As a unique school in the PVUSD District, SPS+ designed 35,000 SF new additions and approximately 7,000 SF of renovations for Roadrunner ES. The school wraps around the site to create an interior courtyard where the new library and media center can be accessed. Each wing consists of small classrooms with high ceilings that tie into the large overhang over the exterior circulation. This provides shade and creates place within each community. The new classrooms are adjacent to many resource rooms for student learning spaces. ROADRUNNER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ADDITION AND RENOVATION

EAST VALLEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (EVIT) EAST CAMPUS ADDITION & RENOVATIONS The 10-acre campus is adjacent to ASU Polytechnic and houses EVIT’s Aviationand Future Engineers programs, the East Campus Academy for Cosmetic Arts, and several School of Health Sciences programs, including the Veterinary Assistant program. The SPS+ Team focused on flat floors, largerooms, and avoiding any features that would restrict future changes to thespace. For example, rather than dig pits for vehicles in the automotive repair training centers, we spend a little more to obtain lists that allowed the spaces to stay truly flexible.

Inspiration Mountain Elementary is located in the Stetson Valley community, just Northeast of Ludden Mountain. The Exterior colors were selected to integrate and compliment the adjacent mountain and foothills. Taking lessons from the previous schools, the design team developed a strategy to improve the design with the largest focus being on the courtyard spaces. The courtyards were designed to provide the necessary fire access, while providing visual interest and functional spaces utilizing concrete shapes and patterns, concrete seating walls, fabric shade structures, and artificial turf areas. One of the first priorities for our team was saving as much of this historically significant school as possible since it was designed by Ralph Haver, an early Arizona architect and developer. The result of our efforts was a 68,327 SF renovation with a new addition of 32,579 SF that fully modernized this K-5 School. Demolition of 5 of the 11 buildings made space for the new additions of administration, media center and multipurpose buildings, extended drop-off lanes, parking, and updated playgrounds.
