A true friend is someone who lifts you up and challenges you
to be better in everything you do. With this, a tandem is created. In
the field of sports, this is most likely a success factor. So, when two
young commercial talents of popular morning-energy drinks (Milo and
Alaska) and at the same time skilled promising athletes work together,
an extra-ordinary realization is achieved.
James and Enzo are perfect example of a good partnership likened to
two wheels of a bicycle. Both young boys are products of the same school – La
Salle Green Hills. They are also of the same grade level (Grade 6) but they belong
to different sections. Aside from the aforementioned commonalities, they also
have positive characteristics in common. Their faces radiate with determination,
passion and love for basketball. Their sparkling eyes are focused in the same goal –
to win in every game. And most importantly, they both consider their heart in playing.
James Yuan G. Ison, started to play basketball as early as three years old. His father
inspired him initially and he was the first coach. His love for the game deepens as the
training gets tougher. He was in Grade 2 when he was scouted by the Batang PBA then he
transferred to La Salle Green Hills when he was in Grade. He was given scholarship which
motivated him even more in the field of basketball and in his academics. His high grades were
maintained as what he does to his passion in playing basketball. Last year, he was discovered by
the Alaska through try out. He has the strong confidence that he has the experience skill and love for basketball and to his
amazement; he was luckily chosen to be the Alaska Milk Commercial Model in May 2017. James may have
reached so far and high but his feet still remains in the ground because humility reigns in him. His
inspiration is his family, who have supported him throughout. “I support James in all aspect of his life
and in all his dreams. We are always here for him”, his mother exclaimed. James is a petite basketball
player compared to his team mates but his dream is even bigger than him. His ultimate dream is to
be a player of the PBA.
Heart, skills, fighting spirit and optimism – these are the secret values James possesses.
Like what his commercial says, “Wala pa ring tatalo sa Alaska”.
Another equally skilled player is Lorenzo Bryan “Enzo” Competente. The last name
itself speaks of his capability in the basketball court. He defended his competence by
hitting the most-aspired title-MVP during the Small Basketeer of the Philippines in
2017. He was discovered by the Milo Team and was chosen to be the Milo Commercial
model. He is a silent-type boy but very friendly and easy-going. 2018 Palarong
Pambansa might be a first-time experience but for him, it’s already an opportunity
and a start of the realization of his dream. Enzo wants to accomplish the feat
that his father alaways wanted during his younger years, which is to become a
basketball player. The main reason his father sacrifices and focuses in a one-
on-one training with his child every after school. Aside from his extra-
ordinary skills and competence in the basketball court, Enzo maintains
his fair grades in order to sustain his varsity scholarship. It’s not only his
academics and extra-curricular achievement that he upholds but also
the importance of his health. He believes that a healthy and proper
food intake will provide him a better performance.
James and Renzo are a both achievers and ready to take
the same path, the same goal and the same dream. They may
differ in built but they have the same height in terms of their
aspiration and dream in life. They are commercials of
different products but they share in the advertisement
of values and virtues.

“Always Ready!” This is the motto of Boy and Girl Scouts of the Philippines,
and speaking of scouts, the University of Northern Philippines-Laboratory School
(UNP-LS) Boy and Girl Scouts are among those busy volunteers behind the 2018
PALARONG PAMBANSA in Ilocos Sur assisting the PALARO Awards Committee during
the awarding ceremonies in every sports event and in every playing venue.
Composed of 20 Boy Scouts and 21 Girl Scouts, you could see the untiring
efforts of UNP-LS scouts during the awarding ceremonies wherein they are in-
charge in raising the official flag of the region being represented by the winning
athlete. They also serve as usher of the guests, and among others.
“Besides of our part in PALARO, we did also extension services like: held
tree planting in nearby community, introduced Herbary in Caparacadan, Caoayan,
Ilocos Sur; conducted feeding program in Santa, Ilocos Sur; and among others,”
said Mr. Raffy Celedonio, UNP-LS Boy Scouts outfit advisor .
The participation of the UNP-LS Boy and Girl Scouts in the PALARO is just
part of the continued moral and character building and citizenship training among
the Filipino youth. They were also active in scouting events like, camping or
joining in the jamboree and doing community-extension services.
The UNP-LS already produced
Chief Girl Scouts—the highest rank for

and field adviser of UNP-LS Girl
Scouts.
Truly, scouting is really fun, but the
involvement of more youth and adults
in scouting requires also the sustained
and continued support of every citizen.
Based on the Boy Scouts of the
Philippines’ record, scouting in the
country was introduced by the
Americans in 1910 and the earliest
recorded all-Filipino troop was
organized in Zamboanga by Sherman
Kiser, a young second lieutenant through
the sponsorship of Mrs. Caroline
Spencer, an American widow who was
in the country at that time (1914) doing
charity works with the people of Sulu.
The scouts’ troop was composed of 26
Muslim boys and was known as
Lorillard Spencer Troop in honor of Mrs.
Spencer’s son who was an active scout
in America.
From the early troops in 1914, the
BSP prides itself today as one of the
largest scout organizations in the world,
and the scouts of UNP-LS council who
served the 2018 Palarong Pambansa are

“Bawat butil ng pawis Bawat iyak at hinagpis
Bawat hampas ng alon
Atletang Pinoy, tumatayo, bumabangon.”
Makahulugan at
Mancao, tubong Looc, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.
Sittie.
Ligtas, Rico Sumastre, Vicente del Puerto, Ramir Valerio at Cherry Cabiluna,
balang araw.
