Letter from the President
Lindsey Chapman Meadows Resources
Dear IWIB,
Starting a new board year is always exciting. So many things to
cover and so many things to do. Everyone is learning everyone is
excited. We are flooded with new ideas and hope for the new year.
One of the most helpful things we do is do a gap analysis of our
league to see where we are winning and were we need to focus for
the next year. Nothing in that gap analysis can really prepare you
for governing our members during COVID.
We have all experience so much change this year. In every aspects
of our lives something has take a turn we didn’t expect. How do
you prepare a board for a history making year like this? I don’t
know if there is even a way to answer that.
I think the big takeaway is that we all have to stick together. We all
have to learn and grow. We need to step up in ways we haven’t
before and support one another during that process. I know our
group is small but it is mighty. We can make this board year
anything we want it to as long as we keep the communication up
and are honest with ourselves about what we really need. Our
sisterhood can make great things happen this year. I can’t wait to
see you shine!
Best regards,
Lindsey
Build a financial legacy that will continue Meru
Hunter
to inspire and provide security for your
generation even after you die. McMahon
We need to be honest with ourselves and conscious about our busyness and spending.
What are we doing today that will contribute positively in the future beyond our lifetime?
by Meru Hunter McMahon, Author of Currencies of Life
Despite financial struggles, people continue to exercise unproductive habits and
unconsciously spending and increasing chronic financial stress. While you are alive, you
may do everything to survive, but have you asked yourself: “Would my family be financially
secure if I were to die today?”
Unfortunately, death is something we can not escape. I see too many “go-fund me” to pay
for loved ones’ funeral. Hope my story will motivate and inspire you to take your financial
health seriously. It is about Jerry Dan Hunter, the father of my children who
unexpectedly passed away four years ago. His decision to be financially responsible is
still paying off, even during current, uncertain economic times for our family. Even if he is
not physically with us, he continues to keep us financially secure allowing me to care for
our kids without working full time. Jerry was the youngest of three children, raised by his
Mom who was struggling financially after losing his father at a young age.
Jerry did not own his own business, or had life insurance to keep a financial legacy
behind after his passing. He was just an ordinary guy who worked a 9–5 job. Even though
he had insecurities of being poor, he did not get serious about building his financial
wealth till his early thirties. He finally completed his bachelors degree at the age of 34
and got his first serious job. What he taught us as a husband and father is to respect the
money we worked hard to earn, implement a strategic plan to grow financial security, and
achieve goals despite our fears and our past.
“WE ARE BUSY BEING BUSY AND NOT PRODUCING ANY TANGIBLE RESULTS
THAT WILL INSPIRE OUR GENERATION SO WE LEAD SUBCONSCIOUS LIFE
DAY IN AND DAY OUT UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE”.
What we can learn from Jerry is that you can start late and still succeed financially, you
do not have to have a business or life insurance to leave a legacy behind, and that you
can set an example for your future generations. We may not have financial debt to worry
about after his passing, but we still have a responsibility to continue his legacy for him. If
your kids remember you wasting money when they are growing up, that is what they are
going to do when they are older. Set an example of proper balanced money
management, spend when needed, and invest properly as needed to fit your desired
outcome.
3 Key Takeaways:
● Identify your goals and values to secure yourself and your family’s financial
future
● Create a strategic action plan and take concrete steps to reach your financial
security
● Exercise conscious busyness and money spending to make sure you are
producing tangible results
