KATA PENGANTAR

Puji syukur kami panjatkan kehadirat Tuhan Yang Maha Esa karena dapat
terselesaikannya modul Bahasa Inggris Kelas VIII Semester Ganjil SMP Negeri 32 OKU. Modul
ini bertujuan untuk membantu siswa SMP dalam memahami Bahasa Inggris. Kami berharap
bahwa modul ini juga dapat menambah referensi bagi siswa SMP dalam pembelajran Bahasa
Inggris

Dalam modul ini memuat tentang uraian materi-materi dan latihan-latihan soal. Kami
berusaha menyusun modul Bahasa Inggris Kelas VIII SMP ini sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa
dan guru sehingga dapat terjadi kegiatan belajar mengajar yang lebih komunikatif dan optimal.

Akhirnya, Penulis ingin mengucapkan terima kasih yang sebesar-besarnya kepasa Kepala
SMP Negeri 32 OKU Ibu Yanti, S.Pd., MM atas bantuan bimbingan, motivasi, dan dorongannya

1. ASKING AND GIVING INFORMATION RELATED TO OBLIGATIONS.

 Asking and Giving Information related to obligation (Must)

 Faktual : Jenis teks : Teks transaksional ungkapan meminta dan memberikan informasi terkait
keharusan

 Konseptual :

a) Fungsi Sosial : Menjada hubungan interpersonal dengan guru dan teman

b) Struktur teks :

 What must I do?

 We must return home before it rains.

 You must study hard or you’ll fail the exam.

 She must do her exercise alone.

c) Unsur kebahasaan :

1. Tata bahasa : Subject + must + verb base

2. Subject + must not + verb base

3. Kata kerja : do, return, etc.

4. Kata sifat : quiet, nice

5. Kosakata : home, fail, exercise, open, go, play, walk, etc.

6. Ungkapan-ungkapan respon seperti: sure, alright, I’m sorry, etc.

7. Ucapan, tekanan kata, intonasi, ejaan, dan tanda baca.

 Obligation (Keharusan) adalah kaliat yang menjelaskan kewajiban seseorang atas suatu hal. Rumus
yang digunakan yaitu subject + must + bare infinitive.

 Must has a meaning similar to Should. Except that it’s a much stronger word. It is used when we want

to emphasize the necessity of doing (or not doing) something. Must represents more of an obligation,
while Should represent a recommendation. Must expresses a strong obligation or necessity. It often
shows us that the obligation comes from the speaker (or the authority that wrote the sentence).
 Examples:
 I must phone my dad. It's his birthday today.
 (Teacher to student) You must hand in your homework on Tuesday or you will lose ten per cent of
your mark.
 (Sign on a plane) Seat belts must be worn by all passengers.
 Everyone must stay at home during this Covid-19 pandemic.
*Note that we don't use must to express obligation in the past. We use have to instead.

Materi Pembelajaran : Asking and Giving Information related to prohibition (Must not)

 Prohibition (Larangan) merupakan ekspresi untuk memperingatkan orang lain untuk tidak
melakukan sesuatu atau melarang. Prohibiton Sentence terbagi kedalam dua jenis, yaitu verbal
prohibition atau larangan verbal (mengandung kata kerja) dan Nominal Prohibition atau larangan
nominal (tidak mengandung kata kerja).

 Prohibition (Larangan) adalah kalimat yang menjelaskan larangan seseorang atas suatu hal.
Rumus yang digunakan yaitu subject + must not+ bare infinitive.

You must not sleep in the classroom

You must not be noisy

Materi Pelajaran : Recommendations (Should)

 Should digunakan untuk memberikan saran (suggestions). Yang namanya saran sifatnya tidak
wajib berbeda dengan obligation/kewajiban/keharusan.

 Pattern/pola:
S + should + V1
S + Should be + Adjective/noun/adverb

 Contoh:
Susi should drink medicine to get well soon (Susi sebaiknya minum obat supaya cepat
sembuh)
You should be calm in the classroom
