SAMPLE CONFERENCE SCHEDULE Who can go to the National Catholic Youth Conference?
(2017 Schedule not yet released) The National Catholic Youth Conference is open to youth ages 14-18 and who are
still in high school. A memo is provided for youth who need documentation to help
facilitate receiving an excused absence from school to attend NCYC. Adults (25 and
older) are able to attend as chaperones for groups of youth.

What is the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC)?
The National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC for short) is a biennial gathering of
high school youth from around the United States. It is an opportunity for you to
experience the true universality of the Catholic Church by praying, going to Mass,
and experiencing Christ in Reconciliation and Adoration with other Catholics from
around the country. NCYC always attracts some of the biggest and best known
Catholic speakers and musicians, and brings them together to share their time and
experiences with you in break-out sessions and workshops. There are also plenty of
opportunities for you to get to know other people from different regions of the U.S.
Entertainment includes concerts, a dance, a comedy club as well as interactive
exhibits.

Ultimately, NCYC is a weekend get-together with you, the Holy
Trinity, and 25,000 of your closest friends!

When is NCYC?
This year, NCYC is being held Thursday, November 16 through Saturday, November
18, 2017. We will come home Sunday, November 19, 2017.

Where is NCYC being held this year?
Indianapolis, IN is playing host to NCYC once again! Lucas Oil Stadium and the
Indiana Convention Center will be the meeting sites for 25,000 Catholic youth from
across the country.

Why should I go to NCYC?
NCYC is a great opportunity for you to meet other Catholic youth from around the
United States while at the same time entering into a deeper relationship with Christ
and His Church. It is an experience unlike almost any other event because you will
be surrounded by 25,000 other Catholic youth that want to become more engaged
in their faith and Church. NCYC attracts some of the most well known Catholic
speakers, so the presentations are always top of the line and engaging.

How can I register for NCYC and how will I get there?
To register for NCYC, speak with your parish youth minster!

The NCYC Pilgrimage Experience
How beautiful it is that you and your youth have been called to partake on this
journey of faith together. It is so important to stress to your pilgrims the
purpose of a pilgrimage and to give them the tools necessary to make the NCYC
a life-changing experience. Below, you will find a very simple start-up guide to
making the NCYC experience more than just a vacation; this is by no means an
extensive how-to guide for pilgrimages, but rather a starting point. You should
reference the NCYC website, the NCYC delegation leader for your parish or
diocese, and local leadership as you develop a pilgrimage plan.

What Is A Pilgrimage Anyway?
“A pilgrimage differs from a tour in several important ways. It is a personal
invitation from God, comprised of His offer and dependent upon the pilgrim’s
acceptance. God’s call may vary but the purpose remains consistent: It is an
individual summons to know God more fully. A pilgrimage is a spiritual journey
to which the pilgrim joyfully responds ‘yes’ to God’s invitation.
“Although in previous centuries many trials were intrinsic to a pilgrimage, the
modern pilgrim has an abundance of affordable travel options, yet the purpose
remains unchanged. It is a journey to a holy, sacred place to usher the pilgrim
into the presence of God.”
“The pilgrim must embark on this journey with joyful anticipation, being willing
temporarily to separate himself or herself from the world and to offer himself
or herself in humble service to another. A successful pilgrimage involves a
commitment to leave behind one’s problems and to focus instead on seeking to
learn more about our heavenly Father, making one’s heart full of desire for
special graces, praises, petitions and thanksgiving, returning home transformed,
renewed and restored by the abundant blessings received.”

Goals of a Pilgrimage:
The goals of a pilgrimage, especially for youth, should reflect the general goals
for youth ministry found in Renewing the Vision. As a reminder, those goals are:
 To draw young people into responsible participation in the life, mission,

and work of the faith community
 To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus in our world today
 To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person
