The Alchemy of unity

There are no taboo topics in contemporary art. Unfortunately,
this global trend like a deep sea retains not only the beauty
of coral reefs - the freedom of creativity, but also the danger
of meeting sharp-toothed predators, i.e. becoming hostage
to destructive tendencies. In this case, who in the art world
will save the distressing morality, aesthetics and all the best
that makes the viewer kinder and smarter? Today the gallery
can assume this role. After all, it is the gallery that ultimately
determines what kind of art in the gallery space the audience
will come into contact with. Only a friendly artistic ecosystem,
which is based on a creative principle can provide the viewer
with the relevant ways of comfortable existence.
The new Zarenkov Gallery was specifically created to organize
and hold exhibitions that spread wisdom, beauty, inspiration
and hope by the most progressive means of self-expression,
including virtual reality. These criteria are fully met by the
international art project “Zarenkov Gallery . The art of
uniting”.
A creative dialogue among the artists from Russia, France and
Malaysia supported by the gallery of honorary philanthropist
of Saint-Petersburg Vyacheslav Adamovich Zarenkov also
involves the viewer in communication. The conversation
is based in such a way that the masters convincingly
demonstrate their talent, balancing among the paradoxes of
fantasy, inner meanings and self-sufficient perception of form.
The participants of the exhibition – Russian sculptor and
artist Gregory Pototsky, French abstract artist Jean-Luc Boun
and Malaysian painter Daniel Liau Wee Seng are proficient
in contemporary visual techniques. Searching for answers
to age-old questions, artists come up with new ways of
self-expression, innovative methods of interaction between
materials and forms.

В современном искусстве нет запретных тем. К сожалению,
этот глобальный тренд, как глубокое море, хранит в себе не
только красоту коралловых рифов – свободу творчества, но и
опасность встретить острозубых хищников, т.е. стать заложником
разрушительных тенденций. В таком случае, кто в арт-мире спасет
терпящие бедствие мораль, эстетику и все лучшее, что делает
зрителя добрее и умнее? Сегодня эту роль может и должна взять
на себя галерея. Ведь именно она, в конечном итоге, определяет,
с каким искусством в галерейном пространстве соприкоснется
аудитория. И только дружелюбная художественная экосистема,
в основе которой лежит созидающее начало, может предложить
зрителю актуальные способы комфортного существования.
Новое арт-пространство Zarenkov Gallery создано именно для
того, чтобы проводить выставки, распространяющие мудрость,
красоту, вдохновение и надежду самыми прогрессивными
средствами самовыражения, включая виртуальную реальность.
Этим актуальным критериям в полной мере соответствует
международный художественный проект «Zarenkov Gallery.
Искусство объединять».
Творческий диалог между художниками из России, Франции
и Малайзии, поддержанный галереей Почетного мецената
Санкт-Петербурга Вячеслава Адамовича Заренкова, вовлекает в
коммуникацию и зрителя. Разговор строится таким образом, что
мастера убедительно демонстрируют свой талант, балансируя
между парадоксами фантазии, внутренними смыслами и
самодостаточным восприятием формы.
Участники выставки - российский скульптор Григорий Потоцкий,
французский абстракционист Жан-Люк Бун и малазийский
живописец Дэниэль Ли Ви Сенг профессионально владеют
изобразительными техниками сегодняшнего дня. В поиске
ответов на извечные вопросы, мастера придумывают новые
способы самовыражения, новаторские методы взаимодействия
материалов и форм.

Working in bronze, sculptor Pototsky reveals the idea of
linearity as a symbol of lightning, piercing insight about
the presence of the Divine Spirit in everyday life. Curved
and deformed silhouettes of characters from myths and
literature (“The Abduction of Europa”), as well as images of
great figures of art (Stravinsky, Vysotsky, Chaplin) can cause
in an unprepared viewer bewilderment and even shock
accompanied with a vivid emotional experience.
Paintings by Jean-Luc Boun, consisting of pigments (only the
artist knows their nature), have a richly shining color scheme.
The play of color transitions and unexpected flashes of jewel-
like origin puts the significance of the laws of perspective out of
the way. The effect of contemplation seems to be described in
the theoretical work of Kazimir Malevich “On New systems in
art”:“under the blue sky our consciousness revolved, beating its
forehead against the protruding stars, the moon, the sun.”
Daniel Liau Wee Seng’s pictorial finds are figurative and
metaphorical. Each of his portraits carries an element of
rebellious originality in relation to the logic of common sense.
Any collective image (The light of hope, Impression of the
elderly, etc.) is created with good humor. Gently joking, the
artist seems to be declaring his love to a Human.
The exhibition “Zarenkov gallery. The Art of Uniting” is
charged not only with the energy of originality in its various
manifestations, but also with the meeting of cultures, which
are based on the polycentric idea of inheriting knowledge and
supporting the traditions of mentoring, sharing experience.
Liau Wee Seng is a disciple of Pototsky, as well as a spiritual
follower of Boun. A thread of continuity also distinguishes
the Zarenkov Gallery art-space, which has become a logical
continuation of the creative directions of Vyacheslav
Adamovich Zarenkov’s international project “The Creative
World”. The inheritance relay brings the gallery and the
international exhibition together, forming as a result a single
conceptual link.
The multiple unity of originality and the holistic unity of
continuity are the guiding ideas of the project, which has
become an alchemical elixir to solve the problem of global
disconnection of people, which has intensified due to the
coronavirus pandemic, and to find new viable tools for
intercultural understanding, harmonious coexistence of
various artistic forms and new methods of constructive
dialogue.

Работая в бронзе, скульптор Потоцкий, раскрывает идею
линеарности, как символа молниеносного, насквозь
пронзающего озарения о присутствии божественного Духа
в повседневности. Изогнутые, деформированные силуэты
персонажей из мифов и литературы («Похищение Европы»),
а также образы великих деятелей искусства (Стравинский,
Высоцкий, Чаплин) могут вызвать у неподготовленного
зрителя недоумение и даже шок, сопровождающийся ярким
эмоциональным переживанием.
Картины Жан-Люка Буна, на которых перетертая в пыль
драгоценная крошка и пигменты (состав которых знает только
художник), обладают насыщенно-сияющей колористической
гаммой. Игра цветовых переходов и неожиданных всполохов
ювелирного происхождения выносит за скобки значимость
законов перспективы. Эффект от созерцания, как будто, описан
в теоретической работе Казимира Малевича «О новых системах
в искусстве»: «под голубым небом вращалось наше сознание,
ударяясь лбом в торчащие звезды, луну, солнце».
Живописные находки Дэниэля Ли Ви Сенга образны и
метафоричны. Каждый его портрет несет в себе элемент
взбунтовавшейся оригинальности по отношению к логике
здравого смысла. Любой собирательный образ (The light of hope,
Impression of the elderly и др.) выполнен с добрым юмором. Мягко
подшучивая, художник будто объясняется в любви к Человеку.
Выставка «Zarenkov gallery. Искусство объединять» заряжена не
только энергией оригинальности в ее различных проявлениях,
но и встречей культур, в основе которых лежит полицентричная
идея наследования знаний и поддержка традиций
наставничества, передачи опыта. Ли Ви Сенг – ученик Потоцкого,
а также духовный последователь Буна. Нить преемственности
свойственна и арт-пространству Zarenkov Gallery, ставшему
логическим продолжением творческих направлений
международного Проекта Вячеслава Адамовича Заренкова
«Созидающий мир». Эстафета наследования роднит галерею
и международную выставку, образуя, таким образом, единое
концептуальное звено.
Множественное единство оригинальности и целостное
единство преемственности – руководящие идеи проекта,
ставшего алхимическим эликсиром для решения проблемы
глобальной разобщенности людей, усилившейся из-за пандемии
коронавируса, и для обретения новых жизнеспособных
инструментов межкультурного взаимопонимания, гармоничного
сосуществования и конструктивного диалога.

Gregory Pototsky

Russian sculptor and artist

Born in the GULAG, USSR in 1954. Lives in Podmoskovye
(Moscow region), works in Moscow in a workshop on
Gogolevsky Boulevard.
Gregory Pototsky, President and Founder of the International
Academy of Kindness, honorary academician of the Russian
Academy of Arts, member of the International Academy of
Information Technologies, corresponding member of the
Pedagogical Academy, member of the International Art
Association that works in partnership with UNESCO, member
of the Union of Artists of Russia, sculptor and artist.
The master’s paintings and sculptures were presented at
more than 160 exhibitions in Russia and abroad. The sculptor
created a gallery that includes about 120 bronze portraits of
prominent contemporaries.
The contribution of Gregory Pototsky to the culture
was repeatedly recognized with various awards: the M.
Lomonosov gold medal and order, the gold medal of the
Union of Artists of Russia, certificates and letters of gratitude
from the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the Presidential
Administration of Russia; he was awarded the title of
“Honorary Citizen of Russia”, Hero of Russia; among his
awards there are orders, medals and certificates of the US
Congress, the governments of Colombia, the Philippines,
Macedonia, Mexico and many other countries. Currently,
more than 150 of Pototsky’s sculptures have been installed in
50 countries of the world.
Pototsky is cramped within the narrow framework of
tradition, his sculptural vocabulary is extremely frank and
symbolizes a rebellious spirit striving to reach the heavens
and adoring the beauty of the world. The floating, elongated,
curved gestures of his linear compositions emphasize the
movement and energy. The master diligently explores the
connection of the human body and its soul with the universe.
And the picturesque silhouettes uniting masculine and
feminine principles (“Self-Portrait with a muse”, “Pototsky
and Love”) tell the viewer about the vulnerability of human
flesh, about its defenselessness and finiteness, about
pleasure and the loneliness associated with it, about the
beauty and variability of the world.

Картины и скульптуры мастера были представлены более

скульптор создал галерею, включающую около 120
бронзовых портретов выдающихся современников.
Вклад в культуру Григория Потоцкого был неоднократно
отмечен различными наградами: золотой медалью и
орденом имени М. Ломоносова, золотой медалью Союза
Художников России, грамотами и благодарственными
письмами Министерства культуры России и
Администрации Президента России; ему присвоены
звания «Почетный гражданин России», Герой России;
среди его наград – ордена, медали и грамоты конгресса
США, правительств Колумбии, Филиппин, Македонии,
Мексики и многих других стран. На сегодняшний день
более 150 работ Потоцкого установлены в 50 странах
мира.
Потоцкому тесно в узких рамках традиции, его
скульптурный словарь предельно откровенен и
символизирует мятежный дух, стремящийся дотянуться
до небес и преклоняющийся перед земной красотой.
Парящие, вытянутые, изогнутые жесты его линеарных
композиций подчеркивают движение и энергию.
Мастер кропотливо исследует связь человеческого
тела и его души с космосом. А живописные силуэты,
объединяющие мужское и женское начала («Автопортрет
с музой», «Потоцкий и любовь»), рассказывают зрителю
о уязвимости человеческой плоти, о её беззащитности
и конечности, о наслаждении и связанном с ним
одиночестве, о красоте и изменчивости мира.

The artist’s path is full of pain and tragedy. Thorns and nails symbolize the inevitability of the suffering of a real mas-
ter, whose work cannot always be appreciated by his contemporaries. And the key instead of the eye refers to the
idea of a unique vision of reality, subject only to a gifted individual - an artist who is able to imagine and then create
that which does not exist.

душ. Скульптурная композиция отсылает к фильму Гуэрры «Подсолнухи». Это дань уважения дружбе великого
кинорежиссера и актеров Марчелло Мастроянни и Софи Лорен. Кроме того, в скульптуре скрыт линеарный
портрет поэта и его жены Лоры. Композиция посвящена человеческому гению, таланту дружить и любить.

I was lucky enough to know Tonino personally. He was a brilliant poet, film director, subtle connoisseur of human
souls. The sculptural composition refers to Guerra’s film “Sunflower”. This is a tribute to the friendship of the great
film director and actors Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren. Moreover, there is a linear portrait of the poet and
his wife Laura hidden in the sculpture. The composition is dedicated to the human genius, the talent to be friends
and to love.

дорисовать его в своем воображении. Важна телепатическая связь художника и наблюдателя. Она возникает,
когда зритель видит мои работы и переживает из-за этого яркие эмоции.

I was looking for my way. And I found it in a line that can outline the volume and convey the image. I learned the pow-
er of the sign, which became the original source of my linear sculpture. I outline the silhouette and invite the viewer
to finish drawing it in their imagination. The telepathic connection between the artist and the observer is important.
It occurs when the viewer sees my work and experiences vivid emotions because of this.

послание, которое я хочу оставить тому миру, где уже не будет меня. Вот моя цель и смысл моей жизни.

How did the linear sculpture appear in my life and creative work?
We live in the age of cosmic speeds. Modern man has no time to cut stone, to look for semblance of nature in form.
Now we create our own worlds. The line is synonymous with my innermost thoughts. This is the message that I want
to leave to the world where I will no longer be.
This is my goal and the meaning of my life.

Моя линеарная скульптура материальна. И в этом ее физическая суть. Вместе с тем она глубоко философична.
И в этом ее пророчество. Созидающий дух, разумное сознание, божественная воля первичны. Считаю, что
все вышеперечисленное можно найти в великой литературе. Поэтому я трансформирую сюжеты классиков в
скульптурные композиции. «Яма» Куприна» – это пример моего священного разговора с Богом.

My linear sculpture is material. And this is its physical essence. At the same time, it is deeply philosophical. And this
is its prophecy. The creative spirit, intelligent consciousness, and divine will are primary. I believe that all of the above
can be found in great literature. Therefore, I transform the plots of the classics into sculptural compositions. “The pit.
Kuprin” is an example of my sacred conversation with God.

намёков и человек считывает образ. Это новый этап в области скульптуры. И если раньше мастер лепил форму,
чтобы сделать скульптуру максимально правдоподобной, то сегодня он воплощает в камне эмоцию и чувства,
которые его переполняют.

The consciousness of a modern man has advanced far ahead. Today a few signs and plastic allusions are enough to
make a person comprehend an image. This is a new chapter in the field of sculpture. If previously, an artist sculptured
a form to make a sculptural composition as realistic as possible, today an artist embodies in stone emotions and feel-
ings that overwhelm him.

Быть художником для меня не значит быть лучше или профессиональнее кого-то. Я живу вне соревновательных
контекстов. Мой мир таков, каким я его вижу. И именно таким я хочу оставить его в искусстве. Содержание
руководит моими творческими поисками. Мне чуждо искусство ради искусства, мило выглядящий кич. Поэтому
моя балерина не такая, какой мы видим ее на сцене в лучах софитов. Она измождена нечеловеческим трудом,
неизящна в своей физической боли. Тело ее изношено и при взгляде на него не вызывает чувства прекрасного.
Но фигура ее правдива и честна и тем прекрасна.

Being an artist for me does not mean being better or more professional than someone else. I live outside of compet-
itive contexts. My world is the way I see it. And that’s how I want to leave it in art. The content guides my creative
search. Both art for art’s sake and pretty kitsch are alien to me. For this reason, my ballet dancer is different from the
one we see on stage in the spotlight. She is exhausted by inhuman labor, and her inelegant exhaustion is manifested
in physical pain. Her body is worn out and looking at it does not evoke a feeling of beauty. But her figure is real and
true to life, and thus beautiful.

Jean-Luc Boun considers Zao Wou-Ki
to be his teacher. Zao’s talent and skill
are recognized all over the world.

impressionism style, paintings
by Jean-Luc Boun are kept in the
largest museums of modern art,
including the collections of museums
in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou,
Dalian, Qingdao. His abstract works
created under the influence of Zao
Wou-Ki and Paul Klee, absorb a lot of
colors. They seem to materialize the
Cosmos, in which, as in the Big Bang,
cosmic radiation uniformly fills the

Daniel Liau Wee Seng

Malaysian artist

Born in Ipoh, Malaysia in 1972.
Lives and works in Malaysia.
Daniel Liau Wee Seng is a member of the Asso-
ciation of Foreign Chinese Artists, member of
the French Association of Figurative Destructur-
alism, director and chairman of the Malaysian
branch of ICPAA. In 2016, at the request of the
Sultan of Selangor, he joined the Committee
of Cultural Integrations of the Royal Palace. In
the same year, Tsinghua University of China
appointed Liau Wee Seng as Cultural Affairs
Advisor of the Faculty of Fine Arts. In 2018-
2019, the artist was awarded a special prize at
the Malaysian Art Exhibition held as a part of
the SPIEF. Daniel is the first and so far, the only
one Malaysian artist who was selected by the
National Art Organizing Committee of China to
the Dahongpao artists of Tianjin Academy of
Fine Arts. This year, Liau Wee Seng was award-
ed the silver medal of the Tokyo Metropolitan
Art Museum exhibition; and also entered the
short list of the most influential artists in the
world according to the Beverly Hills Art Festival,
Los Angeles.
For creative self-expression Liau Wee Seng
chose the methods of abstract portrait and in-
nocent graffiti as ways of conducting a dialogue
in a visual language that is understandable to
the viewer. The non-figurative approach allows
the artist to build a confidential conversation
with a person of any cultural disposition. It
can be assumed that the origins of the artistic
tradition of Liau Wee Seng lie in the reinterpre-
tation of the photograms of the New Zealand
avant-garde artist Len Lye. The artist’s paintings
express an understanding of absolute beauty,
allowing the audience to open a new world of
expressive possibilities. The canvases turn into
a field of endless interpretations.

Дэниэль Ли Ви Сенг − первый и единственный
живописец из Малайзии, которого включил

Академии изящных искусств. В текущем году
мастер был награжден серебряной медалью
выставки Токийского Метрополитен музея; а
также вошел в short list списка самых влиятельных

Беверли Хиллз, Лос-Анджелес.
Для творческого самовыражения Дэниэль
Ли Ви Сенг выбрал методы абстрактного
портретирования и невинного граффити, как
способов ведения диалога на понятном зрителю
визуальном языке. Нефигуративный подход
позволяет художнику выстраивать доверительную
беседу с человеком любых культурных нравов.
Можно предположить, что истоки художественной
традиции Ли Ви Сенга лежат в переосмыслении
фотограмм новозеландского авангардиста Лен
Лая. Картины мастера выражают понимание
абсолютной красоты и позволяют открывать новый
мир выразительных возможностей. Полотна
превращаются в поле бесконечных интерпретаций.
