonlight Movie Welcoming speech
Dissection programme that was conducted in the previous Movie Dissection
semester. It includes a session with speakers to dissect the movie
in order to improve our program better as well as to give a good
impact on the students.

The speakers are selected and the movies are approved by the
principal of Mahallah Ruqayyah and fellow in charge before
they are shown to our residents.

This is a regular program that will be conducted twice for
every month and is handled by our BRC line up.

Moonlight Movie Dissection 2.0 is a weekly program that
is organized by the Entrepreneurship and Sponsorship Bureau
of Mahallah Ruqayyah. This program is a student-base program
which is constructed by students and for students. The aim of
this program is indeed to encourage students on
entrepreneurship skills as well as to regulate income for our
tenure of Mahallah Representative Committee of Mahallah
Ruqayyah.

INTER-MAHALLAH SPORTS
CARNIVAL (ISC)

The Inter-Mahallah Sports Carnival (ISC) is
one of the annual programs conducted during
every tenure of MRC. Every Mahallah will
send their players to participate in all the
games organised the central for the
competition between Mahallahs. ISC also is
the big scale programs which runs for one
week.

The MRC will take the lead by encouraging
everyone to participate and promoting this carnival
among the residents. All participants will be awarded
star points, certificates and free t-shirt.

IHYA’ RAMADHAN 7.0

IHYA’ RAMADHAN Mahallah Ruqayyah is held during the month of Ramadan every
year to spread and share the true meaning of the Holy month. The previous program included
Iftar, Halaqah, short Tazkirah and Qiyamullail, which gave a lot of benefits to the mahallah
residents.

This program has cultivated ukhuwwah and brotherhood values among the residents and
leaders from other clubs. This program not just providing the medium for the residents to
refresh knowledge about Ramadhan, but it also prepares food for Iftar following the Sunnah of
the Prophet.

GOTONG-ROYONG 1.0

The Gotong-Royong Mahallah Ruqayyah program has successfully achieved
its own objectives which are to cultivate cleanliness among residents by collecting
rubbish, washing, cleaning and maintain the cleanliness of our beloved Mahallah.
At the same time building good rapport between MRC, fellows and residents of
Mahallah Ruqayyah.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IIUM Health Centre also gave us good cooperation
by guiding us to take preventive measures before the programme such as checking the body
temperature and making sure only students without any symptoms are allowed to join. Besides,
this program also provided free face mask and sanitizer to all participants and committees. To
add, Daya Bersih Sdn Bhd also gave us good cooperation by assisting to clean the tools for us.

FIT DURING RMO

This program concerns about residents’ well-being
during the Restricted Movement Order (RMO). As we
are aware, most of the residents feel stressed, anxiety
and have mixed feeling due to this COVID-19
pandemic.

Thus, to distract them from being stressful, the
MRC of Mahallah Ruqayyah came up with this
initiative. This program is called FIT DURING
RMO to re-direct the residents’ focus on themselves
to get fit. The participants need to record their activity
and routine to have a fit body and compile in a video.

Due to pandemic, this program was held
virtually at residents’ homes. Alhamdulillah we
manage to get participants even it was quite difficult
during RMO. Nonetheless, we succeeded in
encouraging students to stay committed in their goals
to get fit and maintain a healthy body by seeing their
progress. The major success of this program is we
succeeded to help students maintain a healthy lifestyle

even during RMO.

GRAND MENTAL HEALTH MONTH

This program focusses on enhancing the relationship among the residents of Mahallah
Ruqayyah and to create awareness among IIUM students regarding mental health.

This program was promoted to all residents of Mahallah Ruqayyah including local and
International students. Different from the previous program, this program focused on repairing
and cleaning the noticeboards, decorating the noticeboards and updating of the noticeboard
content regularly. Besides that, this program divided into three categories of competition like
Mental health Corner, Poem recitation, and Banner design.

IIUM WORLD TOILET DAY
‘SEJAHTERA TOILET HYGEINE

COMPETITION’

The World Toilet Organization (WTO) andThe United Nations (UN) is concerned about the
lack of universal human attention to aspects of hygiene in daily life. Recognizing the
importance of this World Toilet Day, the Office of Deputy Rector Student Development and
Community Engagement (ODRSCE) through the Council of Principals of Mahallah (COP)
organized IIUM World Toilet Day Celebration in 2020. This celebration is part of the Clean
Toilet Campaign program that has been conducted locally, nationally and globally. This target
is in line with the government's intention to make Malaysia a beautiful, attractive and clean
country in all aspects including facilities in toilets. Although the issue of toilet hygiene seems
to be common but it needs to be given attention because it has huge implications on health and
environmental hygiene, especially through campus lifestyle and student’s behavioral.

STINGLESS HONEY BEE RUQAYYAH

Stingless Honey Bee is a program that is organized Appreciation to fellow in charge
by Mahallah Representative Committee of Mahallah
Ruqayyah under the Culture and Arts Bureau in
collaboration with Entrepreneurs Bureau. This
program focuses on enhancing the relationship among
the residents of Mahallah Ruqayyah student. Besides,
it is also to encourage the residents of Mahallah
Ruqayyah to be involved with Mahallah activities as it
is promoted to all residents ofMahallah Ruqayyah
including local and International students. Different
from the previous program, this program focused on
how to take care of stingless beekeeping place and
how the bees produce stingless
honey.

IIUM E-SPORT CUP

This event is organised by Council of Principals as a replacement for Inter-
Mahallah Sport Carnival which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
E- Sport is not just about gaming, but it can also become a future career for IIUM
students and a virtual reality that represent challenges in real life. This event is
also in line with Malaysia’s Digital Economy initiatives and E-Sports events.
Apart from contributing ideas in the conception of E-Sport competition, it also
will give exposure to IIUM students in competition in E-Games. In line with the
agenda of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to achieve world peace that
will last for future generation, E-Sport is another potential tool that can be used
to promote and encourage people to strive hard to achieve the goals.

LITTLE FREE LIBRARY CAMPAIGN
2021

Little Free Library Campaign 2021 is basically a book donation campaign, as well as other
activities that is held under this campaign.
The first activity was the decoration of the Students Lounge and Mini Library, which was
undertaken by ten volunteers. It was conducted in the morning until the afternoon, and before
the activity begin, we made sure everyone followed the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP),
as we have to practice the new norm.
The second activity was the launching of the Students Lounge (including Mini Library) by the
principal of Mahallah Ruqayyah. It was attended by the principal, fellows and committees
involved. Photos of the launching activity was recorded and posted onto our social media, in
order to let all residents of Mahallah Ruqayyah yo take noticed about this activity.
