In 2018 Cómpeta celebrated its 10th Art Walk!
En 2018 Cómpeta celebró su 10º Paseo del Arte!

The Art Walk 2018
While we are already on our way to the 11th edition of the Art Walk in 2019, we
first look back on the successful 10th edition in 2018! On the 31st of March and
the 1st, 3rd and 4th of April 2018 the art studios and other spaces
in Cómpeta opened their doors. Music filled the streets along with many people
with the Art Walk leaflet in their hands. It was a big cultural event for
the Axarquia region. People who loved art came to Cómpeta to enjoy all that
was offered over those few days.

El Paseo del Arte 2018

Mientras aún estamos en la senda del 11º Paseo del Arte echemos un vistazo
a la exitosa 10ª edición. El 31 de Marzo y los días 1, 3 y 4 de Abril de 2018, los
estudios de arte y otros espacios en Cómpeta abrieron sus puertas. La música
llenó sus calles y mucha gente estuvo paseando con su guía en mano. Se
trataba de un gran acontecimiento cultural en la comarca de la Axerquía. Gente
que es amante del arte vino a Cómpeta para disfrutar de todo lo que se ofrecía
en estos pocos días.

Both the art event and the village were very lucky to have 4 beautiful days
without rain and with sun. In total more than 35 international artists presented

their works! From far afield art-lovers came to the village, for example
from Marbella, Malaga, Almunecar, Granada etc. But of course also people
from many other countries were visiting the village. The impressive programme
was complemented by 7 live music performances. Most restaurants were fully
booked, and the musicians played happily for long hours!

El evento y el pueblo tuvieron ambos la suerte de disfrutar de cuatro días
soleados y sin lluvia. En total ¡mas de 35 artistas internacionales presentaron
sus obras! Desde muy lejos llegaron al pueblo amantes del arte, como por
ejemplo desde Marbella, Málaga, Almuñécar, Granada, etc. Pero por supuesto,
también gente de otros países visitaron el pueblo. El impresionante programa
fue completado por siete actuaciones musicales en vivo. Muchos restaurantes
estaban llenos y los músicos tocaron alegremente durante largas horas !!

Activities
The 5 workshops were successful, most of them were also fully booked. Pepe
gave an interesting raku ceramic workshop twice. Nikki Gruchy offered a
photography workshop. At Linda Roffel's workshop one could learn how to
paint with a palette knife.

Actividades

Los cinco talleres fueron un éxito, casi todos estuvieron totalmente llenos.
Pepe impartió un taller de cerámica raku dos veces. Nikki Gruchi ofreció un
taller de fotografía, en el taller de Linda Roffels se pudo aprender a pintar con
paleta.

New art in town
The English artist George Kowzan painted a design on panels inspired
by Lieuwke Loth's art. It is now installed permanently on the terrace wall of the
Teteria. Of course the restaurant owners are grateful for this new colourful
addition!

El artista inglés George Kowzan pintó sobre unos paneles un dibujo inspirado
en el arte de Lieuwke Loth. Ahora está instalado en la pared de la terraza de
La Tetería. ¡Por supuesto, los dueños del restaurante están muy agradecidos

por este colorida aportación!

Kids of primary school involved in the Art Walk
Children of the primary school entered a colouring competition and all the
results were shown on the wall of the school. Lieuwke and George chose 5
beautiful ones. They were published in the Grapevine. The school received
French children books for in the library. That was the 'prize' for all the kids.
Niños de la escuela primaria participaron en el Paseo del Arte
Niños de la escuela primaria hicieron un certamen de 'colorear' y todos los
dibujos fueron expuestos en las paredes de la escuela. Lieuwke y George
eligieron cinco bonitos dibujos. Fueron Publicados en el 'Grapevine'. A los
niños se les entregaron libros de Francés en la librería. Ese fue el 'premio' para
todos los niños.

It brought a lot!
Restaurant owners and accommodation owners were happy with the amount of
people who came to the event. The village was vibrant. Artists were glad to be
able to show and also sell their art. Visitors were delighted to see so much art and
have the chance to talk with artists, they enjoyed the spectacular views, the good
atmosphere, the looks of the beautiful authentic streets and the good food in the
restaurants.
The press helped a lot to promote and announce the event. The Art Walk
organisation and artists are grateful for the support they received from the press
and the sponsors.
Some visitors discovered the beautiful, charming mountain village for the first time
and said they'll definitely come back next year and even book an overnight stay.
And we recently heard of a couple who bought a house in Competa, just because
they fell in love with the village during the Art Walk! We are very pleased to be
able to announce there will be an 11th Art Walk in 2019!

¡Esto trajo muchas cosas!

Los propietarios de restaurantes y alojamientos estuvieron muy contentos con
la cantidad de gente que acudió a este evento. El pueblo estaba muy animado.
Los artistas también estaban felices de poder mostrar y vender su arte. Los
visitantes estaban encantados de ver tanto arte y de poder hablar con los
artistas, disfrutaron de las vistas espectaculares, del buen ambiente, del
aspecto de las bonitas y auténticas calles y de la buena cocina de los
restaurantes.

La prensa ayudó mucho a promocionar y a anunciar el evento. La organización
de Paseo del Arte y los artistas están agradecidos por el apoyo recibido de la

prensa y de los patrocinadores.

Algunos visitantes descubrieron por primera vez este bello y encantador pueblo
de montaña y dijeron que estaban dispuestos a volver el próximo año e incluso
reservar un alojamiento. Y recientemente hemos sabido de una pareja que
compró una casa en Cómpeta solo porque ¡se enamoraron del pueblo durante
el Paseo del Arte! ¡Estamos muy complacidos en anunciaros que habrá un 11º
Paseo del Arte en 2019!

Time for a change
Lieuwke Loth decided to stop organising it after 5 successful years. She
upgraded the event to a higher and more professional level with help of many
others. Now it attracts many people and art-lovers from a wide area and many
artists are eager to participate.

A call for somebody who could take over her job as organiser was sent out.
Unfortunately it was not possible to find a capable successor. Just because
Lieuwke doesn't want to lose the vibrant event for the village, she chose to go
on and welcome more skilled team members so that the amount of work can be
shared with others. At the moment the team is bigger than it ever was! :-) If you

Momento de cambio
Lieuwke Loth decidió dejar de organizar este evento después de cinco años de

éxito. Con la ayuda de otras personas elevó el evento a un nivel mas alto y
mas profesional. Ahora esto atrae a mucha gente y a amantes del arte de una
gran área y muchos artistas estan deseando participar.

Se hizo un llamamiento a quien pudiera retomar su trabajo como organizadora.
Lamentablemente no fue posible encontrar a un sucusor adecuado. Como no
quisiera que el pueblo pierda este animado evento, ella decidió continuar y
buscar unos miembros del equipo organizador mas prepardos, para compartir
con ellos la cantidad de trabajo. ¡De momento el equipo es mayor que nunca!

Art Walk 2019!
The dates for 2019 will be as usual concentrated around the Easter weekend.
So next year we hope to welcome everybody on:

SATURDAY APRIL 20
SUNDAY APRIL 21
TUESDAY APRIL 23
WEDNESDAY APRIL 24

All locations will be open between 11.00-14.30 and 16.00-20.00
Around the 42 international artists representing different nationalities will
present their works for the Art Walk Cómpeta! There will be workshops to
improve your own artistic skills, colourings for the primary school children and
the opportunity to see artists at work.
You are invited to meet the artist personally and admire the exhibited works of
art. You will see paintings, drawings, textile art, photographic art, ceramics,
stone, bronze, wood and steel sculptures at different venues! We'll welcome
four Dutch theater-students and we'll have a full music programme!

Please don't hesitate to forward this email to other art-lovers you know that

Paseo del Arte 2019!

Las fechas para 2019 estarán, como de costumbre, centradas en la Semana
Santa.
El próximo año les daremos la bienvenida los días:

SABADO 20 DE ABRIL
DOMINGO 21 DE ABRIL
MARTES 23 DE ABRIL
MIERCOLES 24 DE ABRIL

Todos los lugares estarán abiertos de 11.00 a 14.30 horas y de 16.00 a 20.00
horas.
Alrededor de 42 artistas representando a difrentes nacionalidades presentarán
sus obras en el Paseo del Arte de Cómpeta. Habrá talleres para que puedas
mejorar tus propias habilidades artísticas. Un certamen infantil de dibujo y la
oportunidad de ver a los artistas manos a la obra.
Te invitamos a un encuentro personal con los artistas y a admirar las obras

expuestas. Podrás ver pintura, dibujo, arte textil, arte fotográfico, cerámica,
pìedra, bronce, madera y esculturas de acero en diferentes lugares. Vendrán
cuatro estudiantes de teatro holandeses y tendremos un completo programa
musical.
Por favor, no dudes en reenviar este email a otros amantes del arte que
