If this is your first time to log in, you will need to create a password.
Passwords must be at least 8 characters and include at least one
letter and number. To log out, click on the setting icon next to your
name in the top right corner and choose the Sign Out option.

General Navigation: Tabs

Tabs across the top of the screen will provide information on the
data available.

Most screens within Tango Trends show items in a list. This list is
called the “grid view.”

General Navigation: Main Menu

To navigate back to a previous screen, use the browser’s Back
button.

To navigate back to the beginning of Trends, click on the gears icon
on the left side, and select Maintenance.

General Navigation: Assessment Type Selection

Select the type of assessment to be viewed.

• KENTRO – local (teacher, campus, district) assessments
released through the Kentro editor

• STAAR – data from the State of Texas Assessments of
Academic Readiness

• TELPAS – data from the Texas English Language Proficiency
Assessment System

• LION – data from the Learning Inventory of Need assessment

General Navigation: Date Range

By default, Trends will show the assessments that have a release
date within the last 30 days. To change the date range, either select
from the pull-down list, or select the calendar icon to the right of
the pull-down list.

The calendar icon will bring up a calendar where the start and end
dates may be selected.

Once the dates have been selected, click on the Go button.

General Navigation: Item Selection

To select an item for more detail, click on the arrow next to the
left of the item

To select more than one item, click on the number next to the item,
or the box above the numbers to select/de-select all. Once the
selections have been made, use the button in the bottom left corner
to view the selected items.

To clear the selections, click on the x next to the selected items.

General Navigation: Filtering

Whenever the grid view is visible, each column has a filter box
above where one or more values within that column may be
selected. For example, on the list of students shown here, filtering
may be done on any of the fields shown. Searches may be done by
either typing in the desired information (wildcards “%” are
functional) or using the pull-down menus.

General Navigation: Sorting

Each grid can be sorted by the columns. Start with the first level of
sort by clicking on the bar to the right of the column name. This
will mark the column with a 1. Click this column again to reverse
the order. Then, select the additional levels of sort by following the
same steps. The numbers referenced will show the order of the sort.

General Navigation: Printing Reports

Most screens within Tango Trends show a Print button in the top
right corner. This button allows for the generation of a PDF
document based on the filters chosen. Some screens limit the
number of records that may be selected for printing.

When a staff member is selected, their students’ performance on the
TEKS may be seen. Using the calendar picker, select the assessment
to be viewed, and then the classes’ TEKS mastery for that assessment
is shown below.

Main Tab Set: Students

All users will see the list of students. Users may select a student to
drill-down to view and edit their information, including
demographics, class schedule, and TEKS report card.

Student Info Tab

When a student is selected, their information is displayed and may
be edited. To edit any of the information displayed, make the
change, and then select the Save button.
Below the information about the student is shown the complete
assessment list for that student. The assessments are color coded:

Student Report Card Tab

By default, the English Language Arts report card is displayed. To
see additional report cards, select the subject from the top menu.

Each report card lists the TEKS skills that have been assessed, and
the overall mastery level. To view the expectations associated with
that skill, click on the skill.

Use the button to view the description of the skill or expectation.

Student Report Card-Prev. Year Tab

By default, the English Language Arts report card is displayed. To
see additional report cards, select the subject from the top menu.

Main Tab Set: Assessment Comparison

To compare multiple assessments, select the assessments, and then
select on the Compare button at the bottom of the screen.

This will display a Compare tab at the top of the page with the
number of assessments selected.

When the Compare tab is selected, an aggregation is shown for the
assessments selected.

The Compare tab also shows the percentage of students passing as
compared to the others selected. The average passing and failing
scores are shown as call-outs to the right.

Quintile Distribution

STAAR vs. Assessment Quintile

Comparison of students’ results for the last STAAR result loaded and

For example, the 1 located at the intersection of Quintile III and Level
III, is a single student that scored commended on the STAAR
assessment and within Quintile III on this current assessment. The 3
students located at the intersection of STAAR Level I and Quintile V,
are students who failed the STAAR test, but are now scoring in the
highest quintile for this assessment.

Kentro Documents

Documents are sets of questions. This can be an
assessment, or a set of questions being submitted to
an item bank.

Add Document

You must complete all of the required fields, but the
critical ones are: SUBJECT, GRADE LEVEL and
DEFAULT QUESTION TYPE. You will not be able to
change those after the document is created.

If you are doing questions for multiple subjects
and/or grade levels, a new document must be
created.

All questions will be in multiple choice format, with
a default item count of 4, and a multiple choice
format of “ABCDE;FGHJK.”

The last item is for the number of items in the
document. This does not need to be exact, as you
may add (or remove) questions as needed.

Once all required fields are complete, select the Add
button.

Open Document

Once the document is created, double-click on the
document on the right side to enter the document
content.

In order for assessments to be analyzed for TEKS
mastery, each question must be tagged with a TEKS
expectation.

1. Select the School Level of the TEKS to be
assigned to the question.

2. Select the subject.
3. Select the grade level.

4. Select the TEKS Skill from the list. 4

5. Select the Expectation from the list. When 5
the Expectation is chosen, if it corresponds to 6
at least one STAAR Reporting Category, the
Reporting Category will be displayed.

Please Note: the item is NOT tagged at this
point. You must continue to tag a keyword
before the question is tagged with a TEKS
Expectation.

6. Select the Keyword from the list. All TEKS
have a #No Keyword option, but this should
only be chosen with the question is not
available.

Remove a TEKS Tag

To remove a tag, select the item to be cleared and
click on the Remove Tag button.

Copy TEKS Tagging

If all questions in a document should have the same
TEKS Expectation, select on the question that has the
correct TEKS Expectation/Keyword tagged and then
click on the Copy to All button.

Passages Tab

Stories and Poems

Reading and Writing questions will most likely
include a text passage to which the students will
refer for answering questions.

To add a passage, select the Add Passage button.

One the passage has been added, select either the CONFIDENTIAL Page 25 of 39
Story or Poem buttons to add a Story or Poem block.
Information blocks are used to introduce a passage.

Enter the text of the story or poem in the blocks.

Enter the question numbers in the From Question
and To Question fields that correspond to the text
in the passage.

Above the blocks, text formatting may be done to
make the text bold, italicized, or underlined. The
text may also be justified to the right, left, or center.

Images may be added to stories and poem blocks.
For more information on adding images, please see
the Adding Kentro Images section.

• To remove a Story or Poem block, click on the
x on the left of the block.

• To move a block up or down, use the arrows
to the left of the block.

• To put a box around the entire block, click on
the page icon on the left of the block. One
click puts a bold black border on the block.

Essays and Short Answers

Essays (for Writing) and Short Answers (for English I
and II Reading) must be tagged as an Essay.

To add an essay, click on the Add Essay button.

One the essay has been added, select the Info
buttons to add the information about the essay
question. Enter the text in the block.

Enter the question numbers in the From Question
and To Question fields that correspond to the text
in the passage.

Above the blocks, text formatting may be done to
make the text bold, italicized, or underlined. The
text may also be justified to the right, left, or center.

Images may be added to the blocks. For more

Q & A Tab

Question & Answers

All subjects and grade levels will use the Q & A tab for entering the
multiple choice questions and their corresponding answers.
All questions will be multiple choice.
The question text goes in the gray box.
The answer information goes in the white boxes below.
To mark the correct answer, select the letter button, which will mark
the answer with a green highlight.
Images may be added to questions and/or answers. For more
information on adding images, please see the Adding Kentro Images
section.

Adding, Deleting, and Moving Questions

To add a question, go to the question before the question you want
to add and tap on the question number. Then select the Add a
Question button from the popup.
To delete a question, tap on the question number of the one to be
deleted and select the Delete Question button.
To move a question, tap on the question number of the item to be
moved, and then enter the question number it is to become.
Once a document has been released, questions may only be
omitted, not deleted or moved.

Place Value Questions

To create a griddable item, change the question type
to Place Value. For EOC assessments use the
Advanced Place Value type.

Enter the answer into the box with the appropriate
0s padding the answer.

Essay Questions

To create a rubric for scoring essay questions, change
the question type to Essay 26 lines. Make this choice
for both 26 line and 10 line essay questions.

Select the number of scores that will be required. If
two scorers are going to score the essay, move the
slider to 2.

Select the number of rubric options which are to be
used for scoring the essay. It is suggested that all
rubrics include a 0 option for those entries where
nothing scoreable was submitted.

The ORANGE-bordered box indicates the label of
the rubric.

The BLACK-bordered box indicates the score value
for the rubric choice.

Adding Kentro Images

Images loaded into Kentro must be in jpg format.
There are many converters available for changing
images from other image types to jpgs.

To load a picture, select on the Upload Image icon in
the toolbar at the top of the page.
Click on the Select an Image button at the bottom of
the page and search for the jpg image saved on your
computer.

When the image is selected, the Upload button is
available. Click on the Upload button

The image will be uploaded. It is only safe to close
out of the upload screen when the upload is
successful.

To add the image to a passage, question, or answer, CONFIDENTIAL Page 29 of 39
select the Add Image button from the toolbar at the
top of the page.

Select the image from the list. The image can then
be centered otherwise justified.

Question Tags Tab

Questions may be marked as having been taught,
and with several different Levels of Knowledge.
Kentro has the capacity to tag questions with Depth
of Knowledge, Blooms Taxonomy, and the Rigor &
Relevance Framework.

For each question use the pull-down menus to select
the appropriate Level of Knowledge.

Generating PDFs and Blueprints

Documents may be generated to view the final
product.

Open the document, and click on the PDF button.

The TEKS/STAAR analysis of the document may be
viewed as compared to the TEA blueprints.

Open the document, and click on the Blueprint
button.

PDF Documents will be available in the PDF node on
the left side of the tree.

Blueprints will be available in the Blueprints node on
the left side of the tree.

Special Characters & Formatting

Math/Science Formulas

Math and science documents might need fractions,
formulas, or other special characters.

Use the website
http://www.wiris.net/demo/editor/demo/en/ to create
the formula. Select on the MathML – LaTeX
section.

Copy and paste the formula from the LaTeX box.

In Kentro, the codes must be surrounded preceded
“@[“ and followed by “]@” (quotes not included).

Text Boxes

To place a box around text in a question, enclosed
the text in “[#” and “#]”.

For example: [#Red sandstone is a type of rock with

Release the Document

Select the Release tab in Kentro, and then click on the
Create New Release button.

Requirements for Release

To release an assessment:
• Each item must have an answer choice
selected
• Know the date the assessment window will
open (all assessments stay open for 14 days)
• Know the passing and commended (optional)
score
• Know the target student population

Release Properties Part I

Release Date Use the calendar picker to select the date
Assessment Type when the assessment window opens. All
Release By assessments will automatically close after 14
days if not closed manually.
Grade
Level/Chapter Based on assessment type when created.
Benchmark This value may not be changed during
Reference release, but is shown for reference purposes.

Student Target Grade level – for assessments where
students for a grade level should be
Language targeted (i.e. 8th Grade Math)
Chapter – for assessments where students
enrolled in a particular subject covered by a
TEKS Chapter should be targeted (i.e.
Geometry)

Based on the previous Release By value, the
grade level or chapter for targeting
students.

Classes which should hold the students who
are targeted for the assessment. When
roster files are loaded, each class is assigned
a benchmark reference. For example, a core
math class would have a benchmark
reference code of “MA” for math.
However, a tutorial math class would have a
benchmark reference of “NA” which means
it is not a benchmarked class.

Type of student targeted by the release –
Regular, Modified, Accommodated,
Alternate.
Students are coded for each subject area in
the BAS Student Assignment tab of Tango
Central.

Language of student targeted by the release
– English or Spanish.

Assessment Details Displays the information about the
assessment based on the number of items.

Passing Criteria Percentage score, out of 100, for a student’s
Score responses to be considered passing.

Passing Bubble Number of items above and below the
Items passing score which are considered to be in
the bubble.

Commended Option If a commended score is to be evaluated,
enable the commended option.

Commended Percentage score, out of 100, for a student’s
Criteria Score responses to be considered commended.

Display Score Enable this option if a student should be

Release Target

After all properties have been set, click on the Target tab to select
the campus(es) that should be targeted for the release.
Once released, campuses may be added, but may NOT be removed.

Once all information for a Kentro Release has been tagged, click on
the Add button at the bottom of the page.

Release Listing

After a release has been added, it will be displayed on the Release
tab. The main properties of each release are shown.
Releases highlighted orange are those which are in the past.
Releases highlighted green are those which are within 24 hours.
Releases highlighted blue are those in the future (and the release
properties may be modified).

ETAZO Login Options

Student entry is done on etazo.tangosoftware.com website.

Student option is best for input stations that are not monitored by a teacher
Monitor option is best for input stations that are monitored by a teacher or in a
lab setting where all students are entering information for the same assessment
Writing Scorer option is for entering rubric scores for writing and short answer
compositions.

Student Login

District ID is found on the Inventory tab of Tango Central.
Assessment ID is found on the BAS tab of Tango Central.
Student ID is found on the Maintenance tab of Tango Central.

Monitor Login

District ID is found on the Inventory tab of Tango Central.
Assessment ID is found on the BAS tab of Tango Central.
Login Email/Password is setup on the Maintenance tab of Tango Central.
Once a monitor logs in, the student will only enter their student id.

Electronic Bubble Sheet

Items are separated in groups of 5 to assist the student in transposing their
answers from the paper to the screen.

During the release of the assessment, there are three options which may be
chosen.

These options drive how the Etazo app functions.
• Display Score – Enable this option if a student should be able to see
their score immediately after they submit their responses.
• Display Missed Items – Enable this option if a student should be able
to see the items they missed immediately after they submit their
responses. They will not see what the correct answer is, only that it was
answered correctly or incorrectly.
• Allow Incomplete – This option is available for administration using
Etazo web only. Enable this option if a student is allowed to submit their
answers without providing an answer for each item.

If an incomplete assessment IS ALLOWED, the student will be warned that they
are about to submit the assessment with unanswered questions.

If an incomplete assessment IS NOT ALLOWED, the student must either complete
the assessment, or save it to be completed at a later time.

Once the assessment is submitted, the student will get a confirmation pop-up
message.

If the Display Score option is selected, the student’s score will be displayed, along
with the elapsed time to enter their responses.

If the Display Missed Items option is selected, the student’s responses will be
either green or red to show the result of each item.

Clearing Scores

To clear a student’s score, sign the student in and then click on the NG (no
grade) button.

This will allow the student to be rescored.

Writing Rubric Scoring

For staff who will be scoring the writing rubrics, their login credentials must be
assigned in the Maintenance tab on Tango Central.

Once logged in, scorer will:

1. Click on the rubric for scoring
2. Enter the student’s ID
3. Click on the Submit button

All recorded results are displayed on the left. To modify a result, click on the
Edit button.
