Susie Macdonald, a corporate
communications officer for Cleve-

this week that Dondo is a want-
ed man after failing to appear in
court and evading justice in 2007.

“As I said in our initial conver-
sation last week, given the length
of time which has passed since our
dealings with this individual, we
are only able to give a brief com-
ment,” Macdonald said.

“Our records confirm that this
individual (Kanganwirai Dondo)
is wanted on warrant for failure
to appear at court in 2007 for
alleged immigration offences.
He remains on police systems as
wanted. However, we cannot con-
firm his current location. If he at-
tempted to re-enter the UK from
abroad, he would be placed before
the courts.”

Dondo is currently in Harare
where he runs Impala and lives.

Although UK police did not
reveal the specific charges against
Dondo, he has in several inter-
views in the past indicated he
worked for a recruitment agency
which employed illegal immi-

Stranded infants, women, the disabled and the elderly are

a dire crisis to jolt the public officials into action — instead,
they resort to a pointless blame game.
JoAnne McGregor, a professor of human geography at
Sussex University and Kudzai Chatiza, director of the Hara-
re-based Development Governance Institute, recently released
findings of a study titled Geographies of Urban Dominance:
The Politics of Harare’s Periphery.
They found that in opposition-supporting cities, where the
ruling party has failed to dominate overall, it can nonetheless
control certain spaces — in the Harare case, pieces of land,
new settlements and central markets.
It is clear that Harare’s chaotic housing scene — which has
seen desperate home-seekers falling prey to corrupt land bar-
ons — is the logical outcome of the governance failings of
both Zanu PF and the MDC. Citizens must learn from this
episode.

As the world reels from the impact of Covid-19, reports have shown that all types of violence against women and zw
girls have intensified and in a special report titled ‘Rights in Crisis: A Human Rights Analysis of the COVID-19
Pandemic in Zimbabwe’, highlights the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Women and Girls in Zimbabwe.
The report notes that in Zimbabwe, gender-based violence thrives on societal and cultural practices that accept
the domination of women by men, especially in the home. Intimate partner violence is the most common and is
fuelled by practices entrenched in patriarchal societal relations. The scourge of gender-based violence worsened
due to the Covid-19 induced lockdown which has seen women and in some cases men, being trapped in abusive
relationships thus fanning the fires of domestic violence. The United Nations notes that it’s Zimbabwean GBV sub
