FAMILY
The Beers Family
The Beers' story begins with an infertility battle of 7 years.
In May 2016, Christian & Brenda found out they were
pregnant. At 19 weeks, Brenda's water broke. Doctors sent
her home on bedrest with no clear answers about the future
of her pregnancy. 5 days later, Brenda was readmitted to
the hospital. Kayle Barbara Arleene Beers was born 45
minutes later, weighing in at 10 ounces & 9.5 inches long.
Kayle came into the world stillborn, too little at 22 weeks
and 3 days.
In December of 2017, Brenda & Chris became pregnant
again. A month later, ER doctors suggested that the Beers’
were experiencing a miscarriage and to follow up with her
OBGYN. Brenda found out she suffered from a hematoma
that was causing bleeding, but baby was fine. After another
hospital trip, Brenda was placed on hospital bedrest at 23
weeks. On May 26th, Eulalia Marilyn Concetta Beers was
born weighing 2 pounds 3 ounces, and coming in at 13.5
inches. She was put on a RAM nasal cannula, had a UVC
and UAC Central Line, phototherapy for jaundice, PICC
line, and a feeding tube. She was finally allowed to go
home on July 20th, with a heart monitor she had to wear 24
hours a day.
As the 2020 Erie Signature Chefs Ambassador Family, they
will share their story and help raise awareness and funds in
support of healthier moms and stronger babies. They hope
their story can help March of Dimes level the playing field
for all moms and babies, no matter their age, socio-
economic background or geographical location.
FUND THE MISSION Placeholder ad spacing
THE CRITICAL MISSION OF MARCH OF DIMES
March of Dimes was born out of a national health pandemic, and
today there’s no organization better positioned to meet people
where they are right now. The focus of our work has evolved over
the last 80 years—from finding a polio vaccine to our current fight
for healthy moms, strong babies and health equity— but the need
for our vital work remains a constant.
As we find our nation in the midst of COVID-19, the relevance and
importance of what we do is more critical than ever. It all starts—
literally— with moms. Today, we’re meeting families where they
are by advocating for policies to protect moms and babies, working
to radically improve the health care they receive, pioneering
research to find solutions and empowering families with knowledge
and tools to have healthy pregnancies.
MEETING MOMS, BABIES, AND FAMILIES
WHERE THEY ARE
March of Dimes has taken a leading role in protecting the health of
moms and babies during the COVID-19 pandemic by expanding
virtual programs to support pregnant women, providing critical
medical supplies—including blood pressure cuffs and masks—to
families, and funding research and advocacy efforts to ensure the
unique needs of pregnant women are met during this health crisis.
Black women are 3 times more likely than White women to die
from pregnancy- related causes nationwide. March of Dimes is
taking bold actions to address this issue through training programs
for health care providers and by working closely with state and
federal lawmakers and agencies to find solutions to the nation’s
crisis around health equity.
